Black Friday was a shopping extravaganza as usual, with customers spending billions of dollars on electronics alone. Even though Black Friday came and went, Cyber Monday is finally upon us with much of the same awesome deals, but from the comfort of your home and your laptop. Let's now take a look at some of the best deals on the S7 and S7 Edge that the online shops have for you today.

1. You will get a $250 gift card if you buy a Samsung Galaxy S7 or S7 Edge on an AT&T plan from BestBuy. Just for good measure, they are also throwing in a Gear VR headset and content from the Occulus Store that's worth $50, without any extra charge.

2. BestBuy also has the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 Edge from Verizon and Sprint, opting for which will entitle you to a $400 gift card from BestBuy, as well as the bundled Gear VR headset.

These are the top deals on the two flagship devices this Cyber Monday and remember that they are only applicable as long as stocks last.

In the latest report regarding the iPhone 8, it has been mentioned that Apple will launch three variants, instead of the two that we are accustomed to. The rumor was supplied by KGI Securities, who have an excellent track record of providing the internet with accurate leaks when it comes to Apple products. If it's indeed true, then there will be two different variants of the bigger 5.5-inch iPhone 8 (Plus), along with a single smaller 4.7-inch regular version.

1. 4.7-inch LCD display and a single camera
2. 5.5-inch LCD display and a dual rear camera setup
3. 5.5-inch OLED display and a dual rear camera setup

I am not sure, but the iPhone 8 Plus having both an LCD version, as well as an OLED version could be directly related to the fact that Samsung is unable to produce sufficient OLED panels for the upcoming iPhones. According to a report by Bloomberg, Samsung's production rate of the OLED panels isn't high enough to keep up with Apple's demand. Nevertheless, Samsung will still be the only supplier of the OLED panels to Apple till 2018, as they are already into a contract. We will find out more in the coming months.

Despite some awkward flaws, the Galaxy S8 and S8+ smartphones are the biggest Android smartphones in the market right now. The LG G6 is its closest market competitor right now, but the older Qualcomm Snapdragon chip doesn't really help its cause much. As the iPhone 8 is still quite far off in terms of being released, the upcoming Nokia 9 could be Samsung's only real competitor, if the rumoured specs of the HMD smartphone turn out to be true. Cheek the rumoured spec sheet below to see what we mean.

5.5-inch QHD OLED display
Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor
6GB of RAM
64GB/128GB internal storage
22-megapixel dual lens Carl-Zeiss camera on the back
12-megapixel front camera
3800 mAh battery with Quick Charge 4 support
IP68 water and dust certification
Android 7.1.2 Nougat
Nokia OZO audio VR ready sound

The specs do look mighty impressive, especially the OLED QHD display and Nokia OZO audio. However, it isn't only the specs but the popularity of the Nokia name coming back into business as well. We will have to wait and see if it turns out to be as stellar a device as we are hoping for it to be. In the meanwhile, the Galaxy S8 and S8+ are the best Android phones you can buy right now (pre-order to be precise!).

Samsung is taking secrecy very seriously this time around as they had taken the time to officially alert all its employees and supply chain partners against leaking any confidential info about the upcoming Galaxy S8 in particular. However, it doesn't seem to be working too well as someone working for one of Samsung's supply chain partners has leaked some information about the S8, almost as if in response to the warning/request.

According to the report, the Galaxy S8 will inherit the iris scanner from the Note 7, while also being endowed with a dual-lens camera setup at its back. To be frank, this isn't really much of news as we had reported this quite a while ago. Nevertheless, the new leak obviously strengthens those rumors even further. Other expected new features of the S8 include a Full Screen display without the physical Home button, a 10nm chip and 6GB of RAM. In spite of Samsung trying to keep the lid on tight, we are pretty sure more rumors and leaks will begin to pop up as the calendar continues to move towards February, 2017.

The financial reports for Samsung's Q3 2016 sales are out and they show that the Note 7 has burned Samsung in the same way as the company expected it to. The total revenue of the company has plummeted by 3.87 trillion WON/$3.4 billion and landed at 47.82 trillion WON/$42.01 billion; that's a 7.5% decrease, as compared to Q3 2015. Operating profit stands at 5.20 trillion WON/$4.56 billion, which is the lowest for the Korean tech giant in the last two years and shows a 30% decrease.

