T-Mobile USA, Inc. today announced new products and service plans designed to help families stay connected without busting their holiday budgets. Beginning Nov. 3, T-Mobile is planning to offer a variety of new Android smartphones, including the T-Mobile Comet, LG Optimus T with Google and Motorola DEFY with MOTOBLUR, each for less than $100.

"We're heading into this holiday season with our strongest and most affordable lineup ever of Android-powered smartphones," said Cole Brodman, chief marketing officer, T-Mobile USA. "Combine that with low-cost data service plans and even easier ways to give T-Mobile products as gifts, and we believe families will make the move to smartphones -- enriching how they communicate in the new year."

T-Mobile will also launch new low-cost plans - not starting November 3, but in time for the holiday season. The new plans are called "Web - 200MB" ($10 per month) and "Web - Unlimited" ($30 per month). For $14.99 more, customers will also be able to add a Tethering and Wi-Fi Sharing plan to the Web - Unlimited plan.

The HSPA technology used by the T-Mobile Pulse supports Internet connections of up to 7.2 Mbps downstream and 2 Mbps upstream. The phone's 320 x 480 pixel display shows over 16 million colors and quickly switches from horizontal to vertical display format in keeping with the way the phone is held.

Its 3.2-MP autofocus camera takes brilliant photos and videos, and of course the phone can transmit such media files directly via the Internet. With its integrated GPS receiver, the T-Mobile Pulse also functions as a compact navigation device. Headsets and music players can easily be connected via a 3.5 mm TRS connector or Bluetooth.

The phone comes with a black cover, a white cover and a 2 GB microSD memory card.

The so called High-Speed Access Plus (HSPA+) network will be similar to the 4G network from Sprint, it will get closer to 10 Mbits/Sec.  T-Mobile USA plans to launch the first smartphone for its newly upgraded networked in September.

The handset is understood to be the world's first HSPA+ smartphone, and it will be the first phone that is made to handle T-Mobile's upgraded 3G network with peak downlink network speeds of up to 21 Mbit/s.

The upgrade effort is a cornerstone of T-Mobile's growth strategy in the US. The fourth largest US operator has already rolled out the 3G upgrade across 25 markets, covering 75 million people, and plans to cover 185 million people by the end of this year.

Do you anyone who owns a Garminfone?  I don't.  Now I am not really sure how many units T-mobile sold the Garminfone, but i know it's pretty crappy numbers.

With reports going around before this that T-Mobile's Garminfone wasn't enjoying very much success; it's probably another blow to the device as T-Mobile has lowered its asking price for the Garminfone to $129.99.

Some features of the Garminfone:

  • * 3.5″ 320 x 480 capacitive multi-touch screen
  • * 4 GB of internal storage, expandable via microSD card slot
  • * HSDPA 3.6 Mb/s
  • * WiFi 802.11 b/g
  • * Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP
  • * an autofocus 3.15 Megapixel camera
  • * aGPS and Garmin Navigation

Still not too attractive when you can get a Samsung Vibrant for only $199 (Samsung Galaxy S) right
