Latest News - / Apple - Posts

This is a hot week for smartphones as the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 just came out two days ago and we already have a video of the actual iPhone 7 for the first time. Apple fans have a pretty good idea about what to expect from the upcoming iPhones, thanks to a myriad of leaks and rumors, but now we have an actual live action video of the Apple iPhone 7, courtesy of TechTastic on YouTube, even though it is probably the property of GeekBar. The video actually confirms what we saw earlier with the mock-ups built from Foxconn schematics. The iPhone 7 prototype looks exactly the same as it did in those pictures.

If you are excited about the upcoming flagship, you will just need to wait for about a month more for its official unveiling, which would be either on September 6 or 7 according to sources. The iPhone 7 will go on sale from from September 16, but pre-orders will probably start on September 9. You will be able to own the 32GB version for $649, the 128GB version for $749 and the 256GB version for $849. For more on the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, stay tuned.

A YouTube channel named kk 低调 has just released a video on YouTube that apparently contains live shot footage of the upcoming iPhone 7 Plus or iPhone 7 Pro, whatever Apple chooses to call this one. The video spans for only 8 seconds unfortunately, but the quality of the video is really good and we urge you to take a look yourself, if you are interested in seeing the upcoming Apple flagship devices before time of course.

We can clearly see the iPhone 7 in three colors in this video and they are grey, rose gold and silver. More interestingly, the iPhone 7 Plus seems to be sporting the rumoured dual camera setup as expected. In order to ensure that viewers know that they are looking at the bigger iPhone 7 and not the regular version, we can see the regular iPhone 7 neatly placed on top of the three bigger iPhones just for good measure! This proves that there will indeed be at least two versions of the iPhone 7 this year. Whether or not this is the Plus version or the Pro version, or if there even will be a Pro version of the iPhone 7 this year are all shrouded in rumors and mystery right now.

With the iPhone 7 due to be released in September 2016, speculation continues to mount over its new features. While some have suggested that demand for the new model will be low due to lack of innovation, the figures from Business Insider show that ‘demand for the iPhone 7 is healthy'. While Apple has yet to settle on the finished design, we can be pretty sure of a few things...

What's likely to be different?

Headphone jack

One of the major talking points over the last year has been the lack of a headphone socket. This will mean that headphones will connect to the phone via Bluetooth or through its Lightning port. This caused uproar in some circles last year yet insiders have said that a 3.5mm adaptor will be included in the box.

Camera

Rumours surrounding the new camera include the use of dual lenses and enhanced performance in low-light conditions. It is also expected to be upgraded from 8 megapixels to 12 megapixels.

Antenna bands, earpiece cut-outs and light sensor

The antenna bands across the back of the device have reportedly been removed. Meanwhile the earpiece cut-outs are now longer and the ambient light sensor has been moved; presumably as a means to improving performance in low light.

Storage Space

The latest inside news is that Apple will be favouring the 32GB storage option in their most basic model - if true, this seemingly puts an end to the 16GB predecessors that may now struggle given the recent development in app quality.

In fact, a 256GB version, the first of its kind on the iOS platform, has been suggested by technology specialists TrendForce. Perhaps overkill, the space will certainly allow for multiple high-graphic options such as the notorious Disney Infinity 3.0 at 2.26GB.

Combined with the essential movie archive, personal music discography or just your favourite iGaming apps, the iPhone 7 isn't likely to struggle. Indeed, catching the latest Pokémon or playing online bingo directly on your phone should be a breeze come its release later this year.

Processors

Experts expect the iPhone 7 to use next-generation A10 processors from TSMC. In terms of internal storage, entry-level handsets will start at 32GB instead of 16GB.

Size

The new model is expected to be 1mm thinner than the iPhone 6, but at 5.5 inches it will be the same size as the 6s. Apple may indeed be wary of making the product thinner due to the negative press they received over the iPhone 6 in 2014. There were several reports of the inerrant ‘bend problem' which the manufacturer will be keen to quash in its new product.

Name

There are some rumours that Apple will dispense with numerical ordering and refer to the new model as the iPhone Pro. However, others dispute this.

Home Button

Some photos have emerged of the models without the home button; a staple on every single model so far. The suggestion is that Apple will drop the physical button in favour of an onscreen key. Other images suggest that this rumour is false.

What will stay the same?

Two models

Apple plans to continue releasing two models. Some sources suggest that these will be called the iPhone Pro and iPhone Pro Plus; others say they will named simply iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.

Casing

All rumours suggest the iPhone 7 will look very similar to the iPhone 6, with only minor aesthetic changes.

Screens

Apple plans to stick to the 4.7" and 5.5" screens it uses on the current flagship models. The lower-level model (iPhone 7 or iPhone Pro) will have the smaller screen as standard. The flagship model (iPhone 7 Pro Plus or iPhone 7 Plus) will come with the bigger screen as standard.

Courtesy of @OnLeaks via Twitter, we now have a new rumor about the iPhone 7 and it seems to be a reliable one. It was stated that the iPhone 7 will most likely be powered by a 1,960mAh battery, which is about 14% more powerful than the current gen iPhone 6s's battery (1,715mAh). There is a slight catch though; OnLeaks also mentioned that this is "not 100% but almost..." We would certainly like to see the "almost" part turn out to be true as the iPhone could definitely use the battery boost.

Although this is purely based on assumption, this leads us to believe that if there is an iPhone 7 Plus this year, then it will sport an even bigger battery than the iPhone 6s Plus' 2,750mAh cell. If we said that it too would sport a 14% increase over the iPhone 6s Plus' battery, we would be stretching our imaginations too far though! However, a bigger battery should definitely be on the cards. We will surely find out more as rumors and leaks will continue to surface on the internet before the official release date of the upcoming iPhones in September, 2016.

Martin Hajek has just released some beautiful 3D renders of the iPhone 7 in color and we think that it indeed looks very pretty. Of course, these renders are based on the designer's own interpretation of rumors and leaked renders of the next iPhone, but they are probably as close to the real thing as it can get right now.

Hajek had three things to work with and base his conceptualizations on, and they are as follows.

1. The recently leaked renders and schematics that allegedly pertains to the iPhone 7.

2. The rumor that Apple might not be changing much about the iPhone 7 in terms of design, thus sticking to the same basic design elements as seen with the iPhone 6s.

3. The American OEM might be retiring the Space Grey color variant and could be replacing it with a shade of blue.

The results are gorgeous and he even managed to do a photo comparison with the Space Grey iPhone 6s to show us the similarities, as well as the changes that we can expect from Apple this year. We love the shade of blue that he has used for his concept phone and can only hope that Apple will be able to replicate something similar, or even better.