Things as a whole don't look nearly as bad as it looks in the company's mobile department. Consider this; Samsung Mobiles has managed a total revenue of 22.54 trillion WON/$19.80 billion, which depicts a 96% decrease, as compared to the third quarter of the last year! The profits in the division stand at a meagre 100 billion WON/$87.8 million.

According to reports, things will start to look a little brighter for the company in the last quarter of the year, as it plans to focus on increasing production and sales of the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge in the worldwide market. In the meanwhile, the Galaxy A and Galaxy J series of smartphones will hopefully provide some stability in terms of sales to the company in their respective price segments.

Samsung has now made the SamsungOne official and joins the list of companies with their own unique font, with that step. In case you are wondering what some of those companies are, how about Google and Apple for example? The SamsungOne typeface has been designed to cover an astonishing 400 languages, 26 writing systems and more than 25K glyphs. Now that's what we call a global company!

As the name suggests, SamsungOne is designed to create a visual sense of universal unity, irrespective of the language on which it is applied. Keep in mind that SamsungOne is designed to not only be featured in smartphones, but across all the products that they manufacture and sell, including television sets, microwave ovens, refrigerators and the like. The five typographical principles which they followed while developing the typeface in collaboration with Brody Associates are Humanist, Distinctive, Expert, Universal and Legible.

Although we are not sure when we will see Samsung start using SamsungOne, take a look at the images for a preview. We also have a small video for you from Samsung Newsroom to explain the story behind the concept.

Yesterday, Samsung unveiled their range of Universal Flash Storage (UFS) 1.0 memory cards to the world and they will have significant advantages over micro-SD cards that we use now. These are specifically targeted towards D-SLR and 3D VR cameras, along with action cameras and even drones! Apart from the standard 32GB, 64GB and 128GB variants, the UFS 1.0 cards will offer even a 256GB variant.

If you are like us, you must be wondering what advantage it will give you over traditional micro-SD, when using it in a smartphone. The answer to that is better 3D gaming on phones that use their external memory as the first choice and faster, smoother 4K and VR media playback. The UFS card will read data at a speed of 530MBps, which will put it in the same category as a standard SATA Solid State Hard Disc used in full fledged computers! To give you an idea of the speed, consider the fact that the next time you are transferring a movie on to your UFS card, every GB of data will just take 2 seconds to write onto it. That's five times more than what micro-SD cards are capable of right now and very impressive.

Although there was not an iota of doubt regarding existence of the soon to be launched Samsung Galaxy S7 edge (or its name), an official confirmation from Samsung's own website is surely an important thing before the launch.

They recently added a new page about the edge screen features on the website where the company lets developers download SDKs and other similar development kits. This page is not only dedicated to description the edge screen features, but also used to show the devices in which they will be used. The most likely candidates, the Galaxy S6 edge and Galaxy S6 edge+ are listed just like the Galaxy S7. Hence the existence of the flagship device along with the name is officially confirmed.

Apart from this, new edge display functions, which are matching with the S6 edge models's display features after getting the Android 6.0 Marshmallow upgrade, have also been displayed on the website. Adjacent to the normal, narrow edge panels (‘Edge Single'), wider type (‘Edge Single Plus') panels will be added which will show more information and functionality. Those who loved the extensive functionality of the edge display panels present in Galaxy Note Edge, would sure love these wider edge panels in this smartphone.

It is nice to know that Samsung is proactive when it comes to finding fresh and and improved ways use the most popular features that came with nice aesthetics, but didn't score much in terms of functionality. It looks like the Galaxy S7 edge is moving in the right direction.

Samsung has officially unveiled its next generation of chips at their Device Solutions America Headquarters and they are based on both 14nm, as well as 10nm processes. Now we know where all that investment into their semiconductor business went to. Additionally, they also unveiled their new generation of 7nm Extreme Ultraviolet Lithography (EUV) wafer that will allow for precise patterning on chips, without needing to opt for more than just a single pattern.

The 14LPU process will improve over the current gen 14nm chips by providing them with a boost in performance without exceeding the allotted power quota. Processors enabled by these new 14nm chips will be able to provide high performance for long stretches at a time. The 10LPU process on the other hand, will make the next gen chips smaller than its predecessors; the 10LPE and 10LLP chips. The boost in performance is not highlighted as significant, but they will be cheaper to manufacture and will provide better power efficiency when used inside the new processors. Will the new tech be introduced with the Snapdragon 830 (rumored to be produced by Samsung)? Or will we see them exclusively in the new generation of the Exynos processors? We will find out soon.

