For those of you who don't know it already, Samsung Display is a division of Samsung Electronics that supplies panels to multiple manufacturers all over the world. Their clientele includes Apple, Huawei, Oppo, Vivo and of course, Samsung's own internal departments. Apparently, Samsung Display's recent flexible OLED sales to the aforementioned Chinese OEMs have reached brand new heights as this sub-division of the South Korean giant is boasting of a sales figure that amounts to a sum of over 1 billion USD in Q3, 2016. The fact that ONLY Samsung Display makes the 6th-gen A3 flexible OLED panels is largely responsible for the impressive sales number.

In a report by IHS Market, both the small and mid-sized display business is dominated by Samsung Display with an astounding market share of 96.2% in Q3, 2016. In the entire display business, Samsung maintains the lead with a share of 31.8%, while Japan Display Inc. (JDI) comes in as a distant second and a market share of 15.4%. LG is at the third position with a respectable 13.1% share of the business.

There have been quite a few leaks about the upcoming reincarnation of the Samsung Galaxy A5 and today, we have another one for you. This one has actually come from the Middle-East apparently and has revealed almost all there is to know about the A5 (2017). Let us now take a closer look at what's been revealed.

5.2-inch Full High Definition panel with 2.5D Gorilla Glass 4 on top
3GB RAM
32GB internal storage with micro-SD card expansion slot
16-mp camera sensors at both the back and the front with f/1.9 aperture
3,000mAh battery
Water resistant, Aluminum build, USB Type-C, Dual SIM, fingerprint sensor and 3D back cover glass

As far as the leaked images are concerned, the A5 (2017) looks suspiciously similar to the Galaxy S6 Edge. Although the 2.5D curved glass means that the display will have a curve to it, whether or not that curve will translate into an Edge display seen only on the flagships from Samsung so far, is something that remains to be seen. We will find out soon enough as the Galaxy A5 (2017) would be released either before Christmas or in Early January, 2017.

Just yesterday, Synaptics had confirmed an optical fingerprint scanner which can be placed under a whole millimetre of glass and today we have news about Bluetooth v5.0 debuting soon. Interestingly enough, Samsung is associated closely with both the Bluetooth Special Interest Group, as well as Synaptics. What this means is that it is highly likely that the Galaxy S8 will be among the very first smartphones in the market to sport the latest version of Bluetooth and an optical fingerprint sensor. Some reports are even indicating that the S8 will be THE first device to sport Bluetooth 5.0 in 2017. While it is very much possible that Bluetooth 5.0 will debut on the Galaxy S8, there haven't been any reports that confirm it yet.

Bluetooth 5.0 is two times faster than its predecessor, has four times the active range and eight times the capacity for broadcast messages. According to the Bluetooth Special Interest Group, v5.0 will ready for a public release within a timeframe of 2 - 6 months and on release, it will work perfectly in new ways with other wireless tech.

In case you are not aware, Synaptics is a company that's famous for making fingerprint scanners, especially for Samsung. They have unveiled quite an innovative piece of fingerprint sensing tech today, dubbed the Natural ID FS9100 optical fingerprint sensor. It resembles the "under the glass" fingerprint scanner which we have been hearing about so far only in rumors and given the history shared by Samsung and Synaptics of working together, we are pretty much sure that this is what we are going to see on the Galaxy S8 next year.

"Synaptics' FS9100 family of fingerprint sensors represent a new breed of optical fingerprint sensor technology that is designed to meet the needs of mobile devices, including the ability to image through thick 2.5D glass. In addition to opening the door to new industrial design options, it enables OEMs to provide highly durable, button-free cover glass and more easily provide water-resistant products, while eliminating low-yield glass processing" - Anthony Gioelli, Vice-President of Biometrics Marketing, Synaptics

This new optical fingerprint sensor works flawlessly even when placed under 1mm of 2.5D glass. Additionally, it can also detect prints from wet fingers, which makes it a great companion for water-resistant smartphones (like the Galaxy S8). Since it's meant to be placed below the front glass of the smartphone, the FS9100 is immune to scratches and electro-static discharges by default. This is the perfect addition to the S8, now that Samsung has probably decided to remove the physical Home button and go with a bezel-less display.

As far as rumors and leaks are concerned, everything is pointing towards Samsung shutting down the traditional flat screen variants of their flagship smartphones with the Galaxy S8. However, these rumors have sparked quite a bit of controversy among fans and experts alike. Some of the customers are of the opinion that a phone sporting a curved display is inconvenient as unintentional inputs from touching the curved sides of the display can be irritating. Some industry veterans agree to this point and even go on to add that a bezel-less display isn't actually that remarkable on a phone as the size of the panel can never be big enough to matter.

In spite of the truth in these arguments, one cannot deny that the dual curved S7 Edge does look a lot better than the regular S7 and that aesthetic appeal is going to reach new heights when Samsung couples that with the rumoured bezel-less or all-screen design. If the Korean giant can improve upon the palm rejection tech for the "Edges," there's very little that one can say against the design. Are you excited about the rumoured 6.2-inch QHD Super AMOLED bezel-less dual curved display on the S8 Plus? Or would you prefer if Samsung stuck with a traditional flat screen for the regular Galaxy S8?
