Would you buy a Nuvifone it\'s $300 after a $100 rebate? That\'s with a 2 years contract!!!

I wouldn\'t.  Some rumors on the interwebs are suggesting the nuviphone G60 will go for $300 after a two year contract and a $100 mail-in-rebate.

That is quite pricey - and straight up it is even worse. Without a contract it will cost $550 - almost worth 2 low end netbooks :) even though we realize that is not a fair comparison.

Especially when nuviphone already came out in Asia couple of months ago and we\'ve been waiting for the North America launch for a looong time.

Sucks for you if you live in the US, good news is it might come to the US in another few month, but by that time, there will be way too many handsets to choose from, I think Garmin should release in the US as soon as possible as it's still the biggest market for new cell phones.

My impression from the hands-on is that Garmin has made what they know to do best-a GPS-and they combined it with a 3G smartphone is a smooth way. The result is a nicely balanced unit that has the advantage of having everything you expect in a GPS and all the features you expect in a modern smartphone, all under an easy to use interface.

We will give you a more extensive verdict once we get a final unit, which is supposed to arrive in the first half of 2009.

Asustek Computer Inc. will begin to co-promote the Garmin Nuvifone M20 navigation smartphone as soon as Asustek debuts the feature-laden mobile phone tomorrow in Taipei.

Weighing only 99 grams, the phone offers a 2.8-inch accelerometer-driven touchscreen, allowing users to operate all functions including digital camera and global position system (GPS) on the screen. This phone runs on the Windows Mobile OS, contrast to Garmin Nuvifone G60 running on Linux OS.

Asustek and GPS-device maker Garmin announced in February they had entered into alliance on navigation smartphone business, with computer maker Asustek tapping the market in Asia and eastern Europe while Garmin pitching the handsets at consumers in the United States and eastern Europe.

Chunghwa executives said the company would put aside more budget for promoting smartphones including Nuvifone M20 this quarter as part of its goal to sell 210,000 systems. Added budget will go to subsidize consumers buying the phones.
