Latest News - / Samsung - Posts

There have been leaked videos previously and they did give us our first look at the S8 and S8+ previously, but this one is arguably the best one yet. The video from 505nick (Instagram) can be found on Benjamin Geshkin's Twitter account here. Take a look at the short 5 second video to know what we are talking about first.

To my own personal delight, the S8 we are seeing here is most probably the Black Pearl variant, which debuted last year with the 128GB Galaxy S7 Edge in selected regions. Many users found this color to be the best of the lot and arguably even better than the Blue Coral variant. Take a look at how the curved display seamlessly integrates itself with the rest of the phone and you will know what I am talking about here. The color clearly adds new dimension to the borderless design of the S8 and S8+.

Other than the color and the display, we also get to see the single rear camera sensor, the rear mounted fingerprint scanner, the flash and a piece of paper with some details under a cautionary headline in bold and caps, announcing the fact that this is indeed, "CONFIDENTIAL."

If the latest rumors are correct (which they mostly are nowadays!), then the Galaxy S8 will be up for pre-order from April 10. Of course the only official info that we have on its release date is that the S8 and the S8+ will be unveiled at a Samsung exclusive event, which will be held simultaneously in New York City and London on March 29. The unofficial word is that both phones will be available for purchase from April 21 and not from April 15, as was thought previously. We will find out which is the right date soon enough.

While all of this is quite exciting, we are a bit disappointed by the fact that all reports and leaks are indicating that the Galaxy S8 may feature just 4GB of RAM. Now, let it be clear that 4GB of RAM is mostly enough for even the avid multitasker and the S8 series of smartphones should be able handle anything you throw at them thanks to the SD 835/Exynos 8895 SoC that they will be packing. However, it still feels a bit odd that Samsung would opt for 4 gigs of RAM for their flagship devices when the Galaxy C9 Pro already features 6GB of RAM. We will have to wait a while to find out for sure though.

The Galaxy S8 and the S8+ will most certainly feature curved Quad HD Super AMOLED displays which will have the highest screen-to-body ratio ever on a Samsung smartphone. However, what will the company be calling that screen? According to a report by SamMobile, it will be known as the "Infinity Display." Check out the screenshot below for more details about the patent.

This piece of information was leaked out after Samsung officially filed a USPTO trademark application just recently. Although the language used in the patent filing isn't particularly elaborate, we can make out that it serves to trademark the Infinity Display terminology for mobile phones. We had heard about the Infinity Display a long time ago and knew it was coming, but this confirms it. If you are wondering how we know that this is indeed the chosen name for the borderless display which will be accompanying the S8 series of smartphones when they are unveiled on the 29th, let's just call it an educated guess for now.

As it happens, the Galaxy S8 leaks have been coming in droves lately. We now have the specifications, press renders, live images, videos and everything in between. Today's leaked images are brought to you by BGR and they seem to be legit. Granted that the leak doesn't reveal anything that we didn't know already, it's still another look at the most anticipated device of the year, almost a month prior to its release. Therefore, it's definitely worth looking at!

One of the images gives us a very up close and personal look at the 3.5mm audio jack, the USB Type-C port and the bottom speaker. This more or less confirms that Samsung isn't ditching the popular headphone jack yet, like many thought it might. We can also see the front camera, the iris scanner, the onscreen Home and navigation buttons, the LED notification light, quite a few sensors and of course, the giant borderless display. From the side view, we can see the Volume buttons and the Power button at the left side, with a dedicated Bixby button on the right. Let us know in the comments, if you spot anything else.

Evan Blass has leaked another image of the Galaxy S8 today on Twitter, which could be the upcoming press release render for the smartphone. The render even has the date on the phone displaying March 29, Wednesday; the official launch date for the two smartphones. From what we can see, it seems that this time around Samsung may launch the Pearl Black color variant right from the start, instead of waiting like it did with the S7 Edge last year. Whether this is the S8 or the S8+, is a bit hard to discern since both devices look essentially the same this year with their curved edge-to-edge displays.

Additionally, we have a leaked video for you as well from Slashleaks on YouTube, which clearly shows the S8 and the S8+ in action. However, the quality of the video is quite bad, as is the camerawork itself. Nevertheless, they do give us a look at the two devices and is worth checking out. If you want a much shorter but high quality video showing off the S8, check it here.
