Apple will stick with its June launch for a new iPhone this year, with the next-generation handset scheduled to be released in just a few months, according to one Canadian wireless provider.  According to the Regina Leader-Post, SaskTel, a Saskatchewan-based wireless provider, will offer the next-generation iPhone starting July 1. That will be after the company's new handset launches in June, said Robert Watson, president and CEO of SaskTel.

Apple is expected to introduce the new iPhone at is annual Worldwide Developers Conference at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, Calif., as it has done in years past. Late last year, WWDC 2010 was rumored to be held starting June 28, but more recent rumors suggested a launch date of June 22 for the device allegedly dubbed "iPhone HD."

Other rumors have said the new handset will feature a custom A4 processor, 960x640 double-resolution display, and a second front-facing camera for video chat.

RipCode, Inc., the leader in transactional transcoding, announced today its newest product, the TransAct Transcoder V6 can intercept Adobe Flash-based file or live video requests and convert them to a container, video codec, and audio codec accepted by Apple Inc.'s new iPad - all transparently to the end user device and without the need for any pre-transcoding or device-based client.

The iPad is poised to further accelerate and expand the mobile video device market just as the iPhone has over the last several years. However, one of its noted shortcomings has been Apple's lack of support for Flash video playback, given the dominant position of Flash in professionally generated entertainment, sports and news content.

HTML5 has been purported to address this dilemma by introducing Apple device applications that are simply ‘thin clients' communicating back to a web site hosting and subsequently delivering Flash files without a device-based player, but HTML5 is not yet widely adopted. RipCode's Transactional Transcoding platform enables an alternate and immediate solution to this issue, opening up video content to users without requiring the content hoster to move to HTML5 or pre-transcode entire video libraries from Flash to an iPad-accepted container format. By transcoding the content ‘in the cloud', it is essentially analogous to a network-based Flash to MP4 or MPEG-TS video adaption layer.

Opera today announced its popular mobile browser, Opera Mini has been approved for iPhone and iPod touch on the App Store. Opera Mini will be available as a free download within 24 hours, depending on market.

Opera Mini, with more than 50 million users worldwide, enables fast mobile Web browsing by compressing data by up to 90 percent before sending content to the device, resulting in significantly improved page loading. Users of the app will notice an uptake in speed, especially on slower networks such as the 2G Edge network. Surfing the Web with the Opera Mini App on iPhone and iPod touch will also help users save money because of its data compression capabilities. This will hold especially true while the user is incurring roaming charges.

Here's a preview of Opera Mini on the iPhone, including a feature overview and a real world speed test.

The FTC has assembled an internal litigation team to prepare for a possible effort to block the deal, sources familiar with the matter told the newspaper.

The FTC also has sent letters to AdMob's competitors asking them to testify in sworn statements about the potential impact of the acquisition. The regulator also has briefed Congress on its concerns, the Journal reports.

Five FTC commissioners, however, are yet to vote against the deal and Google lawyers continue to meet with the agency's staff to debate in favor of the acquisition, and the two sides could yet come to an agreement to allay FTC's concerns and preserve the deal.

Wall Street analysts on Monday joined the masses in terming Apple Inc's (AAPL.O) iPad launch as "rock-solid", with some pegging sales of the tablet computer at about 5 million units in the first 12 months. Analysts also said the tablet computer's margins would push up Apple's earnings from the onset.

At least three brokerages raised their price target and full-year estimates on the company, two days after Apple's latest device hit stores.  Great news for Apple.

iSuppli - Applied Market Intelligence estimated that the iPad Sales will be 7 million at the end of this year.

The iPad's attractive design, compelling applications and multi-touch capability, key components of Apple Inc.'s past successes, will help to offset the initial omission of Adobe Flash from the device and send demand soaring in 2010 and beyond, according to a preliminary forecast from iSuppli Corp.

Worldwide iPad sales are expected to amount to 7.1 million units in 2010. Sales will double to 14.4 million in 2011 and nearly triple to 20.1 million in 2012.

Sales in 2010 will be driven by early adopters and others attracted to the iPad's unique touch-screen-based user interface. In 2011 and 2012, iPad sales will be driven up by a range of factors, including a flood of new applications, improved functionality and declining prices.

iSuppli regards its iPad sales forecast as conservative. Factors that could boost sales beyond iSuppli's preliminary expectations include swift feature enhancements and the early addition of Flash support.
