An early review in the Journal confirms what we long suspected-that HTC's much-anticipated Touch Diamond will arrive in Sprint's lineup "sometime this month." The Journal's verdict on the Diamond, however, is less than sparkling.
WSJ reviewer Katherine Boehret complains that the Diamond's smallish touch screen 'felt small and cramped" when it comes to the on-screen QWERTY keyboard, and that the phone's touch UI lacks the iPhone's multitouch features (which, for example, let you "pinch" pictures and Web pages to zoom in and out).
Another complaint (and this was the one I was worried about): That the Diamond's super-slick TouchFLO 3D interface can't make up for the tricky, tough-to-use Windows Mobile interface, which rears its ugly head all too often.
That's too bad, because in my brief hands-on experience with the Diamond, I was pretty blown away by its razor-sharp, VGA-quality display. I also got a kick out of HTC's TouchFLO interface, which includes a slick messaging preview window, plus a weather widget complete with animated rain and windshield wipers.
Unfortunately, as Boehret notes in her review, the Diamond runs primarily on the Pro version of Windows Mobile, which-full-featured though it may be-is devilishly difficult to use, especially if you're on the go. Just try tapping a tiny menu option with the stylus while you're riding the bus and you'll see what I mean.
That said, I'm still looking forward to some quality time with the Diamond, which (interestingly enough) has yet to be formally announced by Sprint-hence, no word on a specific release date or pricing.
Also, don't forget the Touch Pro, which is essentially the Diamond plus a slide-out QWERTY keypad-a feature that might make the quirks of Windows Mobile a bit more palatable.

Google's latest Android prototype is miles improved over the versions we last saw. Back at CES the GUI was clunky and the whole thing looked relatively primative; Google themselves asked us to keep an open mind and instead concentrate on the OS' potential. Now, they've brought out a device that you could, frankly, mistake for production hardware.
As our exclusive demo videos show, the Android team have been putting in some long hours bringing the user interface up to the standard people expect. The iPhone sets the bar high, and leftfield rivals like Samsung's TouchWiz GUI really pile on the pressure. What they've given us is, at first glance, a blend of the successful parts of each of those, together with a dose of Google's own minimalist aesthetic. Hopefully you'll agree with us, once you've looked through the photos and watched the video, that the design is a winner.

An Overview of the HTC Touch Pro2
The Touch Pro2 will be a "slider", a smartphone with a landscape-oriented sliding QWERTY keyboard. It will also have a 3.6 inch, WVGA (800 by 480 pixel) touchscreen.
It mark the return of the slide-and-tilt screen that was a hallmark of an earlier smartphone from HTC, the AT&T Tilt.
The Touch Pro2 will debut with Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.1, but make the jump to Windows Mobile 6.5 when this new version is available.
This device will be built around a 528 MHz processor from Qualcomm, 288 MB of RAM, and a microSD card slot. It will also have a 3.2 megapixel auto-focus camera and a 1500 mAh battery.
It will be 4.6 inches by 2.3 inches by 0.7 inches , and weigh 6.17 ounces with battery.
Even though HTC was willing to unveil these models last week, some details are still missing. The company has not yet revealed anything about their wireless capabilities, for example. Still, GSM and CDMA versions are a safe assumption, with Wi-Fi and wireless broadband.

HTC's latest candybar QWERTY handset, the Snap has a compact 2.4-inch non-touchscreen display, dualband UMTS/HSPA and WiFi b/g, and is HTC's attempt to take on RIM's popular BlackBerry line.
On the positive side, the keyboard is particularly good, and Inner Circle "just works" - though that could be, they say, because it's a relatively simplistic feature, pulling out emails from preset correspondents. The camera is functional, though nothing more, and Windows Mobile 6.1 is its usual dreary self.
In the end, though, Smartphone Daily reckon the Snap is unlikely to have the same "crossover appeal" as rival handsets like the BlackBerry Curve or Nokia E71. That's perhaps not unusual for a Windows Mobile device, though we bet Microsoft (and HTC, for that matter) would prefer otherwise. The HTC Snap will go on sale this summer in Europe, with its S522 counterpart reaching the US at the same time.

An incredible device should get a sexy name, the HTC Supersonic is not only sexy, powerful, it will be the first device that powered by Sprint's WiMAX capable 4G network, perhaps being the slickest Android handset to date. According to reports, the phone will have a 1 GHz Qualcomm QSD 8250 Snapdragon ARM CPU and 512 MB of DRAM, just like the Nexus One.
Unlike the Nexus One, however, the CPU will be underclocked to 768 MHz (watch out for an Apple patent on that one). While that may sound like a bad thing, it should be more than enough speed to run most apps, while helping to providing longer talk time than the Nexus One.
We got the news from brighthand that Sprint will be showcasing this HTC Supersonic device at CTIA in Las Vegas next week. We will keep you posted.

