Samsung has made it official today that the company expects to lose over $3 billion (3.5 trillion WON) during the remainder of this year and the first quarter of the next. However, the South Korean electronics giant is hopeful that it will get back on its feet from the second quarter of 2017. As you can guess, that expectation is largely based on the success of the Galaxy S8, which will be released around that time.

Q4 2016 alone is estimated to cost Samsung a whopping $2.2 billion dollars in losses. Things will brighten up a bit in Q1 2017, as Samsung will expectedly see a less daunting drop in profits with a loss of $800 million. Now that the Note 7 is gone for good, they will be manufacturing and marketing the S7 and S7 Edge with renewed vigor to make up for at least some of the losses.

What remains to be seen is how much the Note 7 incident will affect the Samsung name as a trusted brand. To focus on this point in particular, it was stated at the end of the report that the company will prioritize, "enhancing product safety for consumers by making significant changes in its quality assurance processes."

The tragic early death of the Note 7 might have left you with the yearning for a device that natively supports stylus input and Samsung plans to fill that hole with a Chromebook laptop which supports the S-Pen. Even though the new stylus looks exactly like the S-Pen we saw on the Note 7, this one is just called the "PEN."

The Chromebook Pro features a 2,400 × 1600 pixels resolution display presented in a 3:2 aspect ratio. The 12.3-inch, 360-degree rotating touch sensitive display can be rotated all the way back to be used as a large tablet as well. We are sure that it offers similar, if not better pressure sensitivity via the PEN, as compared to what we saw on the Note 7.

Under the hood, the Samsung Chromebook Pro is powered by two Cortex A72 cores and four Cortex A53 cores, which make up the 64-bit hexa-core CPU. There are also 4 gigs of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, a micro-SD card slot and even two USB Type-C ports. The lightweight (1kg) laptop/tablet hybrid is available for pre-order at a price of $499. Will you be ordering one?

It seems only yesterday that the Galaxy Note 7 was launched, but it's literally history now as the continuing hazardous nature of the smartphone resulted in its discontinuation and a complete recall by Samsung. Nevertheless, we have good news for Samsung fans as the Galaxy S8 is coming and it's coming fast. Work on firmware of the upcoming Galaxy S8 has already started, as reported by SamMobile.

If you were expecting to see the Galaxy S8 earlier due to the failure of the Note 7, it may not be the case. While there is no way to be sure about this, it is true that software development started at around the same time for the S7 in 2015 as well. If Samsung sticks to the expected release date in February at the Mobile World Congress next year, we think it would actually be a better move than releasing an incomplete device early, just to fill the gap that the Note 7 left in the market for Samsung. Besides, rumor has it that releasing the Note 7 in a hurry in order to compete with the iPhone 7 is what led to the following disaster in the first place.

As you probably know already, the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 is dead and chances of the smartphone ever resurfacing are almost none. However, Samsung would like to keep their customers from going elsewhere and that is exactly why they are offering $100 to all Note 7 customers who are willing to switch over to another Samsung smartphone, rather than leaving the brand completely or asking for a full refund. The extra $100 will be given to the customer via bill credit. Although this incentive is only available to the customers in the US at the moment, Samsung is expected to extend similar offers to other regions as well.

Here's the official statement by Samsung, "As a sign of our appreciation for your patience and loyalty, we are offering up to a $100 bill credit from select carrier or retail outlets if you exchange your Galaxy Note 7 for another Samsung smartphone, less any incentive credits already received."

Just in case you want nothing to do with Samsung smartphones for a while, most retailers and carriers will give you your money back, along with a $25 bonus. If you plan to switch to a different brand, you will still get a $25 bonus from most of them. Please note that if you had already exchanged your Note 7 when the first recall was initiated, the $25 bonus which you received then will be subtracted in all three scenarios.