Samsung had started to sell a few online-only mobile accessories in South Korea recently, but they have now decided to go global with these exclusive accessories from November. They will still be online-only products, but now you will be able to purchase the accessories from Samsung's own website or other major online shopping sites like Amazon. Many have speculated this move as a direct result of the losses that the company suffered in Q3 2016. If you are interested in what they are planning to sell, take a look at the catalogue below.

In-ear Headphones Rectangle design: Fabric\metal construction, tangle-free cable ($26 approx.)
USB LED Light ($9 approx.)
Wireless Charger Tray design: Support for charging two devices simultaneously ($58 approx.)
Battery Pack Kettle Design: 5,100mAh/10,200mAh ($26/$35 approx.)
Wireless Speaker Bottle Design: wireless charging, 360-degree surround sound, motion sensitive UX ($77 approx.)
Wireless Speaker Scoop Design: Disc design, built-in microphone ($48 approx.)

Keep in mind that the price tags mentioned may differ as they are attained by simply converting each of the product's value from Korean Won to USD.

The Samsung Galaxy S8 is coming and it probably has more attention on it than any of its predecessors because of the Note 7 disaster and all the hope that rests upon its slick shoulders. Things so far are looking quite promising to be honest and today we have one more detail for you regarding the upcoming smartphone. "Bixby" is possibly going to be the name of the AI virtual assistant that may debut with the Galaxy S8 in 2017. This conclusion was reached after Samsung filed to copyright the name "Bixby" in South Korea just recently. The details regarding the trademark are as follows.

"computer software for personal information management," "computer application software for smartphones, mobile telephones, portable computers and tablet computers, Namely, software used to operate voice recognition system" and "computer software for enabling hands-free use of a mobile phone through voice recognition."

If the details aren't enough to convince you, consider the fact that this news comes hot in the heels of Samsung's acquisition of Viv Labs last month. Viv Labs was closely associated and instrumental in creating Siri, the extremely popular and successful AI digital assistant found on the Apple iPhones. In case you don't agree, what do you think Bixby signifies?

We had been hearing about the connection between Samsung and Qualcomm's next mobile chip, but now we have confirmation and clarity about what exactly is going on between the two behemoths. Samsung and Qualcomm have joined forces in bringing forth the Snapdragon 835 SoC, built on the 10nm FinFET process utilized by Samsung. What this means is, along with producing their very own next-gen Exynos chips, Samsung will also be manufacturing the next Qualcomm Snapdragon flagship chips in 2017.

Interestingly, Qualcomm has decided to name the next SoC as Snapdragon 835, instead of the expected Snapdragon 830 moniker. I am guessing this has been done to mark Qualcomm's shift from the 14nm process to the 10nm process. All of this was unveiled at a press event held in New York City, which was attended by both the parties. In the words of Keith Kressin (Senior VP of Product Management, Qualcomm),

"Using the new 10nm process node is expected to allow our premium tier Snapdragon 835 processor to deliver greater power efficiency and increase performance while also allowing us to add a number of new capabilities that can improve the user experience of tomorrow's mobile devices."

According to a survey conducted by Reuters/Ipsos in all 50 states of the US, the reputation of Samsung as a brand is almost totally intact in the country. It was found that about 27% of the people, who knew about the Note 7’s first and second recall, would still give Samsung devices a fair chance while selecting their next smartphone. Interestingly, it was found that 25% of the people who did not know anything about the issues with the Note 7 would also give Samsung smartphones a chance while picking out their next device. The higher percentages of people who are open towards Samsung devices seem to belong to the group which actually know about Samsung’s embarrassing episode. This clearly shows how unaffected Samsung’s reputation is in the United States.

A more overwhelming response was recorded when 91% of the polled people who are Samsung smartphones users at the moment, voted that they would buy a Samsung again. In fact, according to the final results published by the survey, of all the people who were included in the survey, 92% are very much open to buying a Samsung device.

The following reasons were cited as being behind such a convincing and positive response from the customers in the US by Jan Dawson of Jackdaw Research.