Looks like the HTC Desire will be available to the UK folks on March 29th. A confirmation from T-Mobile's forum where a support forum responded to a user's question, see below.
We can confirm that the HTC Desire is now available to order from our website, with a delivery time of around 7 days, and will be available in stores from Monday 29th March. A technical glitch which had shown the device as out of stock has now been amended, and we apologies for any inconvenience or confusion this has caused.
Thanks to phandroid for this news.

We haven't even seen the HTC Smart 1 yet, but HTC has already leaked info on the HTC smart 2. According to CellPassion, they have received some info regarding to the HTC Smart 2 Device, Smart 2 will be more or less similar to the Smart (pictured here) with the exception that it will feature Wi-Fi and an Office suite with an option to edit documents and spreadsheets.
The Smart2 is expected to be announced in the next couple of months at below Rs 10,000. We have been using the Smart for a couple of months now and were impressed with its overall features and performance. It has the best user interfaces and touchscreen in phones retailing south of Rs 10,000, though we were a bit disappointed with the lack of apps for the device on Airtel's App Central.
With high demand for cheap touchphones, HTC definitely considering more cheaper smartphone like the smart1 and smart2.

If you are one of those folks who are trying to order HTC Droid Incredible but were told the phone is out of stock. At a Barclays Capital Global Communications, Media and Technology conference in New York today, Verizon Wireless CEO Lowell McAdam said that demand for the HTC Droid Incredible has been better than expected, and that the company is having a difficult time keeping the smartphone in stock. The phone made its debut April 29 and within hours it was sold out via the company's Web store. Customers that order the Incredible today can have it by the middle of June. It's June 16 to be specific.

I'm sure a lot of people have heard this but if yo just google "sprint android 2.2" you'll see a whole slew of mobile media sites with the same announcement; that sprint has said that the EVO wil be getting 2.2 in the "near future" not a lot of other details were mentioned but hopefully a timeline will be coming soon...
As work on finalizing the software is under way, Sprint expects to launch Android 2.2 in the near future.
Sorry for any confusion created when we initially made this announcement. HTC EVO 4G will receive the 2.2 update, Samsung Moment and HTC Hero will not. Future devices launching with 2.1 also will be updated to 2.2
With the Android 2.2 upgrade, customers can expect improvements to include the following benefits: updates to user interface, improved EAS Support, improved browser performance, including Flash 10x Support, voice dialing over Bluetooth and application storage on external memory.

Big thanks to IntuitiveNipple at HTC Desire Forum who spent a lot of time working on this step-by step guide on how to replace your screen on a HTC Desire.
Before you go ahead with this replacement, best thing to do is to inspect the AMOLED visually for any signs of defects, probably stripping the device down and powering it up with the front chassis and digitiser detached from the rest of the components so you can check the AMOLED and still have the digitiser connected.
Great job IntuitiveNipple
HTC Desire is a smartphone developed by the HTC Corporation, that was announced on 16 February 2010 and released in Europe and Australia in the second quarter of the same year. It is powered by a 1 GHz Snapdragon processor and runs the Android operating system, version 2.1. It includes an active-matrix OLED (AMOLED) screen and a 5-megapixel camera. Internally it bears a strong resemblance to the Nexus One, but differs in some features. It was announced the Desire would get the Android 2.2 (Froyo) update in the first weeks of July 2010.

As everyone knows (or does not know) this is a subject I am following very close. The devs at XDA are working getting this up and running. A lot has been accomplished in the last couple of weeks but there is still a lot that needs to be done. You will probably see a massive amount of posts and videos on the subject. They also got ubuntu running on the HD2. The linux platform offers a lot of OS that now can be ported to the HD2.
There is still a lot of work to be done. And no set release date for a full working android build
I personally like the idea of dual boot as this will run from the SD card and will not interfere with Windows nor will it void your warranty. The best of both worlds.

