Many fans were disappointed when the Galaxy Note 7 did not match up to the rumors of the smartphone sporting 6GB of RAM and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor. One could say that disappointment turned to bewilderment when some of the devices started to explode and a worldwide recall had to be arranged by Samsung. While Samsung sorts the entire mess out, new rumors indicate that Xiaomi is all set to launch the Mi 5s with 6GB of RAM and the mythical Snapdragon 821 chipset with a clock speed of 2.4 GHz.

None of the other rumoured specs seem less than impressive either as it's supposed to be sporting 256GB of internal storage along with a pressure sensitive display. They will probably not upgrade the screen resolution to 1440p though and will instead possibly stick to the same 5.15-inch 1080p panel. Other specs include a 16-megapixel rear camera, a 4-megapixel front camera, fingerprint scanner, NFC, 2G, 3G, 4G, VoLTE and a 3,490mAh battery. Nothing is official though, so we would suggest waiting for a while before getting your hopes up too much.

It has been reported that Xiaomi is working on an upgraded version of the Mi5, dubbed as the Mi5s. The biggest upgrade that this device will feature is a pressure sensitive display which will bring Apple 3D-esque features to their customers. In case you are not aware, a pressure sensitive display allows users to light-press or hard-press the display to bring up various menus, depending on the content.

An ultrasonic fingerprint scanner (Qualcomm made) and dual camera sensors on the back may also be found on the upcoming device. After the LeEco Le Max 2 and the OnePlus 3 was launched a while earlier with 6GB of RAM, it looks like Xiaomi is now ready with a response of their own as 6GB RAM is supposedly an assured feature of the Mi5s. What would be interesting to see is if the Chinese OEM would use the Snapdragon 823 SoC that will supposedly power the Galaxy Note 7 as well, when it comes out in August. If this news got your attention, then you should be happy to know that the Mi5s will apparently be released this year only, along with the rumored Mi Note 2.

Xiaomi is known mainly as the budget king of the smartphone world, but in an effort to outshine even the likes of the S7 Edge, today it has launched its most expensive smartphone in China. However, considering the beastly specifications that it boasts of, we would say it still is a budget device, if you consider the price-to-performance ratio. Just take a look at the specs unveiled today to get an idea about the proposition.

Display: 5.7-inch dual curved QHD display (Flexible OLED).
SoC: Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 (2.35GHz)
RAM: 4GB/6GB
Internal storage: 64GB/128GB
Battery: 4070mAh

Even the staunchest of Samsung or Apple fans must admit that these are some impressive specs, at least on paper anyway. Once you consider the price, we are sure that you will find it even more interesting. The 4GB/64GB version is priced at CNY 2,799 ($410) and the 6GB/128GB version is available for CNY 3,499 ($515). The good news is that the 6GB/128GB variant will see international release, with global support for 37 LTE bands. We cannot wait to see how the Xiaomi Note 2 performs once it's released.

The next flagship smartphone from Huawei is coming and if the rumors have any truth to them, it's going to be a very capable device. Leaks on Weibo seem to be indicating that the Huawei Mate 9 will be powered by the manufacturer's in-house HiSilicon Kirin 960 Octa-core 64-bit processor and six gigabytes of RAM. There will allegedly be different versions of the Mate 9 and the 6GB RAM version will sport 256GB of internal storage to go with all that memory and processing power. There could also be a more modest version of the smartphone that will sport the same chipset, but 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal memory. All versions might also be powered by a big 4,000mAh battery.

Camera has been the highlight of the Mate 9 in all recent rumors since they have partnered up with Leica, the German camera maker for providing a rumoured dual camera setup at the back. The two 20-megapixel sensors from Leica will supposedly work together to provide stunning details even in low light, thanks to the f/2.0 aperture. The 5.9-inch (QHD resolution) metal-clad phablet will run on Android 7.0 and the OEM will make sure that customers get a LOT of colors to choose from while buying the smartphone. Apart from the 256GB/6GB version ($700/4700 yuan) and the 128GB/4GB version ($580/3899 yuan), there will also be a more affordable 64GB/4GB version ($480/3199 yuan) as well.

Quite a few of you may argue that smartphones don't really need 6GB of RAM and it might even be true in some cases. However, the fact is that they are here and some months down the line, even more models with 6GB RAM will start making appearances. That being said, if you want to feel the absolute sense of supremacy that comes with owning one of these beasts, here are the ones that we would recommend.