1. An early and timely recall.

2. A very limited number of seriously harmful incidents.

Flip phones were a thing about eight to ten years back when the Moto Razr ruled the smartphone kingdom with a slick design and a sexy fold. Phones have since evolved slowly into small powerhouses with gigantic screens and all sort of sensors on them, but one cannot quite undermine how beautiful and unique the phones looked back then. Samsung however, has not left out the design completely even from its latest smartphones. In fact, there's even a flip phone in China right now (W2017) that's running on Android Marshmallow, sports a Super AMOLED 4.2-inch 1080p touch-enabled display and is powered by a flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset!

Samsung is about to move a step further with a new design for its next flip smartphone, which will resemble any other brick style touch screen Android device in the market, but will also be capable of being folded like a traditional flip phone. The foldable display, assisted by a specialised hinge will make carrying a large-screen phone much more feasible and not to mention, a lot more stylish as well. Take a look at the renders to get an idea of the concept.

We are pretty sure that what we are seeing here is a result of Project Valley, announced back in March, 2015 by Samsung. Could this be the Galaxy X that we had been hearing about just a few months ago?

Saikat Kar (tech-enthusiast)

It was just recently that Samsung decided to sell its entire printing business to HP over a $1 billion+ deal and now it might be looking to do the same with its PC business. If the reports are true, then the most likely buyer would be Lenovo, which has the biggest PC business in the entire world. Although it is still unclear as to how much the deal will cost Lenovo, the estimate is around $850 million, provided that it does go through.

As per the aforementioned report, the Asian giants are having some issues in meeting terms while their respective law firms are engaged in negotiating the deal. Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer is representing Lenovo, while Paul Hastings is doing the same for Samsung. Although Samsung has not confirmed this news yet, we are guessing that this could be another one of the company's moves to slim down its business to concentrate where the money is, rather than losing money over ventures that just did not work for them.

If you are wondering what Bixby is, then you probably do not know about Samsung's upcoming AI powered voice assistant that will probably debut with the Galaxy S8. In fact, Samsung had acquired Viv Labs with the primary intent of developing the AI based digital assistant for its next flagship handset. Viv Labs is responsible for the creation of Apple's voice assistant, Siri. Although the name Bixby isn't official yet, all reports are suggesting that's what it will be called on release.

It remains to be seen how well the new AI assistant stacks up against the likes of Microsoft's Cortana, Google Assistant and of course, Apple's Siri. Nevertheless, many are already calling it the most advanced AI assistant ever to be built for a smartphone. The main reason behind such lofty expectations is of course the fact that it is being developed by Dag Kittlaus, Adam Cheyer and Chris Brigham; the same people who developed Siri for Apple. Judging by how well Apple's voice assistant was implemented and how successful it became in the following years, it isn't unrealistic to expect that they will do something even more impressive with Bixby, given that they now have access to more information and technology than before.

A recent report by Korea Economic Daily states that The Murata Manufacturing Company will be supplying Samsung with a percentage of the batteries which the OEM will need to power the upcoming Galaxy S8. The Japanese company came into limelight in 2016, when it gained control over Sony's battery manufacturing unit. If this report is true, it puts to rest the rumor that LG will be supplying the Galaxy S8 with a percentage of its batteries.

However, the amount of batteries which will (reportedly) be supplied by Murata is not really significant (2% - 8%). Samsung's own battery division (Samsung SDI) will be supplying the S8 with most of its battery packs. Incidentally, Samsung SDI was also responsible for making the first batch of faulty batteries which caused the Galaxy Note 7 to explode in the first place. The production process has since been revamped and improved upon significantly with an investment of $128 million, according to Samsung. Let's just hope that it was enough to prevent any future disasters.

Amihai Neiderman from Equus Software has revealed some very interesting and worrying results about Samsung's propriety OS Tizen. If his findings are true then Tizen has 40 zero-day vulnerabilities, which translates to the OS becoming a hacker's dream. He went on to state that Tizen's security protocols seem like the work of someone who has no grasp over the concept of cyber security at all and added that it is "the worst he'd ever seen."

