Many fans were disappointed when the Galaxy Note 7 did not match up to the rumors of the smartphone sporting 6GB of RAM and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor. One could say that disappointment turned to bewilderment when some of the devices started to explode and a worldwide recall had to be arranged by Samsung. While Samsung sorts the entire mess out, new rumors indicate that Xiaomi is all set to launch the Mi 5s with 6GB of RAM and the mythical Snapdragon 821 chipset with a clock speed of 2.4 GHz.

None of the other rumoured specs seem less than impressive either as it's supposed to be sporting 256GB of internal storage along with a pressure sensitive display. They will probably not upgrade the screen resolution to 1440p though and will instead possibly stick to the same 5.15-inch 1080p panel. Other specs include a 16-megapixel rear camera, a 4-megapixel front camera, fingerprint scanner, NFC, 2G, 3G, 4G, VoLTE and a 3,490mAh battery. Nothing is official though, so we would suggest waiting for a while before getting your hopes up too much.

We all knew that it was coming, thanks to the rumors and now it's official. The Samsung Galaxy A8 (2016) is going on pre-order in South Korea on October 1, with a price tag of 649,000 won ($580). The smartphone will be exclusive to SK telecom for now. We are not sure whether the smartphone will be sold off-shores as well, but there is a chance that it might be in at least certain specific markets. Check out the specs below to get a closer look at what Samsung is offering with the new incarnation of the A8.

· 5.7-inch Super AMOLED Full High Definition display
· Always On display
· Samsung Exynos 7420 octa-core 14nm processor
· 3GB RAM
· 32GB of internal storage
· 16-megapixel rear camera
· 8-megapixel front camera
· Fingerprint scanner embedded in the Home button
· 3,300mAh battery
· Samsung Grace UX on top of Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow
· Samsung Pay enabled

To be frank, the new A8 (2016) just seems like a tweaked Galaxy S6 Edge Plus, minus the Quad High Definition Edge display (ironically). There is no doubt that the Exynos 7420 is still quite a capable chip, but considering that it's already more than a year old, the A8 (2016) may not be the best option for the price, except for the strictest of Samsung fans of course.

In case you are not aware, Synaptics is a company that's famous for making fingerprint scanners, especially for Samsung. They have unveiled quite an innovative piece of fingerprint sensing tech today, dubbed the Natural ID FS9100 optical fingerprint sensor. It resembles the "under the glass" fingerprint scanner which we have been hearing about so far only in rumors and given the history shared by Samsung and Synaptics of working together, we are pretty much sure that this is what we are going to see on the Galaxy S8 next year.

"Synaptics' FS9100 family of fingerprint sensors represent a new breed of optical fingerprint sensor technology that is designed to meet the needs of mobile devices, including the ability to image through thick 2.5D glass. In addition to opening the door to new industrial design options, it enables OEMs to provide highly durable, button-free cover glass and more easily provide water-resistant products, while eliminating low-yield glass processing" - Anthony Gioelli, Vice-President of Biometrics Marketing, Synaptics

This new optical fingerprint sensor works flawlessly even when placed under 1mm of 2.5D glass. Additionally, it can also detect prints from wet fingers, which makes it a great companion for water-resistant smartphones (like the Galaxy S8). Since it's meant to be placed below the front glass of the smartphone, the FS9100 is immune to scratches and electro-static discharges by default. This is the perfect addition to the S8, now that Samsung has probably decided to remove the physical Home button and go with a bezel-less display.