OnePlus 3 ($399)

There is no two way about it, the OnePlus 3 is a real flagship killer with its beastly specs and the Oxygen OS, which runs pretty close to stock Android. Apart from the 6GB of RAM, the OnePlus 3 also sports a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chip (2.15GHz), Adreno 530 GPU, 3,000mAh battery, brilliant 16-mp/8-mp rear and front cameras, a 5.5-inch 1080p AMOLED display and 64GB of non-expandable storage. At this price, you will probably have a hard time finding a better phone to be honest.

Asus Zenfone 3 Deluxe ($499 for 64GB/6GB)

The Asus Zenfone 3 Deluxe is another flagship smartphone with specs similar to the OnePlus 3, but a slightly larger 5.7-inch 1080p display. The beautifully made phone feels as premium as it looks. Internal storage options include 64GB/128GB/256GB variants, but the Zenfone 3 Deluxe also offers a micro-SD card slot. It has a larger rear camera sensor of 23-megapixels as compared to the OnePlus 3, but we all know that megapixels do not determine the actual quality of the photograph.

LeEco LeMax 2 (Around $400 for 64GB/6GB)

This is the only smartphone on this list that sports a 5.7-inch Quad HD display and it instantaneously makes this a winner in the display department. Based on Android Marshmallow 6.0 and LeEco's own EUI, the Le Max 2 is a beautiful device. However, it doesn't support expandable storage, nor does it have a headphone jack unfortunately. The 21-megapixel camera is quite a capable one and the front camera is better than most of the competition. The 3,000 mAh battery is a decent performer, considering that it powers the flagship SD 820 CPU, along with the Quad HD 5.7-inch panel.

It has been a long time since the rumours about Vivo's next gen flagship smartphone surfaced. In fact this news goes back to 2014 and at that time they were supposed to be one of the pioneers in implementing Snapdragon 810 SoC. Quite evident that it didn't happen and now Snapdragon 810 is no way Qualcomm's best chip. At the same time people are looking forward to the XPlay 5, which is supposed to be available from March 1. At this point one important feature has been changed to another - this device will be the first one to come with 6 GB RAM.

But, don't consider this as a rumor. This has been leaked from the AnTuTu 6 benchmark test and even though we don't see 6GB being mentioned clearly, the 162,610 points mentioned in the leak is close to 30K more than other devices available in the database. We are also not exactly sure whether 2GB of extra memory can result in such a boost. In addition to this, there is a banner which states that the XPlay 5 will be powered by a Snapdragon 820 SoC and 6GB RAM. Also there are speculations about a 5.5 inch display too.

UPDATE: A tipster has revealed another piece of info about the Vivo XPlay 5 - this smartphone will feature Hi-Fi 3.0, which is most probably a cutting-edge audio processing chip, similar to rest of the Vivo devices like the X6 Plus.

It was a big disappointment to many of the Samsung fans who were waiting eagerly for the Note 7, when it came with just 4GB of RAM and the same SD 820 SoC seen in the S7-series. However, latest reports seem to be indicating that the Asian markets such as China will actually be getting the 6GB variant after all. The rumors were further bolstered when president of Samsung Mobiles, Koh Dong-jin said, "We are considering launching Note 7 with a 128 GB internal storage capacity for the Chinese market, even though the handset made its global debut with a 64 GB memory,"

Although this statement by Koh Dong-jin does not exactly mention anything about a 6GB RAM variant, he did state further that, "We will continue to accept different needs from each marketplace, and respond by releasing localized products by changing memory capacity or color." As you can probably guess, this strategy is a direct result of stiff competition from Chinese manufacturers like LeEco, Vivo, and Xiaomi. All of this was declared during the unveiling of the Galaxy Note 7 in South Korea with a price tag of 988,900 WON or roughly $897. Apart from the Silver Titanium, Blue coral and Gold Platinum colors, the Note 7 will also be available in Black Onyx from October onwards.

Samsung just unveiled a 10nm LPDDR4 6GB DRAM meant for mobile devices at the Samsung Mobile Solutions Forum 2016 in Shenzhen, China recently. Since in 2016, the only upcoming device from the South Korean manufacturer that is worthy of such an upgrade is the Galaxy Note 6, we are pretty sure that is where it will make its debut.

