If you were banking on the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 offering improved scratch resistance due to the Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection on top of its display, you might have to think again. According to a video posted by YouTuber JerryRigEverything, the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 failed quite miserably in a basic scratch test. Keep in mind that the person testing the smartphone is an expert and has performed similar tests on multiple devices and according to him, the Note 7 is more prone to scratches than most of its competitors, in spite of sporting the Gorilla Glass 5 protection. This leads us to believe that Corning might have skimped on scratch resistance in favour of shatter resistance with the fifth version.

The YouTuber even went on to state in the description that he would be glad to make another video if Samsung or Corning came forward to explain what happened here. The flame test also showed less durability than the competition, but we are not as much concerned about that as the chances of our smartphone being exposed to sharp objects like coins, keys and rough surfaces are much greater than being engulfed in flames! If you are planning to pick up a Note 7 anytime soon, our advice would be to order a good quality tempered glass with it just to be safe.

Feuds on Twitter are definitely not a new thing and according to Motorola, neither is Samsung's Always On Display or AOD. In fact, Motorola went as far as calling it stolen technology on twitter in light of the brand new Samsung Galaxy Note 7 which has the AOD feature. In their exact words, "In what galaxy is it okay to steal competitor phone's cool features?"

Apparently, they are of the opinion that Samsung stole the idea of their Always On Display from the Moto X which Motorola had unveiled more than three years ago in 2013. The Moto X 2013 had a similar feature that had been termed as the Active Display. While it can be argued whether or not Samsung had copied the idea behind its own AOD from the Active Display, Motorola was probably not right in asserting that they are the pioneers in the technology. Nokia had done it back in the year 2009 with the Nokia N86 and had again brought the technology to the fray in 2013 with the Glance Screen found on their Lumia series of Windows powered smartphones. To be frank, it is difficult to claim a particular piece of tech as your own "property" if we are to ensure advancement of the tech world as a whole.

It was a big disappointment to many of the Samsung fans who were waiting eagerly for the Note 7, when it came with just 4GB of RAM and the same SD 820 SoC seen in the S7-series. However, latest reports seem to be indicating that the Asian markets such as China will actually be getting the 6GB variant after all. The rumors were further bolstered when president of Samsung Mobiles, Koh Dong-jin said, "We are considering launching Note 7 with a 128 GB internal storage capacity for the Chinese market, even though the handset made its global debut with a 64 GB memory,"

Although this statement by Koh Dong-jin does not exactly mention anything about a 6GB RAM variant, he did state further that, "We will continue to accept different needs from each marketplace, and respond by releasing localized products by changing memory capacity or color." As you can probably guess, this strategy is a direct result of stiff competition from Chinese manufacturers like LeEco, Vivo, and Xiaomi. All of this was declared during the unveiling of the Galaxy Note 7 in South Korea with a price tag of 988,900 WON or roughly $897. Apart from the Silver Titanium, Blue coral and Gold Platinum colors, the Note 7 will also be available in Black Onyx from October onwards.

We have an official confirmation from the president of Samsung Mobiles, Koh Dong-jin, that the flagship will start receiving its Android 7 updates by the end of 2016 or possibly even sooner. He specified the timeline as "two to three months," so that's November by latest. This is good news for owners and fans of the phablet, especially for those who expected the Note 7 to come preloaded with Android 7.0 right out of the box.

In the words of Koh Dong-jin himself, "It is very important for us to offer up-to-date information with the new OS, but what's more crucial is to build a stable and seamless platform for users. That's why we are planning to do enough beta testing before any OS updates." Perhaps this is the reason as to why the Note 7 came preloaded with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow instead of Nougat like many rumors predicted it will. We do agree that it is better to take time in providing a less buggy and more stable experience to the users than just rushing out with a version of the latest OS that feels like a downgrade. However, with the LG V20 announced as the first smartphone to sport the seventh version of Android, Samsung better not delay it too much.

India is the first country to receive the latest security patches for the month of August on the Galaxy S6 Edge and other countries should follow soon. The 63MB download will change your current firmware version to G925IDVS3EPH2 and will a security vulnerability on the device, that Samsung has termed as "critical." If you are thinking that this patches up the QuadRooter vulnerability that we have been hearing so much about, you would be wrong. To the best of our knowledge, QuadRooter only affects Qualcomm Snapdragon chipsets and the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge is powered by the Exynos 7420 SoC. Even if there is a connection, it was not mentioned in the changelog.

There are of course other general improvements in performance and optimizations, and if you want to go into the details, just consult the changelog while installing the update or check the screenshot above. Hopefully, the regular S6 will also be getting the same update, but we are not sure if or when it is coming. In the meanwhile, be wary of shady apps and always check the permission list before allowing the software access to your device.
