Toilets & Apps are an easy sources of humor, but in Japan, they take their toilets seriously. In most Japanese households you will find either a Toto or INAX commode that will heat the seat, spray warm water to rinse, and blow warm air to help dry things off... cool huh?

Knowing how technologically affluent Japan is, it was only a matter of time before we would witness the onset of a smartphone app and a compatible toilet to do our bidding via that App. The app does everything from raising the lid, to controlling the bidet or monitoring energy and water consumption.

The INAX "Satis" is a fully featured toilet that also has built in speakers so you can play music to foster your imagination while sitting on the "throne of thought." The Android app, "My Satis" connects via Bluetooth and in addition to controlling all the toilet functions it will also establish a diary of activity which may actually be handy in monitoring one's health.

This INAX toilet cost around $4,500 and the App is available only in japanese, sadly.

FireFox

You may know that Mozilla is working on its own Mobile Operating System based fully on HTML5. Today, Mozilla release a Simulator for its Firefox OS to allow developers to run & test their HTML5 Apps on it. The developers have also updated the browser's Nightly channel with a release needed to allow individual private browsing tabs.

The Firefox OS Simulator extension is rather hefty in size at nearly 70MB and aims to allow developers to test their HTML5 apps before the OS makes its debut next year. You can check the simulator Demo video below.

Contact lense

Ghent University's centre of microsystems technology has developed a spherical curved LCD display which can be embedded in contact lenses and handle projected images and text messages using wireless technology.

The fundamental technology behind this concept already existed to a certain extent, but the researchers at the university's Center of Microsystems Technology have been able to take it a step further and allow use of the whole surface of the curved lens. "Now that we have established the basic technology, we can start working towards real applications, possibly available in only a few years," according to Professor Herbert De Smet. That is an impressive, if ambitious, prediction.

However, at the rate that technology has been advancing, we are not going to contest that objective at all. Video below
