Open the door with your smartphone in hotels

Open the door with the iPhoneIt's been years since the hotel owners tried to come with something new when it's about opening the door and other functions in their hotel. Marriott tried lots of different stuff (as iris scanners or biometric identifiers) four years ago, and this month InterContinental Hotel Group announced that they will trial OpenWays application in Holiday Inn Express Houston. This will bring the chance to open the room door with your iPhone, and will get another rock out of your shoulder: the key.

Soon there will probably be support for other platforms too, but for now it will only be iPhone which will get the trial. Anyway, this may be dangerous, as the sistem can be hacked, and it will not be fun when you will not have battery anymore and will have to stay in front of your door until someone comes to open the door - the normal way.

If you reserve a room at Holiday Inn, then you will be able to complete an online form to be able to test this new feature. The trial will last between 60 and 90 days, maybe longer. The application will play a signal to let the user know they now have access to the room. That's cool, in my opinion, because I was always good at missing things and not being able to find them after this. Though, I never lost my cell phone, so now I am sure I can get into my room right away.
