Samsung Galaxy S to get a Value pack update (VPU) instead of ICS Update during Q1, 2012

28 December, 2011 Samsung

Galaxy S I9000

Bad News... then Good NEWS ... then Bad News Again, It seems that Samsung will stand by its original decision for the Galaxy S after all. However, there will be a slight change as Samsung will be providing a Value Pack Update (VPU) to Galaxy S I9000 users instead of the Android ICS 4.0 update.

Although the phone will stay at Android Gingerbread 2.3, the Value Pack Update (VPU) will bring the experience as close as Ice Cream Sandwich and in the same time will keep the device running TouchWiz very smoothly and bring an experience as close as Ice Cream Sandwhich. The VPU will start Rolling-out during the Q1,2012

The Value Pack Update (VPU) will Include:

  • Improved Web Browser Experience
  • Improved Multi-tasking
  • Smoother User Interface (UI) look close to the ICS
  • New Widgets to increase productivity
  • Performance Enhancements & Bug Fixes

Samsung earlier this month adopted a similar strategy for its Wave 525 and Wave 533 devices. Instead of offering bada 2.0 to both the devices, Samsung promised to provide a Value Pack upgrade which tries to offer the "same bada 2.0 user experience and service as much as possible despite the hardware limitations."
