We have had a good look at the Gear S3 Classic and the Frontier back in September when it was showcased at the IFA, but it hasn't hit all the major markets around the world yet. However, that is about to change because the two smartwatches just went on sale in South Korea. They will also be going on sale in markets around the world in the upcoming weeks, starting with the US, the UK, Germany France, Australia, Dubai and Singapore on November 18.

Both smartwatches will be running on Samsung's own Tizen OS, but only the Frontier has LTE connectivity via an embedded SIM. The S3 Frontier will be coming to T-Mobile in the US, but do check with your local carrier to know if the watch will be supported by them. All other features including the GPS navigation, the IP68 waterproofing and the heart-monitor are identical. Although Samsung Pay is supported by both the smartwatches, the facility will only be available in the US, Australia and Singapore at the moment.

The global gaming industry has grown exponentially in recent years, with video game sales rising 13.3% between 2017 and 2018. By 2021, this market is expected to reach an astonishing $180.1 bn.

While console games have been popular for decades, revenue from smartphone games has now become the fastest growing. Smartphone games now possess 41% of the market, in comparison to console games at 25% and download or boxed PC games at 21%.

This growth can be accredited to both the rise in smartphone ownership, which is above 70% of the population in the UK, and the amount of choice in high-quality mobile games now available to consumers.

From retro favourites like Sonic the Hedgehog to classics such as bingo, many of the best games, once popular on consoles and PCs, have been adapted for mobile. Here are five that we recommend you give a try:

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City

First up is Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, an action packed, single-player game that follows the story of felon Tommy Vercetti and his involvement in Miami's notorious criminal gangs. Players roam the city on foot or by vehicle, completing various missions as they evade police capture.

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City was first released in 2002 on PlayStation 2 and then on Xbox and PC in the following year. The game received critical acclaim and sold 17.5 million copies within 12 months, with positive feedback being shared widely for its music, gameplay and graphic design.  However, its developers Rockstar Games did receive some criticism for its depiction of violence and criminal activity.

10 years after its initial release, fans of the game were delighted as it became available for iOS and Android devices in 2012. It included mobile-specific features, new camera controls, better resolution and upgraded textures. This game mode allows more customisation of its interface and is popular among both its original console players and a new audience of young adults.

Bingo

Traditionally played by a more mature audience, bingo is now increasingly popular amongst a younger generation, as it has become widely available online and on mobile.

Bingo halls were once a popular destination for people to gather during their downtime, however the number of bingo halls has halved in recent years as players turn to online games. There are now an estimated 3.5m online bingo players in the UK.

Surprisingly, playing online has become a more sociable option for many, as sites incorporate chatrooms and forums into their games. Also, with the rise of no deposit bingo sites, those interested in the game are able to win cash prizes with less input from themselves. There are many great promotional offers available online for both new and regular players, and with the use of handy comparison sites such as Bingoport, finding and comparing game choices can be done with ease.

Sonic the Hedgehog

Bringing with it a sense of nostalgia, the classic Sega Mega Drive game Sonic the Hedgehog was released on iOS and Android in May 2013. In the game, Sonic, a blue hedgehog with supersonic speed, is given the task of rescuing animals from the evil Doctor Robotnik. Dr Robotnik plans to turn these animals into robots and achieve world domination. Sonic must battle through multiple zones in order to reach and defeat the doctor.

During the early noughties, newer versions of the game were released on GameCube, PlayStation and Xbox. The franchise has had many series and spin-offs, including Sonic 3D Blast, Sonic Adventure and Sonic Heroes. This video game franchise is estimated to be worth $5 billion alone, not including its related TV series, merchandise and comics.

Now available on mobile through the Sega Forever series, the classic game has been adapted and includes new features. There is an all new time-attack mode and new characters, including Tails and Knuckles who have unique abilities. Even its catchy soundtrack has been re-mastered for the mobile game.

Tomb Raider

Developed by Core Design in 1996, Tomb Raider was originally released for Sega Saturn, MS-DOS and PlayStation. The plot follows archaeologist Lara Croft as she searches for ancient treasures across the world.

This version of the game achieve over 7 million sales globally and was considered one of the best games in the action-adventure genre. Many reboots of the game have been released on consoles, including updated versions in 2007 and 2013.

Tomb Raider 1 and 2 were released on iOS and Android between 2013 and 2014. They are similar to the original in terms of plot, however graphics and sounds have been updated to provide a more immersive gaming experience. For Tomb Raider players not used to touchscreen controls, connecting an external controller is an option.

Splendor

Splendor is a multi-player card-based board game, with each player taking on the role of a gem merchant who must buy shops, mines and transportation infrastructure. Voted the best family board game by both Golden Geek and Dice Tower Gaming Awards, this classic resource management game is loved by many.

Adapted for mobile play, this game is now enjoyed by an even wider audience. With renaissance style graphics and music, players are immersed in its 15th century ambience. ‘Challenges' are a unique feature to the mobile game, they task individuals with scenarios based on actual historical events. For gamers with an interest in history, this mobile app provides more context and a more engaging experience than its original board game version.

With developments in technology and increased choice, online gaming is more popular than ever. Classic games once played on consoles or boards have developed into immersive experiences for handheld devices. These adaptations have allowed games that might have otherwise been forgotten to live on and be enjoyed by new audiences.

French mobile game developer Gameloft recently celebrated its 20th year in the world of mobile gaming. The Parisian development studio, founded by Ubisoft's co-founder Michel Guillemot, has published many of the best mobile games available on Android. As a gift to its long-standing base of mobile customers, Gameloft has unveiled its Gameloft Classics application, a free download that gives users direct access to a suite of 30 iconic Gameloft titles, some of which haven't ever been downloadable on mobile devices.