If this is true then any device currently running on Tizen can be remote hacked by a cyber criminal sitting half-way across the world. This leaves millions of smart TVs, smart watches, smartphones and other Samsung devices running on the OS vulnerable to cyber attacks, thereby causing a mass breach of security across the world. Neiderman adds that Samsung's Bada OS, which the company had discarded long ago, was actually more secure than Tizen, since the old codes from Bada being used by Tizen are still secure. The problem has clearly originated in the last two years since all the vulnerable coding were reportedly done during that period of time. Will Samsung be able to patch this up with security updates? A response from Samsung has not yet been received.

The Project Valley or the Galaxy X is no secret now, especially since rumors have been predicting a release every year for the last few years. Whether or not this is another one of those rumors that doesn't really mean much is something that we will have to wait and find out.

The prototype will not see more than two to three thousand units being manufactured before being released during the first half of the year, according to the report. While that is a remarkably low number for a smartphone to reach public hands, it is quite a high number for a prototype as well. It will possibly be released only to test groups in order to see how the public reacts to the smartphone, before going into mass production with dual-screen devices. The reports of the test or survey will probably determine whether or not most of us will ever see a dual-display touting phone from the Korean giant.

The prototype allegedly has two OLED (Super AMOLED probably) panels that connect with the help of a hinge in-between them. The 180-degree rotation will allow the phone to be carried like a portable smartphone and used like a medium sized tablet. We have heard these things before, so let's just hope it's true this time around.

@OnLeaks and PriceBaba have jointly released a leaked smartphone render which will allegedly be Samsung's first foray into the world of dual camera modules. It isn't the Galaxy Note 8 (which will almost certainly sport a very powerful dual camera module), but instead, it's the rumoured Galaxy C10 (SM-C9100) and C10 Plus (SM-C9150/SM-C9158). Rumors were already predicting that Samsung might expand their Galaxy C line-up further with the C10, but this almost confirms it, given the reliable reputation of the leakster.

The fingerprint sensor seems to be at the front of the device, along with the traditional Home button. The dual camera is of course the highlight of the render, which seems to be in a landscape arrangement; that is one above the other, instead of being side-by-side. Other features seem pretty standard with an USB Type-C port, a headphone jack, loudspeaker, microphone, volume rockers and a power button. Interestingly enough, we are also seeing the Bixby button, but we will have to wait and see if Samsung actually decides to stick with it. You will find the video and the images in the article and after you have taken a good look, do let us know what your thoughts are.

The rumors are out and about in full stretch regarding the Galaxy Note 8 and by now, we all have a pretty good idea about how the upcoming stylus wielding device from Samsung is going to look like. However, they are all mostly based on rumors and the excellent concepts that we have seen so far are after all, just unofficial concepts. As if to give credence to what we have seen so far, Samsung Exynos has just Twitted an image that might be teasing the Galaxy Note 8 itself!

The Exynos 9-series chip advertised here is accompanied by a smartphone which looks suspiciously like the Galaxy Note 8 renders and leaks that we have seen so far on the internet. You could argue that it's the Galaxy S8+ that we are seeing here, but I would disagree because of the following reasons.

1. Since it doesn't even have any buttons on the side, it is most obviously a mockup and if they wanted to accompany the Exynos 9 chip with an image of the S8+, they wouldn't need to make a mockup of the device since it is already out and about.

2. The top bezel looks even thinner than that of the Galaxy S8+

Do you think that Samsung has just teased us with our first look at the Galaxy Note 8? Let us know in the comments.

Although the Galaxy Note 8 was Samsung's first dual camera smartphone, it most certainly won't be the last. In fact, you should see many models by 2018 which will sport similar optics. However, the only other known smartphone which will likely join the Note 8 in being equipped with two rear cameras in the near future is the Galaxy J7+. It's a slightly enhanced version of the regular Galaxy J7 (2017) if you didn't know that yet.

The photos you see above are allegedly, of the upcoming Galaxy J7+ and it comes to us via a leak on the famous Chinese social networking site Weibo. While we do have a clear idea about the smartphone's specs and these images reveal the rest to us, it is not clear as to when Samsung will be releasing this model. In case you are looking for a low-mid range Samsung smartphone with good imaging capabilities, the J7+ might be a good choice! However, there is no news as to whether or not it will be released in any other markets outside of China.

Saikat Kar (tech-enthusiast)

We now know that the Galaxy Note 9 will be unveiled at a Samsung Unpacked event in New York on the 9th of August, which makes it the perfect time for the company to be releasing a video teaser and Samsung did just that.

