LG to launch 20 Android devices in 2010
LG is the third mobile phone producer in the world, but regarding smartphones and Android phones, they are still far behind other producers, such as HTC or Motorola. Until today LG announced only five Android devices: LGW620, Optimus GT540, Ally for Verizon, Optimus Q LU2300 and LG SU2300. For a company that just started producing smartphone this seems to be a good amount of phones. Well, LG doesn't want to stop here. They've declared they will release 15 more smartphones until the end of this year!
Probably because they don't have such a big smartphones portfolio, LG's profit sales dropped from 6.7% last year, to 0.9% this year. Launching 20 devices until the end of this year can be considered as an aggresive policy, and in my opinion when you produce and release 15 more smartphones in 6 months, they can't be high-quality enough to challenge HTC, Samsung or Motorola.
Considering the fact that in the beginning of 2009 LG declared they want to make Windows Mobile their default operating system, we can see now how much their policy changed since that big drop of sales and the big growth of Android.
