Are you fed up with iPhone Operating System? Then, as many websites previously reported, Android 2.2 (codenamed Froyo) is now available to use on your iPhone 3G. We've seen an older Android running on iPhone before, but it seems hackers managed to get the new Froyo out for iPhone too and, why shouldn't we say, if using an older version of Android on your iPhone wouldn't tempt you at all, a new version might change your mind.
You will buy an iPhone 4G, probably, and your contract may be over soon. If you are bored and really fed up with the old phone, then you can try Android 2.2 on it. We do not recomment id, anyway, because hackers weren't able to make Wi-Fi and sound work on it, so it pretty much takes everything nice from you. The experience will be worse also because is less probable Android 2.2 will run very good on iPhone, because it's just not made for it.

It's strongly touted as Android will catch up iPhone until the end of 2010, but is it really going to be the case? Android beat iPhone in the first quarter of the year, selling 28% (64.000 shipments per day), while iPhone sold just 21%, but many experts consider this as a fight that will never end. Even if Android has a lot of potential, people also expect iPhone to reach their best condition in the same time. It's still not sure if there is going to be a clear winner in this fight.
On the other side, Android has the confidence of many people from Sillicon Valley, who are confident it is able to jump even higher than their actual standards. They also believe Android has enough potential to get on top and hold to their market share a while. And if you have Sillicon Valley's trust, why shouldn't you believe everything is possible?

Applications are one of the most important part of every smartphone, because when you buy a smartphone, you're not just thinking about calling and sending an SMS now and then, but also about apps. Some of the applications are free, some others are paid, but the prices are not so big. At least for Android. More than half of the apps for Android, Nokia and Palm are about $2, the ones from BlackBerry being $2.99.
Android offers 57% of its applications for free, and that's the most a phone producer offers, while most of them have around 25%. Besides Android, only Palm offers more than 33% free. Android Market is available in 46 countries, but only the users from 13 can download the apps for free, while only 9 countries offer the developers the possibility to distribute them.

The new iPhone, 4G/HD, is not official yet, but we know most of the things about it from different leaks. Now with this new model on the way in, Wal-Mart cutted the price of the previous device, 3GS, to just $97, from $199. Now Wal-Mart is not even selling the 3G iPhone, because it's considered to be "old". The new "old" model will be the 3GS, which will have the great price above.
If you're not very excited with the new iPhone, then you might be tempted to buy the 3GS, which also requests a two-year deal with AT&T. Anyway, you might just want to wait a little bit more too, because the new 4G will come with some great features, and you might just want to buy it. We do not know the price yet, but it can't be so expensive if you involve a two-year contract with AT&T.

There's not anything sure yet, as Apple used us with, but it seems leaks show the resolution of the new iPhone will be 640x960. Another iPhone was found in Czech Republic, and bloggers in the former Soviet country talked about it a lot. Rumors say it is going to be a HVGA 640x960, up from 320x480. That a big difference, isn't it?
Reports are saying that the new iPhone will use the same LCD IPS matrix as the iPads, so it's not going to be an AMOLED in this version. The impact on image quality is big. The former iPhone had 160ppi pixel density, while the 4G will have a double amount, 320ppi. To compare with other models, Nexus One has 252ppi and the Motorola Droid/Milestone has 265.
With such a high resolution screen, it seems the iPhone 4G will need a lot under the hood to run it. The rumors of the 1GHz iPad SoC powering it up seems not just credible or incredible, but also normal if this is the case.
It's been years since the hotel owners tried to come with something new when it's about opening the door and other functions in their hotel. Marriott tried lots of different stuff (as iris scanners or biometric identifiers) four years ago, and this month InterContinental Hotel Group announced that they will trial OpenWays application in Holiday Inn Express Houston. This will bring the chance to open the room door with your iPhone, and will get another rock out of your shoulder: the key.
Soon there will probably be support for other platforms too, but for now it will only be iPhone which will get the trial. Anyway, this may be dangerous, as the sistem can be hacked, and it will not be fun when you will not have battery anymore and will have to stay in front of your door until someone comes to open the door - the normal way.
If you reserve a room at Holiday Inn, then you will be able to complete an online form to be able to test this new feature. The trial will last between 60 and 90 days, maybe longer. The application will play a signal to let the user know they now have access to the room. That's cool, in my opinion, because I was always good at missing things and not being able to find them after this. Though, I never lost my cell phone, so now I am sure I can get into my room right away.
Opera Mini, maybe the best mobile browser out there, just got an incredible 2.6 million users on iPhone in not more than two weeks since it's been released. The release dat was on 13th April and Opera announced this morning that users have been run the new version on iPhone 2.6 million times until 30th April. We do not have statistics about this period right now, but I assume that Opera reached the 3 million milestone until today.
The mobile phone web browser is one of the most used out there, and not just on iPhone. I even use it, but not on iPhone, but on Nokia N95. It's pretty sure the best out there because it offers an arguably good experience. One of the things that I don't like about the new version is, though I like Opera Mini a lot, the fact that on the frontpage there are some links that you can't change. I mean the Opera Webpage, BBC and some other ones.
Working on most of the platforms out there offers Opera a wide-range of users that can run Mini on their devices, and now, with the browsing on the mobile phone becoming a trend, it seems Opera Mini has the whole potential in the world to become an incredible business.
BookLover is a $0.99 iPhone application for the ones who love to read and like to spend their freetime with this. It looks like Delicious Library, another iPhone application. You can organize books there, complete with book covers and even with new synopsis in some cases. You can link BookLover with your Facebook account and post on the wall your notes, and even send them by e-mail.
Anyway, nor us or MobileCrunch can find this application interesting enough, because the built in note of the iPhone will definitely be enough to do what this application can. Anyway, you should try it, as it's not expensive and you may actually like it.