It would be an intelligent guess if we were to say that the same RAM will also be seen on the Samsung Galaxy S8 in 2017. Right now though, we are excited about the Galaxy Note 6. The rumors that are encircling the phablet are awe-inspiring to say the least. A Snapdragon 823 processor that's more powerful than the SD 820, 6GB of LPDDR4 DRAM, 5.8-inch Super AMOLED QHD display and all this powered through a system that consumes less power than its previous iterations!

The software is in its developmental stage though, as per reports and would likely be based on Android N. It will be interesting to see how much of these rumors the Note 6 lives up to, when it is unveiled in August (probably). However, if the newly confirmed 6GB RAM is any indication, then we would be obligated to say that the rumors are pretty spot on these days!

The specifications for the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 6 have been leaked and the news it pretty good.

Firstly, the 5.8-inch display will come with a slim RGB AMOLED display, which is likely to improve upon the PenTile-type display of the previous Galaxy Note models. Secondly, the dazzling 6 GB of RAM memory is sure to be able to handle any future Android OS upgrade and numerous resource-heavy apps running at the same time.

Whilst the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge are garnering the most attention ahead of their unveiling, the Galaxy Note 6 has other people curious who've owned a Note before and cannot manage well without an S Pen and the S Pen range of compatible apps.

The latest Note is likely to also sport the Super OIS Plus 12-megapixel camera which is slated for other Samsung models like the S7 and S7 edge as well.

The Mobile World Congress 2016 in Spain from February 21 is going to set the stage for many interested handset releases, including the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge from Samsung. Last year, Samsung walked away with the "Best New Handset, Tablet or Device" award for the Galaxy S6 edge and it's possible they may just achieve the same this year.

As we reported earlier, there will probably be only one variant of the Galaxy Note 7 this year and it will have an Edge display. Although the specifications are more or less out by this point, we can never be sure until and unless we actually hear an official announcement on August 2. Nevertheless, here are the important bits from what we know about the upcoming Note so far.

It may also sport a first of its kind iris scanner, an USB Type-C port and IP68 rating for water and dust resistance. There was and possibly still is a bit of confusion regarding the type of display that the upcoming Note will sport, but all major signs and reports indicate that only an Edge variant will be made available this year. The Samsung Galaxy C9 Pro is now official as it was unveiled earlier today in China. This is the first smartphone from Samsung's arsenal to come equipped with 6 gigs of RAM, as well as a Qualcomm Snapdragon 653 SoC. The huge phablet sports a 6" display that's even larger than Samsung's Note series of smartphones. However, in spite of being larger, the panel sports a lower resolution than the company's flagship smartphones as it is Full HD, instead of Quad HD.

Other specs of the phablet include 64GB of internal storage, a micro-SD card slot, 16-mp sensors for both the rear and the front camera with f/1.9 aperture, a 4,000mAh battery, dual SIM slots with 4G LTE support, fingerprint sensor, Cirrus manufactured Hi-Fi audio codec, a 3.5mm audio jack, NFC, Samsung Pay, Android 6.0.1 and an all metal body. We are particularly interested to see how the octa-core SD 653 performs, which is powered by four Cortex-A72 cores and four Cortex-A53 cores. The powerful Adreno 510 GPU supporting the CPU cores should also be able to take care of any modern Android games that you throw at it, especially since it's only a 1080p panel on the C9 pro.

Samsung announced earlier today it has began mass producing its latest 6Gb LPDDR3 Mobile DRAM chips. They're made using the 20nm manufacturing process and are designed with high performance smartphones and tablets in mind by achieving data transfer rates of up to 2,133Mbps.

 

 

A 3GB LPDDR3 package can now be made using four 6Gb LPDDR3 chips is 20% smaller and consumes 10% less energy than existing 3GB packages such as the one found in the Galaxy Note 4. The 20nm process also results in 30% productivity gain compared to the 30nm process.

 

"Our new 20nm 6Gb LPDDR3 DRAM provides the most advanced mobile memory solution for the rapidly expanding high-performance mobile DRAM market," - Jeeho Baek, vice president, memory marketing, Samsung Electronics.

It seems just yesterday when the Galaxy Note 7 was released and eventually discontinued, but we are now inching closer to the release date of the Galaxy S8. Granted that no date has yet been set in stone, it cannot be more than just a few months away at this point. Today, we have a new report/rumor for you, straight out of China (Weibo) and reported by TechTastic. It states that the S8 will sport 6GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage, along with the upcoming Samsung-manufactured Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC.

