Samsung's Bada OS might already be totally put to shelf this year. With the astounding successes of both the Android and the IOS, Bada could simply not compete because it was really made for entry-level un-competitive smartphones and the only ones that keep it "alive" are those who bought devices that still run on Bada. Once those people changed devices, there won't other options but to choose either Android or IOS. It was also created to compete against Nokia's Symbian, which is also probably already dead by now.
Currently, Android dominates the low-end market for smartphones and in the coming years, it will be very difficult for new OS entrants to capture the market and upstage either of the two leaders in this industry.
According to Samsung officials, Bada will be merged with Tizen but a Bada handset will not be upgraded to Tizen as this won't be possible. The only option is really to buy a new smartphone and change to a more modern operating system.

According to a recent report regarding app market purchases, Android is set to become the most popular app platform in the world within the next few months. Driven by new devices from Samsung, Google's app store, called Play, has surged ahead, despite a continued lack of top-end applications and consumers who still spend lower amounts. There are now 900million Android devices in the market compared to 600 million Apple products.
Although Apple recently celebrated 50 billion app downloads, users of Google's Android platform are currently downloading 500 million more apps per month.
Apple says that more than 850,000 titles are available at its App Store, while Google recently said that 48 billion apps in total had been downloaded from Play. Approximately 2billion iOS apps are downloaded each months, compared with 2.5billion from Play.
Continuing at current rates, Google is expected to be in the lead by October. Great news for Android lovers :)

Google on Wednesday announced that its Google Play app store has officially hit the 25 billion app download mark. A Play store is now home to 675,000 apps and games for Android devices.
To celebrate, Google is offering special app reduced prices for the next 10 days. The Web giant is going to be selling apps from top developers like Gameloft, Ea, Rovio, runtastic, Full Fat and more for just 25 cents. Android users may also be able to get promotions on collections like "25 movies you need to own," "25 banned books," "25 albums that changed the planet," and "25 best selling magazines."
Google isn't first app store to achieve that target. Apple's iOS App Store crossed 25 billion app downloads back in March. Apple awarded Chunli Fu of Qingdao, a city in eastern China, a $10,000 prize to be the 25 billionth app customer. Fu had downloaded a free of charge version of Disney's physics-based puzzle game Where's My Water?
At Apple's Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) in June, CEO Tim Cook said the company's App Store now boasts 650,000 available apps, which users have downloaded 30 billion apps.

If you are one of those who are using Avast!, chances are that you have already experienced Gmail, PayPal and Google Currents getting the red flag from this mobile security application. Authorities from Avast! want the people to hold their horses; it's just a tech glitch and that they are already looking to fix the problem. It will soon update its list of virus to remove the false detection problem.
In fact, you could have already received the update, since some have already reported at the forum that theirs already got updated. Check your phone for updates and if you haven't gotten hold of the automatic update, you can still do it manually. You can also run an application scan, in case the update does not take effect as soon as you have installed it.
An update is being rolled out to fix the problem. Avast! Support forum moderator Filip Havlicek writes:
it seems that this false positive detection somehow got through our systems to everyone. I'm sorry for that. Don't worry though, there should be a virus definitions update soon that will remove this detection. I'm going to reroute all topics to this one and lock them so everyone knows what's happening. I'll post here when the update is out so everyone can do a manual update of their definitions to fix this (or you can, of course, wait for the automatic update to happen, but manual will most probably be faster in this case).

Great news Google Drive users, Google Drive for Androud App is getting several improvements to make creating and accessing your stuff on-the-go even easier, specifically card UI and refined scanner function.
To help you find the content you care about, Drive files will now be displayed in a clean, simple card-style. You can swipe between files to see large previews that let you quickly review and discover the information you're looking for. And if you want to keep some Drive files on your Android device, you'll now be able to "download a copy" from the actions menu inside settings.

- New quick preview lets you view photos and other files from within the app
- Scan documents, receipts and letters for safe keeping in Drive; then search by contents once uploaded

According flurry.com, there are 10 percent more active Android devices in use around the world than iOS devices, and it looks like this trend is likely to continue. At the recent All Things D conference Apple's CEO Tim Cook spoke on stage with Walt Mossberg, he mentioned Android users spend 20 percent less time using apps on their devices compared to iOS users.
So what are the reasons for this? One reason could be that Android phones are becoming so prevalent that many users are switching from feature phones to Android smartphones but actually they don't want/need/know about the smartphone features and so spend less time in apps but more time using the phone as just a simple phone.
In this report from flurry.com, arguing that there is more than one race for mobile market share occurring simultaneously. They analyzed four years worth of Flurry's data to understand who is ahead in which contests, discuss the apparent strengths and weaknesses of the competitors, and consider the implications for the overall mobile ecosystem.