Sources confirmed the new iPhone 4G/HD will have video chatting included, and Engadget confirms it now too. They seem to have someone very close to the filming of the new commercials where a daughter and her mother are video chatting. There's not any official comment on the matter, but people talked a lot about it and I think it's pretty sure the new iPhone will have video chatting.
Confirmations will probably come on 7th June 2010, at the Anual Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco. There's still a question, though: will the video chatting be available over 3G or over Wi-Fi only, but Apple will probably talk about this fact too at the conference.

Nissan Leaf, the first electric car of the Japanese producer will integrate iPhone in it. Nissan released a press comment saying that drivers will be able to control some of the car's features using the iPhone. You will just wait home for your vehicle to get charged and you will be announced on your iPhone when the car is ready to rumble. On the way to the car you will even be able to control the car's temperature. If outside is warm or cold weather, you could adjust the temperature from your iPhone. The moment you will enter the car and close the door you will have the ambient you wish.
Synced with the car, the iPhone will be able to tell you where you can find the nearest charging station. For safety reasons, the car will not be able to be driven or controlled by the iPhone, but it's interesting to find out the application iTunes Store will release as soon as the car is on the market.

Steve Jobs and Apple officialy announced iPhone 4G today and some of the specs we just heard rumors about were confirmed. The new body looks nice in my opinion, a facelift is always good. The new design it's not trying to hide buttons, but to show nice, smooth lines. The phone weight 137 g, being slightly heavier than the former release. The new "Retina" display is 960x460 (twice than the original 480x320) and there is the higher pixel mount of a phone out there. The camera can also record in 720p and the PPI is higher than any other display that we have knowledge of.
The 5MP camera is an improved version of the 3GS's, with larger lenses, backside illumination and LED Flash. Now there is also available iMovie, a powerful mobile video editor. With a simple interface, the application is going to be $5. The video chat is also available right now: FaceTime. It supports both cameras (landscape or portrait) and works with Wi-Fi. The feature was showed by Steve Jobs, when he called John Ive during the WWDC, the only problem being a little lag in the conversation because of the intense Wi-Fi activity around.
The new operating system is not called iPhone OS4, as expected, but it was shorten to iOS4. The good news about books is that your iPad eBooks will also work on the new iPhone, and the bigger resolution now available will also improve the experience. The device is powered up by almost the same processor as the iPad, so think how big this is! It seems there is also going to be an improved 40% battery life because of the A4 processor, but between claims and reality is a long way.
The iPhone 4G will be available on 24th June, black or white, and will cost $199 for the 16GB version and $299 for the 32GB version. There's probably going to be a two-year AT&T contract included. The 3G will be retired, while the 3GS can be purchased for $99. Besides US, France, Germany, Japan and the UK, the rest of the world will get the phone in July.

Even with the new iPhone 4G on its way out, Bell is not leaving iPhone 3G behind. For everyone who wants to have it now, the phone is available at Bell from just $9.99. Sure, we are talking now about refurbished phones, as Bell says: "Refreshed phones are phones returnet in an unused or slightly used condition and that have passes rigorous Quality Assurance testing." The phones are also updated to the current software and are verified to operate in accordance with their specifications. Some of the devices have minor scratches, but those don't have an impact on the proper operation. There's a 90-day warranty from the date of purchase for every device bought.
Well, in my opinion, that's not a bad offer. But wait to hear everything. For having one of this refurbished iPhones, you will have to buy a plan. What kind of plan? A $50 monthly Smartphone Combo Plan which is too much. Why bother paying $50 per month for an old iPhone (for three years), when you could just buy the new one? By the way, the new iPhone will be available at Bell and Telus starting 4th July.
Bell stated this iPhone 3G-offer will continue until the end of the month, but I really can't see it being successful enough. The price of the phone is cool, buy with the risk of repeating myself, the plan is scandalous.