You can see the video for yourself on top, so we are skipping the part where I go through every scene in the 30-second clip! However, what was made obvious with the teaser is the fact that the Galaxy Note 9 will sport better life. Whether that improvement in battery performance will come in the form of better battery management or a significantly bigger battery is something that we will just have to wait and find out. Hopefully, it will be a combination of both, without any of the fiery issues which accompanied the infamous Galaxy Note 7 back in 2016! In any case, I could definitely use a bigger battery, since my S8 now needs to be charged twice a day, everyday after just a year.

foldable-smartphone-samsung

After years of speculations, rumors, leaks and anticipation, the Korean giant has finally provided a look at their first foldable smartphone prototype during the SDC, as expected. Google is already developing apps for the foldable design and for all intents and purposes, this is what the next step in the evolution of smartphones is going to be. Take a look at the following points to know everything that was revealed during the conference and press meet.

Galaxy X or Galaxy F?

While nothing was mentioned regarding the name of the device, it's probably going to be named Galaxy X, which will likely replace the current-gen Galaxy S9 on the eve of the flagship line-up's tenth anniversary next year.

The Foldable Display

There will possibly be the same 4.5-inch/7.3-inch form factor in the final device as well. In case you are not clear on that, consider it to be an in-folding device (Infinity Flex Display) that has one external 4.5-inch display, which will be active while the phone is closed and you want it to be portable. The main display inside is a massive, foldable panel (7.3-inch) that turns the phone into a small tablet, when required. As Samsung has mentioned that there will be support for three separate apps at the same time, it is probable that the 7.3-inch display will be able to function as two separate ones by separating from the middle (the folding line).

Availability

Availability of the phone wasn't confirmed but Samsung did mention that they will go into mass production in the coming months, which means that we will most likely see the device in 2019, which is especially likely if this technology is meant to be used in the Galaxy S10 (likely to be called Galaxy X).

Price

This is anybody's guess really at this point, but expect nothing short of a premium price tag on the device when it comes out and that price tag will most certainly be at least $1,200 - $1,500.

samsung-foldable-phone

Samsung was beaten to the punch by the Rouyu FlexiPai which was showcased just a week ago, but the FlexiPai sported an out-folding design while the prototype by Samsung is clearly an in-folding phone. The likes of LG, Lenovo, Xiaomi, Huawei and even Microsoft are also working on bringing flexible displays to the market in 2019, so it does look like the next big step in display tech evolution since the flat-screen revolution is finally here.

Just as expected for months, Samsung has finally released a new 8-inch tablet in a market that hardly has any customers who are looking for Android tablets! The model number on the new Galaxy tab A is SM-P205, just as reported by SamMobile months ago.

The 8-inch Galaxy Tab A has support for the S-Pen and is named "Galaxy Tab A with S Pen 8.0" apparently, which is as straightforward as it comes! Check out some of the key specs of the device below.

·        8-inch 1920×1200 LCD display

·        Exynos 7904 SoC

·        3GB RAM

·        32GB internal storage with expandable external storage

·        8-mp rear camera and 5-mp selfie cam

·        4,200mAh battery

·        IP68 water and dust resistance rating

·        Older generation S-Pen (slides into the tablet)

·        Will likely come in black and grey

What do you think of the device? Do you think it's worth a look once Samsung announces the price?

samsung-100-inch-8k-tv-india-2019

Samsung has just launched its 2019 range of 8K QLED TVs in India and Twinkle Khanna was also there during the presentation for some unknown reason. Now the question is, should you shell out around 60 lakh rupees (roughly USD 86,500) for the 98-inch model? Well, if you are considering it, you might as well go ahead because that is not a sum which probably matters to you anyway!

If you find it to be too pricey though, don't worry, because Samsung has you covered with the more affordable 82-inch model for just INR 17 lakhs (roughly USD 24,500) and the borderline cheap 75-inch 8K QLED TV for only INR 11 lakhs (USD 16,000 roughly). If you did not get the sarcasm yet, you are way too rich or serious for reading this article I am afraid!

If the price on the 8K TV sets made you feel poor, don't worry about it, they are not meant for you or me. Even to those that can afford it though, I would personally recommend staying away from 8K right now and going with the Q90 65-inch (INR 4 lakhs/USD 5,770). Although you will be paying roughly twice the price which customers in the US have to, your expense will be well worth it (kind of and not really)!