Some of the other rumors surrounding the S8 include a dual rear camera module, an edge-to-edge pressure-sensitive 2K/4K curved display, a brand new AI virtual assistant and Quick Charge 4.0. It will be interesting to see whether Samsung launches a separate Exynos version of the Galaxy S8 as well, since the Korean giant itself is producing the SD 835 chip for Qualcomm this year. Some reports are also suggesting that there might even be a 6.2-inch version of the S8 next year, but I am not so sure about that!

Many of us were disappointed when the Galaxy S8 was launched with just 4GB of RAM instead of the 6GB that the series has been definitely overdue for. As it turns out, Samsung may indeed launch a 6 gigabyte RAM variant of the S8+ in near future. In addition to 6GB RAM, the device will also sport 128GB of internal storage. This is confirmed news as the handset has received TENAA certification already, as you can see in the screenshot.

However, before you get all excited about Samsung finally launching a 6GB/128GB variant of the Galaxy S8, consider the two following points first.

1. It is probably going to be a China-exclusive initially.

2. The price of the device is expected to be KRW 1,155,000/$1,027

Unless you are in China and you are willing to shell that amount of cash out for the extra RAM and storage, you will just have to settle with the regular S8 and S8+ for now with 4GB RAM and 64GB in-built storage. Would this version be making its way to the US and other regions as well? It might, but we will have to wait on that.

If you have been following the buzz circulating around the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8+, then you probably already know that Samsung does indeed have a 6GB RAM variant of the larger Galaxy S8+ up its sleeves, just like the rumors had suggested before the news was confirmed by Samsung officially. However, many of us were disappointed when it was revealed that the 6GB RAM variant, which also has 128GB of internal storage, is going to be exclusive to South Korea for now.

Nevertheless, a new report out of Samsung's home nation is saying that this could change. The 6GB/128GB S8+ will likely make its way into at least a few other regions as well, if Samsung feels that enough customers in the area want the device. China is probably the most prominent example of a country which loves their smartphones with more memory and internal storage. Samsung's first and only 6GB RAM phone, the Galaxy C9 Pro was released there first. We will soon find out whether or not Samsung decides to bring it to any European countries or the US. However, the question remains; if it does indeed come to a store near you, would you be willing to shell out more than a thousand dollars for the extra storage and RAM?

Good news for our Indian readers; the Galaxy S8+ with beastly specs like 128GB ROM and 6GB RAM has now been launched in the country by Samsung. The black-only phones will be up for pre-order on Flipkart from June 2 and will be go on sale from June 9 across all offline and online partners of Samsung. Although it was previously believed that Samsung will keep this version of the smartphone exclusive to South Korea, it seems like the company has changed its plans. Keep in mind though, the 128GB/6GB Galaxy S8+ will set you back by Rs 74,990 or roughly $1165! If you thought the iPhones were expensive in India, Sammy doesn't seem to be too far behind either.

Now that the initial excitement of the news is over, the question is, should you get it? For a premium of Rs 10,000 ($155) more than the price of the regular S8+, you are getting double the storage and 2GB of extra RAM and to be honest, it wouldn't be a bad deal at all, if the S8+ was already not so expensive in the country. Crazy taxes in India make foreign made electronic devices cost way more than they do in the US or just about any other country and the S8/S8+ is no exception to this rule either. Nevertheless, if you can afford it and you wanted a S8+, I don't see why you shouldn't buy one either.

The upcoming Huawei P9 is one of the most anticipated Android phones and rumors indicate that Huawei might release it this very week at the CES 2016 in Las Vegas. Pan Jiutang is the popular Chinese analyst who fuelled our imaginations even further by stating that the P9 may sport 6GB of RAM. We have seen the likes of the Galaxy Note 5 and the ASUS Zenfone 2 in 2015 who came in the industry with 4GB of RAM first, and may be the P9 will be the first smartphone to sport 6GB RAM. If we are lucky, we will find out for sure in just a few days.

In October, 2015, we came to know about a label that was made for the Huawei P9 and it indicated the possibility of dual camera sensors on the back of the phone. Jiutang builds on that piece of info and concludes that the phone will actually sport two 13 megapixel back cameras. He further hints that a complex algorithm will support the dual lenses in capturing and rendering images of supreme quality.

Other speculations about the P9 revolves around a 1080p Full HD 5.2 inch display and Huawei's own extremely powerful HiSilicon Kirin 950 processor coupled with the next-gen Mali T880 MP4 GPU. If all of the speculations made by Pan Jiutang turn out to be true, then the Huawei P9 will certainly take its place among the world's most powerful smartphones.
