Good Lock by Samsung was a "good" application at launch but it had quite a few serious bugs. The location settings popped up repeatedly, the colors were ordinary and most importantly, it sapped the battery severely. Samsung did address quite a few of the bugs in earlier updates, including the auto update issue, Home button issue and multiple problems with external SD cards. There were also a host of other bug fixes and add on features that were introduced by Samsung earlier, but this latest update takes customization options another step further.

The Good Lock Update v24.0.9 will add enhanced Routine color settings, more colors for the lock screen clock, a shortcut to Mobile hotspot on the Quick Panel and a new, bug free dark themed notification shade. If you have a Galaxy S7 or a Galaxy S7 Edge, you will see a new AOD Quick Setting as well. Considering that it has been out only for a month, it's good to see that Samsung is so dedicated to providing the best possible experience to its users. You can download and use the Good Lock app if you have any of the following handsets form the Korean OEM; Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Active, Galaxy S6 Edge, Galaxy S6 Edge+, Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge.

If you own any one of the two Samsung flagship smartphones, you should receive a notification for another new update very soon. This one will upgrade the firmware to version FXXU1APE9. The Korean OEM wasn't particularly famous for releasing fast and rapid updates, but this year, things have changed for the good. Multiple updates have been rolled out since the two phones were released in March, addressing bugs and improving stability in the process.

This one fixes a complex issue in which the power saving mode was disabled as soon as Google Now was launched. It will also resolve the initial flickering that some users complained about while playing back recorded footage. Users will be able to save files to the SD card without any problem now and according to Samsung, "icon location cycle has been changed to improve screen clarity" on the Always On display.

The update is a midsized 332MB file for the S7, and a 353MB one for the S7 Edge. It is an OTA update as usual and we recommend the use of Wi-Fi for downloading them. Although you should receive an automatic notification, you can always check from Settings >About device >Check for updates to see if the patch has arrived on your device yet.

If you own a Galaxy S6 Edge+ or a Note 5 on the Verizon network, you will soon receive a notification prompting you to update your smartphone. There is a good chance that you have already been notified, but even if you hadn't, you will be very soon. Alternatively, one can always check manually by going into Settings >About device > Check for updates.

The post Marshmallow update includes both security patches and general bug fixes, in addition to overall improvements. Notably, the misleading "No SIM card detected" error often encountered on the Note 5 will be fixed. You can also expect improved audio routing for better experience in call quality during both voice and video calls on the two smartphones.

In other news, Verizon's version of the LG G5 is simultaneously receiving an update via OTA as well. Unfortunately though, the monthly security patches have not been included in that update. It was mentioned in the change-log that the package will bring "enhancements for Visual Voice Mail, Airplane Mode and reporting Microsoft Exchange Active Server data usage." Hopefully, another update will be rolled out with the necessary security patches soon enough.

We have good news for owners of Samsung's 2014 flagship as Galaxy S5s in Sri Lanka just got updated to Android Marshmallow. The S5 had already been updated in South Korea, Trinidad and Tobago and Argentina among other nations but this time it was the most common version of the S5 that started receiving the upgrade. The SM-G900F is the most commonly found version of the Galaxy S5 and is used primarily in most of Europe. This probably means that the remaining geographical locations where people use the SM-G900F will also start receiving the upgrade very soon.

Got o Settings, find About device and tap on it, select Software Update and check to see if the Marshmallow update has reached your smartphone yet. Note that this will NOT hasten the process, as the update will only arrive on your S5 when it's scheduled to arrive. It may give you some peace of mind though.

After it does arrive on your S5, you can schedule the entire download and set it up to be completed at a time that is convenient for you. On completion, your Android version will change to 6.0.1, PDA number will change to G900FXXS1CPC8 and CSC number will upgrade to G900FSLK1CPB2.

According to a recent market research data revealed by Counterpoint, the latest S7 series of smartphones from Samsung are in high demand. The survey was done across 40 nations worldwide and the data collected shows that the Galaxy S6 series is being outsold by the S7 series quite significantly. In some countries the increase in sales when compared to the S6 is as high as 50% in the very first month. Considering the fact that the S6 was already a very successful smartphone, such a high rise in sales numbers is very impressive.

In the US itself, the comparative rise in sales is 30%, while in China the number is a less awe-inspiring 10%. Western Europe has also seen a boost in sales by 20% but surprisingly, things are hardly any different from last year in Samsung's own country of origin, South Korea. According to Jeff Fieldhack, the Research Director at Counterpoint, Samsung's decision to release the S7 and S7 Edge in March was the perfect strategy and is largely responsible for the results that we are seeing today.

As explained by James Yan, who is the Research Director at the Chinese wing of Counterpoint, Samsung made a big mistake last year when they did not prepare for the huge demand of their Edge models and ran out of supply. This year, the market has seen an even higher demand for the Edge models than last year but Samsung has not faced any problems regarding supply so far. He further adds that the likes of Huawei Ascend P9 and Mate 8, along with Vivo Xplay5 Elite may give the Samsung Galaxy Edge a run for its money in China.