Galaxy fold z

Samsung Galaxy Fold was one of the foldable and had some doubts in the consumer's mind about the whole foldable thing. Despite the device went for sale and the figures were okay, there was something about the phone that people didn't like. It could be its weight, fragile screen, or big screen that made some people uncomfortable while making calls. The Galaxy Z flip is different though. It becomes a normal size phone when folds and expands into a mini-tablet. The Z flip is compact and fits perfectly in a pocket. At the same time, Samsung introduced a screen covering that is much more resistant to damage while using daily, with hinge improvements that seem more durable than its predecessor's design.

Samsung seems to be proud of its latest display design on the Galaxy Z flip, or display covering to be accurate. The device screen is covered with glass and not with plastic. After using the fold some people didn't like its display, so Samsung decided to improve the screen this time. The only problem here is that the display covering is more fragile than the Gorilla Glass 6 on a Galaxy S10. But this screen covering can also fold in half. If you can't handle a phone that is still in the experimental phase and has some fragile aspects, you should consider buying a Galaxy S20 instead.

Samsung also experimented with the software and Android 10 One UI 2. It's just a Galaxy S10 feeling when opened. Samsung did some interesting things by using the multi-window interface on the Fold. The flex model view options on the Z flip allow you to bend the phone to a roughly 90-degree angle and have a split view on the vertical and horizontal space. Flex mode works with only a few apps lie the camera, gallery app, Duo video calls, and the always-on display clock mode. The z flip has had YouTube working in flex mode, but that wasn't on my retail unit.

We now have the official reports from market research firm TrendForce on our hands and it reveals the smartphone food chain around the world, based on the second quarter of 2016. The first thing that we noticed is that Samsung's plans for global domination continue to be a success with a market share of 24.5% internationally! Apple is in the second place of course with 15.1%, but the huge difference between the two giants does tell a story. Chinese OEM Huawei comes in at the third spot with 9.2% market share, leaving behind the likes of LG (5.4%) and Oppo (5.6%).

China is the world's biggest market for smartphones and it is being led by none other Huawei once again, with an amazing 20.8% of the total market share. Oppo (12.7%), Vivo (10.6%), Lenovo (10.3%) and Xiaomi (10%) followed respectively from there on. As you can see, the competition is really tight from the third spot onwards with virtually nothing separating the competitors from each other. In addition to Samsung's continuing domination over the global smartphone market, one should notice that the Chinese manufacturers are rapidly rising with each passing quarter, especially Huawei.

The beta version of Samsung's Android Nougat 7.0 based firmware for the S7 and S7 Edge went live on select devices in China, South Korea, the UK and the US about a week ago and some of them have even started to receive the second build by now. The good news is, Samsung could also be extending the program to other countries as well, according to a report by SamMobile.

In what was a conversation between a Samsung Philippine's Customer Support executive and one of the aforementioned site's readers, it was indicated that Philippines could be next in line to receive the opportunity to test out pre-release versions of the Android 7.0 based firmware on the Galaxy S7/S7 Edge. While this little piece of info only concerns the devices in Philippines, we cannot help but feel that it could also be applicable to other regions as well, albeit a while later.

Nevertheless, this chat is far from being "proof" to the fact that the Beta program will be extended to Philippines, let alone other regions. In case it does prove to be so, rest assured that we will let you know as it happens.

It has been just a week or so since the first build of the beta went live for the S7 and S7 Edge in Europe and they have already released the second build in Europe! This package will come to the eligible smartphones as an OTA update, just like the first build. The changes that the 92MB file brings to the basic build are mainly improvements in stability, performance and minor bug fixes, rather than any significant new features that are worth mentioning.

Incidentally, today also marks the date when the first version of the Nougat beta build went live in China for eligible users of the Galaxy Beta Program. South Korea is yet to receive the second build from Samsung, even though it was the first country to receive the initial beta build. Nevertheless, irrespective of your device's location, if it has been selected for the Galaxy Beta Program, all builds of the beta Nougat program will come to your S7 or S7 Edge eventually.

Samsung has officially confirmed that the Galaxy Beta Program which they had launched earlier in the year will be over by the end of the day. This confirms a report which was circulating on Weibo since yesterday. The confirmation was found in a Beta Notice which reads the following.