Alexandre de Rochefort, chief finance officer at Gameloft, said that the "accomplishment" of successfully operating for two decades needed to be marked. The launch of Gameloft Classics has been dubbed a "moment of celebration" for the studio, giving the team a chance to "look back and see how the industry has changed and evolved" through the years.

During the first decade of Gameloft's existence, the studio had over 200 million downloads of their mobile games, cementing the Ubisoft subsidiary as one of Europe's leading mobile game developers. The studio has covered all kinds of mobile gaming genres, like puzzle-based games such as Bubble Bash 2, dating sims like Date or Ditch 2, and one of the first mobile ‘shooter' games NOVA. It's even dabbled in classic games such as Texas Hold'em Poker that are normally reserved for online casino games to give card players the thrill they need whether they are playing mobile casinos in South Africa, the UK, the US, or the Far East.

Within the Gameloft Classics release there are several of Gameloft's earliest games that weren't designed for today's state-of-the-art smartphones and tablets. Many of these are still talked about in misty-eyed terms on gaming forums which are still used to promote mobile games. These early-stage mobile games have since had a 2020 reboot, with the addition of touchscreen controls to enhance player engagement and immersivity. Nevertheless, some of these titles still retain the old-school graphics that provide throwback vibes.

Titles included in the Gameloft Classics: 20 Years app

Wondering what kind of retro fun you can have with Gameloft Classics? Here are four of the most popular Gameloft releases included in this free app:

  • Gangstar 2: Kings of L.A.
There was a sense that Gameloft's Gangstar 2: Kings of L.A. release was inspired by the huge success of the Grand Theft Auto franchise. This game transports you to America's west coast and the sprawling metropolis of Los Angeles. To complete this, you'll need to pass 75 missions within the city's gang culture, including action and driving missions.

  • Bubble Bash 2
As puzzle games go, Gameloft had a distinct fascination with bubbles. Bubble Bash 2 was undoubtedly the most popular and successful puzzle game developed by Gameloft, rivaling the likes of Puzzle Bobble in the mobile download stakes.

  • Soul of Darkness
There was something nostalgic about Gameloft's Soul of Darkness. This 2D ‘spooktacular' was a particular hit with Castlevania fans through the years. The side-scrolling platform game brought the vampire theme to life in a world where "only your sword and powers can dispel the darkness".

  • Diamond Rush

Gameloft's original Diamond Rush mobile game has been rebooted in the Classics app. Incorporating over 200 puzzles and 40 levels, you'll have tonnes of obstacles to avoid in your quest for the finish line, including stalactites, dangerous spiders, thick jungle, and much more.

Bingo-blitz

Some games never get old, and you can never get bored playing them, just like the good old game of bingo. When you combine something like a good classic with modern technology, you get an online game that's taken the world by storm. In this article, we will dive deep into the reasons behind the enormous popularity of online variants.

How the online variant changes the classic

The massive popularity of online bingo forced bingo halls to make some changes to the way they organize their games so they can stay competitive. To encourage players to leave their homes and visit halls, they are transforming them into attractive modern venues. Bingo halls now look like pubs, with music, sofas, and a nightclub atmosphere.

Although the basic rules of the game remain the same, online games have many new attractive elements that make bingo more alluring. We can't say that online bingo is just a substitute for traditional games, it's a more innovative upgrade that gives freshness to the old game.

The popularity of online bingo changes the demographics of players too. The convenience of playing on-the-go, live chat rooms, and free promotions have opened up the game to younger players.

Online bingo is free, and so are many other classics!

What stands out the most in online bingo compared to traditional is free bingo. You can get your free game in different ways. You can have free games in no deposit bingo. You will have to sign-up to the site and get free cash as a welcome bonus, which you can use to buy bingo cards. When you use up bonus cards, you will have to play with your money, but you can expect loyalty bonuses after.

Caesar’s-casino

Or you can visit sites that offer entirely free bingo online, for amusement purposes only. All the transactions are in-game currency and no actual money. The essence of these sites is a fun aspect of the game. You can travel the globe, discover different cultures, and meet new people. Every location room is designed with different themes, and players can chat between and during bingo rounds.

You can also play many different classic games for free, like Caesars slots. Sites offer many daily promotions, special features, and 100 free spins if you are a new member. Although you are not competing for real money prizes, you will be competing for status within the game, so there will be no lack of excitement.

Why is online bingo so popular

The most obvious reason is convenience. The possibility of playing anytime and anywhere is the driving force of attracting more and more players. You don't have to travel to the nearest bingo hall and fight for a parking spot. You can play it while waiting for doctors' appointments, between meetings, and waiting for that friend who's always late.

The market is quite competitive. With so many bingo sites competing for customers, you will have a lot of free bingo tickets and exciting promotions. Thanks to generous welcome bonuses, many newcomers who otherwise would not take an interest in the game are now trying it for the first time.

Games have more variety. Bingo halls are limited by space, and they can't offer many bingo games. In an online variant, different games can take place at the same time. You can find everything, from 30 ball bingo to Deal or No Deal Bingo.

You can play 75-ball bingo, aka US bingo, or the British 90-ball version - you have it all. Not only do you have a variety of bingo games, but you also have different themed games that appeal to different players.

Should we expect future innovation?

The online bingo market is growing and continuously evolving. With so many different alternatives, customers will always choose one that stands out from the crowd. That's precisely the reason we can expect future innovation.

Strong competition between brands is always good for spoiling customers, so we can expect more new promotions. If you want to find out what are the future predictions for classic online games in more detail, go here to read more

Conclusion

The Internet revolutionized bingo. It's more convenient, dynamic, and with various benefits compared to his traditional variant. The growing popularity and competitive market can only lead to one conclusion: the sky's the limit for online bingo now.