After many other carriers, such as Bell, TELUS, Rogers and Fido, Virgin Mobile is also going to be hit by iPhone 4. There is a "coming soon" status, so we don't know anything about an official date, but the prices will probably not be too different from the other carriers' ones. This means $199 for the 16GB version and $299 for the 32 GB version, with a two-year deal and maybe a mail-in rebate.
SaskTel is the only Canadian carrier that didn't confirmed they will have the iPhone yet. They stated some time ago their new network, live from 1st June, will be HSPA. The good news is that Apple is coming with this new iPhone version and SaskTel are put on that.
The fourth generation of the iPhone, manufactured by Foxconn, runs iOS 3.1.3, is powered up by an unknown Apple A4 processor. We don't know anything about the RAM, even if the phone is just weeks before the official release. The camera is a 5MP rear-facing with video capabilities, geotagging, autofocus and there is also a VGA front-facing camera.

When you want to buy a new (and expensive) mobile phone, as the iPhone 4 seems to be, there are many choices to be made. 16GB or 32GB, black or white and many others. Now we have a chart available helping you to choose the best deal for your iPhone 4 in the United Kingdom. Orange, O2 and Vodafone have been released their full prices and we have them too.
There are really many choices to be made here, you can choose from more than 30 possibilities. On a 24 month contract you can have the 32GB for £269 plus £30 monthly cost and the service cost will be £16.25. For the 16GB version you will have to pay £169 and the service cost will be the same. O2 has lower prices for the 18 month-deal. On the other side, Vodafone is the only carrier in the UK which will give users a full 1GB of 3GB data. It joins Orange in offering tethering options, but the prices are lower. On the bottom you will have all the three charts available.

Windows Live Messenger, one of the most used instant chat in the world is developed by Microsoft, as you probably already know. iPhone App Store it's been online since 2008, that's two years. Now those two combined and developed Windows Live Messenger for the iPhone too. It may have taken two years, but I can easily see this application to become popular. Many other instant messaging services appeared on iPhone (and not just on it) in the last years, such as Meebo, BeeJive, some free, the other paid. Most of them offered support for Windows Live Messenger, but now you won't need them anymore.
Microsoft launched its own application and now you can enjoy the well-known features directly from their application, not through third party softwares. The phone applications is already available on Windows Mobile, and this new development makes us think it will be soon available on Android too. But will it take two years again?

iPhone was a hit since its release, but it had a problem, as you already know. A reception problem, when you hold the phone a different way than it should. What, we should now hold the phone a special way? Well, now you shouldn't anymore. Apple will soon release a software update to solve the problem easier than the users would have thought before. It seems the problem is not a hardware one, but a problem with the operating system. The phone is just wrongly calculating the phone's signal strength.
The problem will, as I said before, be solved soon. Apple knows they have a large software problem and they wouldn't like the phone to spread out to millions of users and then to need to answer to so many critics. Thinking of the fact that iPhone is also bought by people who are not so good with the technology, updating the software might even be a bigger problem than they thought before, so the only thing they have to do is to release that software update faster.

There is not a white version of iPhone 4 available, but there is a luxury one dressed in a white color. It's covered with shiny diamonds and there are going to be only 50 of those, so if you want one and have the money, hurry! Sure, that's for everybody who is filthy rich and likes iPhone, because there are not many big differences between them two. Actually, besides the diamonds, there is the same device. The phone, called iPhone 4 Diamond Edition is delivered by Stuart Hughes, a well-known luxury designer.
The frame and the Apple logo are encrusted with around 6.5 carats of diamonds, and you'll find an unlocked iPhone 4 32GB in white under the hood. Along with the specs you heard of now, there is also a thin ostrich foot leather wallet for everybody who buys the phone. As I said before, there are only 50 versions of this phone that are going to be produced.

Universal remote controls cost between $150 and $1000+, but if you have an iPhone, then you can have a universal remote for just $10. No, you won't get a gift from Apple, is just a new application for iPhone created by Zeev Braude. The application is called My TV Remote and can be downloaded from iTunes. When you buy it you will be shipped an infrared emitter to create a link between the phone and the TV. The emitter has to be plugged in the headphone jack.
The application works a bit different than a universal remote. Instead of flipping through channels, you will get a list of channels in a TV guide and you can flip through the channels just like you do it through your music. You can even see what shows are on each channel. Cool, must I say!

For all of you out there who pre-ordered an iPhone from Verizon. Yeah, it's you I am talking to. Be glad, Verizon announced to have officially began the shipping actions for the pre-orders of the iPhone 4. The process of pre-ordering only started less than 24 hours ago and yet, Verizon seems to be already done to go out there and deliver you the devices.
However, Apple has a well-known history of delivering heavy shipping duties. Verizon might have already began the process to be able to match the release date of February 10. Don't get too excited about your item being shipped, it might take up to a week - or even more - to get the device in your pocket.

The newest version of Apple's operating system seems to hit the phones soon. It usually takes around two months for Apple to release a final version after launching three Betas, and Apple already launched Beta 3 few days ago. By our calculations this means the final version should arrive two weeks from now.
Sources are suggesting the operating system will be released around Valentine's Day, maybe even right on the 14th. It will be the middle of February, that's for sure.