"Galaxy Beta programme is ending. (Dec.30 24:00)
Dear customers,
Galaxy Beta programme will end on 12/30 by 24:00 PM.
We would like to thank you for the interest and affection shown during this time, We will try to apply most of the useful opinions shared by all of you in official Nougat OS version.
After the end of Beta programme
-There will be no new Beta version release.
-There will be no individual feedback related to 'Error report' & 'Suggestion' and there is a plan to manage it via "community" only.
We would do our best to distribute the official version in January as soon as possible.
Thanks for all your support during this time and wish you all a very happy and prosperous new year.
Happy New Year ~~
Galaxy Beta Programme Team"

If things go as Samsung has it planned, then the final build of the Android Nougat OS will start rolling out to the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge by January, 2017. The good news is that the Nougat firmware updates for the two flagships will be based on the latest Android v7.1.1. Were you a part of the Beta program? If you were, what changes are you waiting to see in the final build?

In case you own a Galaxy S8 or S8 Plus, we have good news for you because the much awaited Bixby Voice update is now reaching the two smartphones across the entire world! Samsung has made it official that starting today, 200+ countries all around the world will be receiving Bixby Voice; a service that was lacking in the AI assistant up until now, in spite of being heavily advertised prior to its launch.

No new languages have been added to the voice capabilities of Bixby for now, so we will only be able to use it either in Korean or US English. We are hopeful (so is Samsung) that the language support will expand widely with time, but this is how things stand at this moment. Nevertheless, the support for English will make the assistant useable in most countries. Do you think this global launch of Bixby has anything to do with the Galaxy Note 8 being launched tomorrow? Of course it does! After launching one flagship smartphone without its hyped AI assistant's main functionality, Samsung was not going to make the same mistake again. We will now be waiting for the Note 8's first official appearance tomorrow. Stay tuned for more on that.

The Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge and Galaxy Note 5 just got updated to the latest security patch from Google on Verizon. While it would be last month's patch in just a few more hours, it's good news that Verizon at least managed to push it out on the last day of the month. This almost covers the entire 2015 flagship line-up from Samsung except the Galaxy S6 Edge+ but it could also be getting the same patch anytime now.

Aside from fixes for 61 vulnerabilities and bugs in the base Android operating system, the update will also patch the infamous KRACK Wi-Fi susceptibility which had been bugging Samsung devices  since early November. Additionally, there are also fixes for six problems in Samsung's own UI which runs on top of the Android OS. If you have already received the update, do let us know if you find something we missed. If it isn't there yet, it will be in a couple of days at most.

Just like the OEM has been doing for the last few months, March saw Samsung rolling out the security update of the month to certain low and mid-range handsets first, but now it's time for some of the higher end models to get the same treatment as well. As per reports by SamMobile, the Galaxy Note 8, the Galaxy A7 (2017) and the Galaxy S7 are the latest handsets in Samsung's arsenal to get the March security update via OTA.

If you own a Note 8, you should see your update arrive in the form of firmware version N950NKSU3CRC2. As for the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy A7 (2017), firmware versions G930FXXS2DRC3 and A720FXXU3BRC2 should be making their way onto the two devices. While this means that all major regions should start receiving the same updates pretty soon, South Africa is so far the only place to get the same for the A7 (2017). Samsung had already started rolling out the March security update for the Note 8 in most regions and now South Korea has joined in. The S7 is receiving the patch in Europe at the moment.

Although Samsung has already started releasing the April security update to one of its low-end handsets even before Google's official declaration of the patch, not all of Samsung's handsets have been updated with the patch for this month yet. Nevertheless, the company is steadily doing so and the Galaxy C7 Pro, Galaxy A8+ (2018) and the Galaxy S7 Edge were the latest models to receive the update.

If you own a Galaxy S7 Edge in Europe, you should see firmware version G935FXXS2DRC3 make its way onto your phone anytime now. Since the Galaxy C7 Pro was released only to very limited markets, India has been reported to be the only nation as of now to get the same patch in the form of firmware version C701FDDU1BRC2. Strangely enough, the Galaxy A8+ (2018) is not being updated as regularly as its smaller counterpart, aka the Galaxy A8 (2018). Nevertheless, the model is now receiving firmware version A730FXXU2ARC9 with the March security update in Russia and Uzbekistan.
