The beta version of the Chrome browser often brings unique features to its Android users and this time around, they have introduced something that is sure to become an instant fan favourite. If you update your Chrome Beta to the latest version 54, it will now be able to play YouTube in the background. Prior to the update, videos would pause the moment you exited the app, like it does on most browsers. Post the update, a play/pause button will appear in your notifications panel on exiting the Chrome Beta browser, which you can then use to continue playing the video in the background, while accessing other apps on your device. Needless to say, users who largely listen to audio content on YouTube will particularly appreciate this feature.

If you are streaming music from a website on the Chrome Beta Browser, it will continue to play in the background on exiting, just like a dedicated music streaming application. Even though this is exciting news, there's a high chance that this feature will be excluded in the next update unfortunately. Let's not forget that playing videos in the background is a feature of YouTube Red, which is a paid subscription based service. As this free feature makes paying for the same thing on the YouTube app unnecessary and both are owned by Google... you can do the math.

Paramount Pictures has launched an official, verified YouTube channel - called The Paramount Vault - where you can watch full length films for free [if you're based in the US].

So if you don't have a netflix account and find yourself bored and nothing to do, maybe head over to the The Paramount Vault Youtube Channel and watch some free movies.

Understandably, the channel isn't exactly chock full of recent hottest movies, those you will still have to pay to rent those online, but there are plenty of hidden gems in the collection. Spend a few minutes scrolling through one of the genre playlists and you might stumble upon something that looks interesting.

Evan Blass has leaked another image of the Galaxy S8 today on Twitter, which could be the upcoming press release render for the smartphone. The render even has the date on the phone displaying March 29, Wednesday; the official launch date for the two smartphones. From what we can see, it seems that this time around Samsung may launch the Pearl Black color variant right from the start, instead of waiting like it did with the S7 Edge last year. Whether this is the S8 or the S8+, is a bit hard to discern since both devices look essentially the same this year with their curved edge-to-edge displays.

Additionally, we have a leaked video for you as well from Slashleaks on YouTube, which clearly shows the S8 and the S8+ in action. However, the quality of the video is quite bad, as is the camerawork itself. Nevertheless, they do give us a look at the two devices and is worth checking out. If you want a much shorter but high quality video showing off the S8, check it here.

YouTube Music

Looks like Google will be launching a New YouTube Music service very soon. Screenshots of an upcoming version of YouTube App for Android has been leaked.

YouTube Music services

According to the source, YouTube Music Key is on the way soon and will bring many of the features that we have been expecting, like offline playback and more. The service will be ad-free, and it will allow for audio-only playback, offline playback, infinite YouTube mixes, and complete albums; but, this is still YouTube, so there are some interesting video features as well.

YouTube

The images of the updated app claim there will be "over 20 million high-quality tracks complete albums, organized into artist discographies" as part of Music Key. And, since this is YouTube, you'll also get access to watch concerts, covers, and remixes.

YouTube Music

The YouTube Music Key service will cost $9.99 per month after a one-month free trial, and maybe the best part is that it will include a subscription for Google Play Music Key. Presumably, if you already have a Google Play Music All Access account, you will automatically get the YouTube Music Key subscription, but it is unclear if those who got the initial promotional rate of $7.99 will keep paying that price.

The YouTube much anticipated subscription music streaming service from Google has been officially announced today. It's called YouTube Music Key (BETA), and it will be in beta for an unspecified amount of time.

It brings you an ad-free YouTube experience, along with support for background playback on mobile, and offline viewing too.

nexus

All of these perks will cost you $7.99 (for a limited time, the normal price being $9.99) per month. But the nice thing is that if you pay for Music Key, you'll also get a Google Play Music subscription, which gives you access to more than 30 million songs and expert-curated playlists. That in itself costs $9.99 per month, so you're essentially getting two services for the price of one here.

"You've asked us for ways to listen to music without ads, to keep playing music videos even if you lock the screen or start using another app, and to play music even if you're not connected to the Internet. That's why today we're introducing YouTube Music Key beta, a monthly subscription service starting with the promotional price of $7.99/month (discounted from $9.99/month) that will give you all that-ads-free music, background play and offline viewing. It will also include a subscription to Google Play Music, with 30+ million songs, expert-curated playlists, and in the coming days, the ability to watch many YouTube official music videos right from the app." - Official YouTube Blog

Google announced that YouTube for Android will now support 360 degree videos. To do this, Google met with the manufacturers of 360 degree movie cameras such as Bublcam, Giroptic's 360cam, IC Real Tech's Allie, Kodak's SP360 and RICOH THETA. The purpose of these get togethers was to make sure that YouTube would be able to play such videos made with their cameras. For now, those shooting 360 degree videos will have to include a script that will allow YouTube to upload the video with the correct metadata. In the future, Google hopes to have this done automatically.

With the update to YouTube for Android, users can move their phone or tablet around while a 360 degree video plays, in order to catch all of the different angles on the screen.

