platin465 at ppcgeeks.com got a business mailer today "Sprint Small Business Catalog" with all the phones and plans, offers, etc.
Only interesting thing I found was a table about smart phones noting that the TP2 is "(upgradeable software available in March)" under the Windows Mobile 6.5 row.
The Sprint Touch Pro 2 was one of the first to be released in USA, but has been the slowest to see upgrades, with both Verizon and AT&T seeing new software well before them, but good news is coming...

Alright, it's confirmed, sprint will be releasing the updates of Android OS 2.1 to both HTC hero and the Samsung Moment. Not sure why they just can't give out the updates when the Motorola Droid and Nexus one are getting them. But to each of their own.
Today Sprint indicated via its official Twitter page that it is currently working with HTC and Samsung to bring Android 2.1 to the Hero and Moment, respectively. It doesn't expect those updates to become available until early in the second quarter of 2010

Sprint Nextel Corp., the nation's third-largest wireless carrier, on Thursday reported a wider third-quarter loss and a larger exodus of customers despite an improved slate of phones and cheaper rates.
Sprint, which hasn't reported a quarterly net gain in subscribers in more than two years, continues trying to regain ground in a highly competitive market. Besides investing heavily in improving its customer service efforts, the company has beefed up its portfolio of high-tech smartphones, including Palm Inc.'s Pre, in a bid to better compete with the likes of Apple Inc.'s iPhone, now sold by AT&T Inc.

We thought the HTC Hero wasn't coming to the US, at least it wasn't one of the phones that was announcement for the US, but now it seems that the sprint is getting the HTC Hero.
Right now there is no information regarding Sprint's exclusive agreement and how this will affect the chances of an unlocked version in the US. Given what has happened with the Pre it seems the Hero will be exclusively on the Sprint network for a good 6 months.
Sprint is headed in the right direction after snagging the Palm Pre and now with the HTC Hero. A lot of Sprint's problem is the lack of handset selection. Their lineup has really lacked that wow factor recently.
We think it will follow the same $200 price range that similar phones are offered at. It's about time us longtime Sprint customers get to see what the Android platform is all about.
There's no releaes date as of now. So cross your fingers.

print Nextel Corporation (NYSE:S) and Virgin Mobile USA, Inc., (NYSE:VM) announced today that their boards of directors have approved a definitive agreement for Sprint to acquire Virgin Mobile USA for a total equity value of approximately $483 million, which includes the value of Sprint's current 13.1% fully diluted ownership interest in Virgin Mobile USA.
In addition, at closing Sprint will retire all of Virgin Mobile USA's outstanding debt, which is $248 million net of cash and cash equivalents as of March 31, 2009, but is expected to be no more than $205 million net of cash and cash equivalents on Sept. 30, 2009.
This acquisition will strengthen Sprint's position in the growing prepaid segment by bringing together under one umbrella the iconic Virgin Mobile brand with Sprint's successful Boost Mobile business. These complementary prepaid brands, each with a distinctive offer, style and appeal to different customer demographics, will continue to serve existing and prospective customers following the completion of the transaction.
