Best gaming phone 2021

When you are playing the slots or a table game, you want the best display, sound and connectivity possible. Indeed, if you are going to use your phone as a gaming console as well as a connectivity device, you need to select the phone that will give you the most exciting and reliable experience. Here we offer a review of some of the best gaming phones of 2021 - mostly cause we need something to keep us sane with all the restrictions on how we can have fun.

Nubia Red Magic 5G

The Nubia Red Magic 5G is designed specifically for gaming. It was released in March 2020 and comes with triggers, which makes it super easy to access and play some of the top titles. As it is meant for gaming, there is a massive amount of data storage, up to 256GB should you wish. The 144Hz display is ideal for gaming too, giving it a silky smooth refresh rate.

Not only are the display and controls perfect for gaming but there is also enhanced cooling, so the handset doesn't overheat and a 4D shock feature that adds vibration.

However, for other phone use such as watching videos and taking photographs, this is not the greatest phone in the world. Also, there have been some problematic software bugs that have put some people off.

Asus ROG Phone 3

A PC manufacturer is always going to have an eye on the gaming market. When starting the design of this phone, the developers were told it was for gamers. Therefore, there is up 512GB of storage, a 6 inch plus screen size, amazing battery life and 144Hz AMOLED screen - meaning the refresh rate is astonishingly good.

There are features on this phone that you wouldn't find on your standard Smart device. There is a clip-on fan in the box, for instance, to keep the heat down. There are also gaming modes, such as AirTriggers and more.

This is not a Smart Phone as such, as there are key features missing you expect, such as being water resistant and having wireless charging. However, there is enough of a phone for those who really wanted a handheld gaming device anyway.

Black Shark 3

The best thing about this phone is the high end spec for the reasonable price. Other phones designed for gaming come in close to a grand. This phone is still north of £700 but you get a lot for the amount. There is the 256GB of storage and the 6.67 inch screen, there is the 90Hz refresh rate - which is lower than other phones but still more than enough to deal with the games you might play.

The bonus of the Black Shark 3 is the camera, which is effective even in low-light settings. Therefore, it works beyond its role as a handheld gaming device - which other phones have failed to do. The design of the phone is pretty amazing too.

Razer Phone 2

The Razer Phone 2 is definitely a smart phone with gaming capabilities. It was an early attempt at offering a gaming specific phone and so has some issues, such as a smaller than average scheme and low minimum storage considering the price. The update from 1 to 2 that looked to address these issues then reduced the capability of the camera and display that you get from other phones of a similar price.

However, the specs are impressive, with a 120Hz refresh rate display and a logo on the back that glows in millions of RGB hues.

Non-gaming phones and gaming

What if you don't want to buy a gaming specific phone? What if you want a great phone that just happens to be excellent for playing games?

Non-gaming phones and gaming

It is unsurprising that the iPhone 12 Pro is a great all-round phone - albeit for £999. So, if you are willing to pay the high price, you get access to the best games ecosystem on the market and the most amazing screen resolution for gaming. Apple Arcade now offers a Netflix-style library of options. It is 5G ready too, which means when this comes on line, the quality of the gaming experience will increase exponentially.

If you are not keen on parting with a grand for a phone, then you might want to try OnePlus 8 Pro. 5G and with plenty of power, this phone has one of the best displays around. The problem? The storage is quite low.