Please note that, this is not official release from HTC, The GSM Version, not Sprint CDMA version HTC Hero. it's an Android Open Source Project by cyanogenmod. CyanogenMod 6 is a free, community built distribution of Android 2.2 which greatly extends the capabilities of your phone.
This is an alpha preview and unsupported version. You have to know what you are doing when using this. If you don't, don't use it. If you do, use it at your own risk. You've been warned!
INSTRUCTIONS:
- - First time flashing CM to your Hero (or coming from another ROM)?
- 1. Unlock your device and install Amon_RA's recovery image
- 2. Do a Nandroid backup!
- 3. Update your radio if necessary
- 4. WIPE
- 5. Install the ROM
- 5. Optionally install the Google Addon

To say that XDA-Developer is good would be an understatement. The HTC Droid Unbelievable Android 2.three update has arrived unofficially. The update arrives because of the fellows over at XDA Developers again, who managed to get a build of Android 2.3 Gingerbread engaged on the smartphone.
For the reason that preliminary launch of Android 2.3 for the Incredible on December 8, the team has managed to create three extra variations with each of them ironing out the bugs to make it run that little bit better.
Model 4 has now been launched and with that it fixes the 8 Megapixel digital camera, fixes Facebook Sync as well as a few other excellent parts. Solely problems that the device has now could be the GPS and the Camcorder which we assume are being worked on now and will probably be fastened in the near future.

If you have been waiting for the HTC status to come to the Market, here it is, HTC Status now available on AT&T. The HTC Status runs on Android Gingerbread under HTC Sense. It also features full Facebook integration, allowing you to post photos, update your status, chat with friends and more with the dedicated Facebook Share Button.
The HTC Status is a beautiful phone with good Facebook integration and an excellent keyboard, at the right price. But I can't recommend it with much enthusiasm because of how badly many apps (including Facebook!) work with the horizontal screen. Other Android phones don't have the hardware Facebook button, but they still integrate Facebook into their contact books and are more compatible with third-party apps: The $30 LG Phoenix is one affordable example.
If you're looking for a keyboard plus social networking, all of AT&T's offerings have flaws. But I'd take a serious look at the BlackBerry Torch ($49.99, 4 stars), which integrates Facebook very well and has a good keyboard and terrific battery life.

Rumored at Androidcommunity.com that the HTC Evo 4G by Sprint wireless will be on pre-sale in Bestbuy starting May. I was told at CTIA by the Sprint Employees that the phone will be available summer time, no exact date yet.
I won't put my bet on the May date release, I will believe it when i see the flyers, but the May date is not far away at all.

We don't know how much truth is in this, Supersonical over at Android Forums website mentioned that he has a contact at Intel had received a few HTC evo 4G units for testing purposes, surprisingly all with Android 2.2 pre-installed.
As you may already know, when Sprint officially announced the HTC Evo 4G early this month (June 4th), it specificially said that the HTC Evo 4G will be pre-loaded with Android 2.1. Regardless, here's the two possible reasons Sprint has not yet mentioning anything regarding to Android 2.1.
1. Google is yet to officially announce the rollout of Android 2.2 so it would be premature for Sprint to do so.
2. The Google Nexus One is always the first handset to get the latest Android updates. Since we are expecting this to go down at the Google I/O event which is today, Sprint will need to hold back on talking about Android 2.2 until after the festivities are over.
If you want to know more, head over to the HTC Evo 4G forum where, this topic is a hot discussion.

This is great news! Today RadioShack announced that it will open 1,600 of its retail shops at 6AM on June 4 to accommodate those who pre-ordered the HTC EVO 4G Android/WiMax phone.
If that's not enough, the Radio Shack will be giving customers that pre-ordered a 15 percent discount on EVO accessories purchased on launch day. Some Radio Shack locations will have an Evo 4G Experience Center where staffers will show the 4G Android smartphone's capabilities to customers or potential buyers during their visit.
Way to go Radio Shack!

Someone who works at Sprint told Seattle Times that the Sprint HTC Evo 4G has been officially sold out after the morning rush but they're hoping to get more soon. Westlake ran out during lunch and the store a few blocks away on Union ran out at around 11 a.m. They've asked Sprint for an official update.
Meanwhile, there were still a few cookies left from this morning's launch event at the Westlake store, where I briefly talked to one customer who said he'd buy an Evo if the store had any more in stock.
One more thing, Qik, the video chat application provider, clarified that the basic video chat features will be free. Premium features, including video archiving and the ability to upload videos to the service, will cost $4.99 a month starting July 15.

I guess Verizon isn't the only one dealing with Phone shortage, we were told by executive at Verizon a while ago that the shortage was due to the lack of lcd parts from Samsung.
Well, Sprint is already deal with shortage of it's best device so far, the HTC Evo 4G, the CEO of Sprint has come out and said that the HTC Evo shortage are making a dent on Sprint's 4G strategy.
Sprint is still the only U.S. carrier with a 4G network, which offers users faster speeds for data and video. The carrier, the nation's third-largest by subscribers, hopes the network will give it an advantage in attracting customers from rivals. But shortages of its maiden 4G phone are limiting potential sales, and rival carriers are getting closer to launching their own 4G networks.
The outspoken CEO of Sprint Dan Hesse told The Wall Street Journal last week. "We thought we would have more of a head start than we ended up having."
So far, Sprint has sold 300,000 of its Evo 4G phones, according to Macquarie Group. Demand has been strong, but HTC Corp., the Taiwanese company that makes the Evo for Sprint, hasn't been able to keep up.
Verizon and AT&T are also working on a 4G LTE network, and we should be expecting some announcements at thend end of this year.

