Tablets survey

Tablets are slowly finding their way to more and more U.S. households, which inevitably alters the every day habits of the modern consumer. That is one thing that we can conclude after checking out this neat infographic, based on a recent survey conducted by Yahoo! A total of 2000 U.S. respondents aged 18 to 64 participated, and the result are quite intriguing, to say the least.

It turns out that 25 percent of women would much rather give up sex for a year to not using their tablet. Here is the Full Survey (Click on the Photo for full size)

Galaxy Tab 2 10.1

The Galaxy Tab 2 (10.1) was originally reveald on the MWC 2012 earlier this year with a Dual-core processoron its specs, Samsung is rumored to swap this originally planned dual-core processor in the tab with a Quad-core endeavor, so this will inevitably mean some retooling and a bit more testing, hence the launch delay.

Quad-core is good for marketing purposes and as far as production costs go it is not much different than dual-core, especially if Samsung uses its own Exynos processors, but even if it has some Tegras lying around, the difference in assembly price should be insignificant. The 10-incher is codenamed Espresso and apparently scheduled for June launch.

Excite 13

The Toshiba Excite 13 is powered by a 1.5GHz Tegra 3 chip, so performance should not be an issue. Its touchscreen display has a resolution of 1600 by 900 pixels, which may sound like much, but the actual pixel density is quite average due to the screen physical size. There is a 5-megapixel camera on the device back and a 2-megapixel one up front for video chats. A stand has been thrown in the set, and since the whole thing weighs 2.2 pounds, it will likely be used quite often. Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich comes pre-loaded. The Toshiba Excite 10 will hit the shelves in early May and will retail for $449.

Excite 7.7

Galaxy Note 10.1

Samsung GALAXY Note 10.1 tablet, back in February during the MWC 2012, the tablet specs was featured a dual-core 1.4GHz Exynos processor along with the S Pen.

According to Korea daily IPD newspaper, the tablet release has been pushed back to June, but for a good cause. The dual-core processor is being replaced with a Quad-core Samsung-Made Exynos 5 processor, most likely the 1.5GHz Exynos 4412 chipset. This changes the Samsung GALAXY Note 10.1 from being like a Samsung GALAXY Tab 10.1 with an S Pen, This tablet performance will probably be right off the charts.

Galaxy Note 10.1

The Korean newspaper said that Samsung decided to go with the quad-core Exynos processor as a way to make the tablet more competitive to the new Apple iPad. The A5X processor in the latter tablet has outperformed even the Tegra 3 when it comes to graphics so Samsung is hoping that by bringing in a higher-spec chipset, it will be in better shape to compete with Apple third-gen tablet.

The New Kindle fire

The Upcoming Amazon Kindle fire 2nd-generation is now just months away from production and could launch in Q2 of this year. Besides sporting a larger than expected 10-inch display instead of an 8.9-inch screen, this tablet is expected to have NVIDIA quad-core Tegra 3 under the hood. As you know by now, the Amazon Kindle Fire launched last November in time for the holiday season and quickly had Amazon as the number 2 position among global tablet vendors.

Kindle fire

Amazon has yet to announce this tablet, but on Thursday, Amazon had placed an order for chassis from the Catcher Technologies plant in Taizhou, China. We take this with the usual grain of salt, including the estimate that Catcher gross margin will be 40% on the order. If true, this could be the signal to expect a new tablet to start undergoing production within the next few months.

Samsung Ad

Samsung was working on a 11.6-inch tablet. The Samsung GALAXY Tab 11.6 was supposed to launch last month, according to the story, and would be Samsung first model to be shipped with Android 4.0.3 already installed. Now here is where things get interesting. On Samsung web site is an advertisement for the Samsung Exynos 5 processor and it shows someone using an unnamed Samsung tablet. Could this be the Samsung GALAXY Tab 11.6?

Notice the Speaker below!

On first inspection, it looks like the Samsung GALAXY Tab 2 10.1, except for the speaker grill (look at the photo above) and the coloring which are both different than what appears on a rendering of the sequel to the Korean manufacturer 10.1 inch model. And the biggest clue of all is that the ad is for the very same 2GHz Samsung Exynos 5250 that is supposed to be under the hood of the GALAXY Tab 11.6.

Other specs include the 11.6-inch display with a resolution of 2560 x 1600 to match the new iPad retina display ppi. We still have no confirmation when samsung will show us this tablet. but as more reports coimng in about a New samsung tablet, we can expect this very soon.
