As everyone knows (or does not know) this is a subject I am following very close. The devs at XDA are working getting this up and running. A lot has been accomplished in the last couple of weeks but there is still a lot that needs to be done. You will probably see a massive amount of posts and videos on the subject. They also got ubuntu running on the HD2. The linux platform offers a lot of OS that now can be ported to the HD2.
There is still a lot of work to be done. And no set release date for a full working android build
I personally like the idea of dual boot as this will run from the SD card and will not interfere with Windows nor will it void your warranty. The best of both worlds.

Big thanks to IntuitiveNipple at HTC Desire Forum who spent a lot of time working on this step-by step guide on how to replace your screen on a HTC Desire.
Before you go ahead with this replacement, best thing to do is to inspect the AMOLED visually for any signs of defects, probably stripping the device down and powering it up with the front chassis and digitiser detached from the rest of the components so you can check the AMOLED and still have the digitiser connected.
Great job IntuitiveNipple
HTC Desire is a smartphone developed by the HTC Corporation, that was announced on 16 February 2010 and released in Europe and Australia in the second quarter of the same year. It is powered by a 1 GHz Snapdragon processor and runs the Android operating system, version 2.1. It includes an active-matrix OLED (AMOLED) screen and a 5-megapixel camera. Internally it bears a strong resemblance to the Nexus One, but differs in some features. It was announced the Desire would get the Android 2.2 (Froyo) update in the first weeks of July 2010.

I'm sure a lot of people have heard this but if yo just google "sprint android 2.2" you'll see a whole slew of mobile media sites with the same announcement; that sprint has said that the EVO wil be getting 2.2 in the "near future" not a lot of other details were mentioned but hopefully a timeline will be coming soon...
As work on finalizing the software is under way, Sprint expects to launch Android 2.2 in the near future.
Sorry for any confusion created when we initially made this announcement. HTC EVO 4G will receive the 2.2 update, Samsung Moment and HTC Hero will not. Future devices launching with 2.1 also will be updated to 2.2
With the Android 2.2 upgrade, customers can expect improvements to include the following benefits: updates to user interface, improved EAS Support, improved browser performance, including Flash 10x Support, voice dialing over Bluetooth and application storage on external memory.

Jwalton314 at HTC Evo 4G Forum discovered that the HTC Touch Pro2's battery fits perferctly into the HTC Evo 4G. They are the exact same battery after he looked up the battery specs.
Here are some tips to save your battery life:
With the HTC EVO 4G's large display and endless list of features, many have been worried about the battery life. While EVO users can expect about 6-8 hours of battery life with the default settings and average usage, that is not necessarily a guarantee - some users may experience longer battery life if they aren't using the phone frequently throughout the day, and heavy users may not get anywhere near 6 hours. We have done extensive testing with the EVO and have found that there are a number of things you can do to make sure you are getting the most life out of your battery as possible.
- 1. Screen Brightness
- 2. Turning off wireless services
- 3. Lower Screen Timeout Setting
- 4. Disable "Always-on Mobile Data"
- 5. Monitor "Running Services"
- 6. Turn off Background data & Auto-sync
- 7. Don't use a Live Wallpaper
- 8. Turn off features that use vibration
- 9. Manually Turn Off Your Screen
- 10. Turn Off Location Services
Cheers

We heard over at HTC Hero Forum that it seems the HTC Hero recent Over-The-Update fixed few issues, and it also blocked rooting, although we don't think it will block rooting for very long. Sprint may very well be doing this with good intentions; this process used for rooting is, technically, a security exploit, Sprint might as well doing a good thing for rooted folks.
Few things about this broad update.
- -It updates HTC Sense to fix security issues brought up shortly before the EVO launch.
- -From what I've read it looks like it might just be a patch to fix the root exploit.
- - Sprint desired a patch since 2.27.651.5 had been rooted
- - HTC Evo (and Hero) suffered from a problem with SD card usage by apps

If you are looking for an honest review on the HTC Evo 4G, compare to an iPhone, we have got one for you. No bias, but it could be just be one person's opinion.Let me give it a shot with a short review. I came from an unlocked iphone 2G on T-mo.
This review to not meant to offend anyone. It's purely my opinion and no I don't consider myself a fanboy. Again, this is my honest and unbiased opinion.
I got the phone around noon time EST today from Sam's. I never really buy anything on release date but since my iphone 2G is on the fritz. I decided to get the EVO to replace it as soon as it came out.
Kenny's short review
Pro'
- Size - It's HUGE!!!
- Screen - Bright and Vibrant
- 3G/4G - I came from EDGE.
- Android OS - Love the integration with facebook, exchange, gmail, chat, google voice and etc.
- Unlock "Connect-the-dot" feature - Way cool!
- Visual VM
- GPS/Google map/navigation - Fast and accurate. This thing beats most dedicated navi out there. Also love the street view. I wish it had 3D buildings Smiley
- Google goggle - very nice.
- Replaceable Battery - This is really awesome (more later)
- hdmi - bought a cable for it already.
And here it comes..
Con'
- Size - It's HUGE!!!
- Battery Life - Two words - it sucked! Granted I was playing none stop w/ bt and 4G off. The battery died in 2 hours. This phone should come with a spare battery in the box.
- Camera - Granted it's a 8MP. The camera takes the same kind of grainy pictures as my 2G.. just in higher resolution. This will not replace your digicam.
- Visual Bookmarks - HTC's Widget.. I guess it does not work if you use dolphin? Too bad b/c it seems to be pretty cool. I also can't get the thumbnail to load. ??
And this might be the deal breaker...
UI (user interface) - This really bugs me. How can a 2 year old iphone 2G has smoother scrolling than this uber phone? How is this possible? My 2G might only be on Edge but everything seemed so polished. The rubberbanding is done much better on the iphone as well. So does the scroll - The scroll speed on the android browser felt very artificial while my 2G has almost an organic feel to it.
Another issue I am having is the touchscreen. While I never had problem launching programs accidentally on the iphone. I am constantly launching them on the android while trying to scroll. I also like the feel of the glass on the iphone over the EVO. I know they are both glass. iphone's glass felt a little more slippery.
Basically I only had one expectation from this phone - It has to be at least as smooth and polished as the UI on the iphone. Unfortunately this phone for me did not meet that expectation. It's an awesome phone with some kick ass spec's. But it all boils down to the interface between you and the device. And I hate to say it, my iphone is superior.
This turned out to be a pretty long review. This is my 2 cents and at this point I don't know if I want to keep the phone or not. I will keep playing around with it... Can't do it for too long b/c the battery will die.