It seems that as soon as you buy something it's being phased out in a couple of months. Verizon latest deal with phasing out HTC Droid Eris make us think which model could be next? HTC Droid Incredible possibly? I understand that when Droid X comes out nobody is going to buy 'The Incredible' but this constant change does not foster brand loyalty.
It's just like Verizon has phased the Blackberry Tour now to make room for the new Blackberry Bold, as the Blackberry Tour is labelled as "Out of Stock" on it's website.
Consider the IPhone which has been rolled out for a couple of years now and seems to make incremental changes to itself similar to a high end car like BMW, Mercedes, etc. This fosters stability and very high brand loyalty which is very important in the long run. I wish Verizon would finally get the IPhone and rid itself of the constant musical chair as far as phones are concerned.
Thanks Vitaly

Dante Martin, Product Manager at AT&T for Android devices, unboxes the HTC Aria, For more on AT&T and the HTC Aria, also check out the video below.
The HTC Aria looks a lot like Verizon's HTC Droid Incredible, but it's smaller. It's probably the same specs as the HTC HD2 mini, but features Android 2.1, HTC's Sense UI, an optical joystick, HSPA, Wi-Fi, GPS, Google Maps with free navigation, 5MP autofocus camera, and a 2GB memory card preinstalled.
Check out the Press Release from AT&T
AT&T* and HTC Corporation ("HTC") today announced that HTC Aria, a rich and powerful addition to AT&T's Android smartphone portfolio, will be available exclusively at AT&T beginning June 20. Pocket-sized and packing the power of the Android 2.1 platform, a five megapixel camera and a bright 3.2 inch HVGA display, HTC Aria offers AT&T customers Android smartphone functionality in an amazingly easy-to-carry design. The combination of 3G speed, a responsive capacitive touch screen and an optical joystick makes HTC Aria an ideal smartphone for mobile broadband.
HTC Aria is Wi-Fi capable and qualifying customers will receive access to AT&T Wi-Fi, with more than 20,000 hotspots across the U.S. In addition, HTC Aria is compatible with AT&T's High Speed Packet Access (HSPA) 7.2 Mbps technology. This technology provides a considerable boost to 3G speeds when combined with expanded backhaul. The combination of faster wireless networks, smartphones like HTC Aria, and tens of thousands of available innovative mobile apps allows AT&T customers to mobilize virtually everything, from video and music, to social networking, to business applications.
"HTC Aria is the first of several smartphones in our Android portfolio to run the 2.1 platform," said Jeff Bradley, senior vice president, Devices, AT&T Mobility and Consumer Markets. "When you combine the nation's fastest 3G network, and access to the nation's largest Wi-Fi network, HTC Aria will be one of the best Android smartphones available."
HTC Aria features the acclaimed HTC Sense experience, which automatically delivers the most-wanted information by bringing it to the forefront of the mobile experience. Featuring the latest version of HTC Sense, HTC Aria offers even more ways to stay connected, including Friend Stream, which delivers Facebook, Twitter and Flickr updates in a single, consolidated view.
"Its unique combination of compact size and beautiful design instantly separates HTC Aria from the pack of ‘me-too' smartphones," said Jason Mackenzie, vice president of HTC America. "But what really differentiates HTC Aria from other smartphones is the acclaimed HTC Sense experience, which we are pleased to be bringing to AT&T customers. By putting people at the center of everything it does, HTC Aria organizes all of your communications in the most human way possible - by person."
A full selection of the newest and most popular Google services can be accessed with HTC Aria. This includes Google search, Google Maps, Google Navigation, Gmail, YouTube and more. With Android Market, customers can also choose from more than 50,000 applications to further personalize the mobile experience.
Along with being ultra-small at just over 4 inches long and weighing a mere 4.05 ounces, HTC Aria's seamless wrap-around soft-touch back cover eliminates sharp edges, making HTC Aria exceptionally convenient to carry and comfortable to hold as well.
Featuring the best selection of smartphones and OS, AT&T is ranked #1 in customer satisfaction among smartphone owners. AT&T plans to expand its Android portfolio to include other Android smartphones during the second half of 2010.
