If the latest report by Naver from South Korea has any truth to it, then we are probably going to be looking at the Galaxy Note 8 earlier than we thought we would. As per the report, Samsung is not going to wait till the IFA in September, but is going to announce the next Note at a Samsung exclusive event in New York City on the 26th of August.

 

Given that the Galaxy Note 7 was launched on August 2 last year, the August 26 date is still almost a month after the one year mark and that's exactly why this report may very well turn out to be true. Whether or not this change in schedule was brought on to get an edge over the iPhone 8 is unclear at this point of time. Truth be told, I am highly doubtful than an earlier than iPhone release will really affect the Note 8's sale by much. The reason I say this is because people who buy iPhones are usually the ones who buy well... iPhones! Samsung on the other hand, might also be eager to bring its first Note device to the market ever since the Note 7 disaster.

Google just posted a new Android commercial on the Android official YouTube account. The new video is titled "Android: Friends Furever." The misspelling is intentional the video is a compilation unlikely animal friendships. A monkey and a dog, cat and ducklings, an elephant and a sheep, let's just say the video causes a cuteness overload.

 

This continues the "Be together. #NotTheSame" campaign that Google has been running since last year. Check the video below.

Since the advent of mobile technology, it has been inevitable that mobile devices would overtake so called ‘fixed devices' in many capacities. The next step in mobile development is expected to be viewing online videos.


Worldwide, consumers spend an average of 19.7 minutes a day viewing online videos through their mobile devices (Tablets and Smartphones) compared to 16.0 minutes on fixed devices such as desktop computers and Smart TVs. Overall, this is a 39% increase for mobile devices on last year where 14.2 minutes were spent viewing online videos through mobile devices. It is anticipated fixed device viewing will remain the same thanks to Smart TVs becoming more accessible to offset the decline of the desktop computer.


The growth in mobile video viewership is primarily being driven thanks to the growing popularity of mobile devices and the increased accessibility thanks to lower cost options becoming available. As the devices become steadily more advanced; so too do the connection options such as much wider spread Wi-Fi coverage and the high speed 4G.


Mobile video consumption will continue to grow by a projected 33% in 2017 and 27% in 2018, according to reports, taking the average viewership to around 33.4 minutes a day which may sound like a lot but it's perfectly feasible when you consider how much you personally view at present. The projections suggest mobile devices will account for 64% of all online video consumption by 2018 but it isn't all bad news for fixed devices as it is anticipated by 2018 the average viewing will be 18.7 minutes as Smart TV's become more common in homes.


You may have noticed, whether you view online video via mobile or fixed devices, that advertising has become much more common and that is down to increased investment from advertisers in the online market. We've all attempted to watch a YouTube channel or playlist and had every video interrupted by an advert as a precursor and this shows no sign of slowing down as video advertising will account for 68% of all online video advertising this year - down from 75% last year which may be a semblance of good news.


Most online video viewership is mobile but the bulk of online video advertising is aimed at fixed devices and will continue to be into 2017. This is more evident in the gambling market where brands such as SBAT explore new channels. Video adverts are believed to be more engaging on larger screens and also more effective so progressively more money is to be invested in fixed video advertising.


Most brands treat online video as a compliment to traditional television rather than competition, most online video providers offer previously broadcast programs as the bulk of their offering anyway. Mobile devices will dominate online video consumption and may even eliminate the competition before long and most advertising will soon make the move from fixed broadcasts to mobile broadcasts instead. The future is coming, much quicker than many expected.

As mobile gaming ages and creates a vast library of exclusive games for itself, it also borrows plenty of classic titles that originated on consoles or computers. Secret of Mana, Grand Theft Auto, Crazy Taxi Classic and Bully are just a few of the old gems you can download onto your phone, but even with all of the games that have made the transition, there's still a few that we'd like to see as an app and we haven't yet.

Shadow of the Colossus (PS2)


Widely regarded as one of the best games of all time and certainly the best out of the three titles developed by Team Ico, Shadow of the Colossus definitely needs to make its first handheld appearance. With the E3 2017 announcement that there will be a SotC remake in 2018, it only seems appropriate to make a port for phones so that people can slay on the go.


With the dynamic gameplay of climbing up colossi opened up to touch screen, we might see some interesting changes to the classic controls - such as swiping up to scale a monster's back and double tapping the screen to plunge your sword into the beast's weak point. Although the final fight did suffer from serious frame dropping, the problem was virtually fixed in the PS3 port - a blueprint that developers should be sure to use when building the game for iOS and Android.

Grabbed by the Ghoulies (Xbox)


From the same people who brought you GoldenEye 007 and Banjo & Kazooie comes Grabbed by the Ghoulies. The whimsical horror game has the player taking on hordes of Halloween baddies as they traverse a haunted mansion in search of the main character's girlfriend. While the game received mixed reviews upon its release, it was eventually re-released in the Rare Replay bundle for Xbox One, and has even gone on to inspire similar titles such as Grave Grabbers https://www.slots.io, a five-reel, 20-payline slot game that borrows heavily from the comedic and animated horror themes featured in Rare's classic.


Grabbed by the Ghoulies also features a soundtrack by legendary video game composer Grant Kirkhope, the same man who created the highly regarded Donkey Kong Country series soundtracks. And with the recent boost in augmented reality games, thanks to Pokemon Go, Grabbed by the Ghoulies can take advantage of the same technology to bring the monster mashing madness right into your home.

Since Nintendo has finally gotten with the times and started releasing app games, there's a whole slew of old gems that need releasing on the phone, but none more deserving that Super Mario Kart, a franchise that has sold 90.50 million copies worldwide according to vgchartz.com. With an added online multiplayer mode where people could play with others in their proximity and the addition of tilt controls similar to the Wiimote, Super Mario Kart could be modernized for a whole new generation of gamers.


Although Mario Kart 8 and Mario Kart 7 are already available portable titles, not everyone owns a system to play them on. However, practically everyone owns a phone. Before we know it, we could be back in the '90s playing the first ever released Mario Kart online off of our phones. Now that's a nostalgia overload.