"People can watch your videos on the existing YouTube app for Android, and by moving the phone or tablet around they'll see all the different angles while the video plays. They can do the same on YouTube.com or embedded videos on Chrome by using the mouse to drag the point of view around, and we're working to bring this to iPhone, iPad and other devices soon." - YouTube

If you watch a lot of YouTube on your phone or tablet, you might be getting sick of the ads that often run before the video you want to see. If you've ever said to yourself that you would pay serious money in order to get rid of the commercials, YouTube is going to give you that opportunity. In an email to its content providers, the video streamer explains that it will soon start allowing users to pay a monthly subscription fee for ad-free access to YouTube.

The email from YouTube also explains how content providers will receive a share of the revenue that YouTube collects from this monthly fee. Right now, there is no word on how much YouTube will seek each month for a subscription to its ad-free service. This is hardly new since many free ad-supported apps offer a premium paid version that eliminates ads.

YouTube has been making some changes with the most recent being the introduction of YouTube for Kids. In less than a month, the "safe" version of YouTube has been installed more than 2 million times.

Google has just updated its YouTube App for Android to version 5.5, There are considerable UI tweaks that appear to represent a move toward higher information density, and an effort to put things where users will find them more naturally. The updated app has a previously unseen "dogfood" settings screen with a few options related to "ExoPlayer."

User pages in the new update have been revamped from a series of cards to one giant card on the "Videos," "Playlists," and new "Channels" tabs. The information has been condensed a la Newsstand's mini cards to allow users to see more content at once. See below for a comparison old screenshots on top, new on the bottom.

Users now can reply to or report comments now, easily toggle between HD and SD video quality, flagging video, view information, thumbs-up, share, or delete playlists from the playlist overview page. Of course, you can only delete a playlist that is your own.

Youtube Offline

YouTube App for Android was supposed to get an offline Playback Mode. However, Google decided NOT to include this feature on the latest update, even if it already submitted some screenshots to the App's Play Store listing includes an "Offline" tab on the navigation menu.

The "Offline" section for YouTube will download and cache any video to watch it offline anytime or anywhere you don't have an internet connection available. Seeing these official screenshots on the play store means that the update is coming very soon and it may got delayed due to a bug or an issue. Stay tuned for the next update for the YouTube App.

You don't always have an internet connection with you all the time, but you want to be able to watch your favorite YouTube videos at the same time, Offline Playback is a long-rumored feature that finally came true. Google announced that YouTube fans in India will be able to save video clips for offline viewing as a part of the Android One initiative.

youtube

It might be long overdue, but it seems that this functionality is now a go, as numerous reports claim that YouTube users in certain regions can save videos for later viewing, when there's no internet connectivity at hand. The supported regions are India and, reportedly, the Philippines.

youtube

Numerous reports suggest that this feature is location-based and is not part of a update for the Android and iOS versions of YouTube. Provided that you are in said regions, an icon will appear in the info section of any given YouTube video. you can also choose the video's quality. After you've downloaded a clip, it will be available for up to 48 hours in a dedicated section inside the app. There's no word when this feature will roll-out for YouTube' users outside the supported regions, mind you.

Google is currently rolling-out a new Material Design Menu User Interface to the YouTube for Android. The change sees YouTube's hamburger menu removed right out of the interface, going the way of Google+ in discarding the left-side navigation drawer.

Google is slowly changing the Interface of the YouTube App to fit with other stocks apps on the Play Store. Instead, users are given four primary tabs Home, Trending, Subscriptions, and your profile. Interestingly, a couple of these tabs seem to have bars underneath to switch from, say, all videos to music on the home tab, or from uploads to channels on the subscription tab. Besides these changes, things are ostensibly working just like before.

A YouTube channel named kk 低调 has just released a video on YouTube that apparently contains live shot footage of the upcoming iPhone 7 Plus or iPhone 7 Pro, whatever Apple chooses to call this one. The video spans for only 8 seconds unfortunately, but the quality of the video is really good and we urge you to take a look yourself, if you are interested in seeing the upcoming Apple flagship devices before time of course.

We can clearly see the iPhone 7 in three colors in this video and they are grey, rose gold and silver. More interestingly, the iPhone 7 Plus seems to be sporting the rumoured dual camera setup as expected. In order to ensure that viewers know that they are looking at the bigger iPhone 7 and not the regular version, we can see the regular iPhone 7 neatly placed on top of the three bigger iPhones just for good measure! This proves that there will indeed be at least two versions of the iPhone 7 this year. Whether or not this is the Plus version or the Pro version, or if there even will be a Pro version of the iPhone 7 this year are all shrouded in rumors and mystery right now.

Google has been testing its YouTube Gaming platform since announcing it back in June. It promised a summer 2015 release for its Twitch competitor, and it is living up to it. The big day for YouTube Gaming is TODAY...

Youtube gaming

Video is nothing new on Facebook, but it could be a dedicated feature in the future. Facebook's testing a special feed to help users see only the videos posted from friends, viral videos or those from liked pages. It's like a personalized YouTube without leaving Facebook.

Some users are seeing a dedicated video tab in the normal Messenger shortcut. The tab isn't available in Android, but Facebook has stated the new suggested videos feature already on iOS should hit Android soon.

It's obvious Facebook is serious about videos and competing with YouTube. They've already rolled out features such as celebrity live streaming, 360 degree VR videos and more advanced creator tools. The new push for videos is just Facebook's way to make it your one stop destination while online. Of course, spending more time on the site equals more revenue from ads for them.
