xiaomi

Xiaomi owns one the cheapest 5G phone yet in the Redmi 10x series, starting just from $224 in China. But the company is already looking ahead for future projects in terms of connectivity technology. Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun told the news agency Xihuan News that they have already started to invest in the preliminary research on 6G technology. The executive didn't reveal much detail about the research plans, but probably, they'd be joining the likes of Huawei and Samsung in confirming work on 6G.

It looks like the Chinese company isn't stopping at mobile technologies, as Jun says Xiamoi is already started to conduct research on satellite internet and how they can integrate it in smartphones. Satellite internet is a key technology that can make internet accessible for people living in rural areas, where traditional mobile networks and fixed-line infrastructure failed to fulfill the desired range. Xiaomi offers several internet-based series in China, so increased internet penetration via satellite internet should ultimately benefit the company.

The executive also apparently stated that Xiamoi has cleared its 4G smartphones in China to make way for 5G technology. It is unclear that if this means Xiaomi is solely offering 5G phones in China, as the company just released the Redmi 10x 4G alongside the 5G series. And chipset manufacturers haven't revealed truly low-end 5G processors just yet, which means Xiaomi could likely still release 4G phones in the sub-$150 tier in China. Nevertheless, the firm's focus on 5G phones makes sense at home, as all the major networks in the country have switched to the new connectivity standard. But with the likes of India and several other markets yet to switch to 5G, 4G devices are still clearly important for the brand outside China.

poco

POCO, a spin-out brand out of Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi is making its transition towards being an independent firm. The POCO F2 Pro, just like its predecessor hit the high price tag. It features an edge-to-edge 6.67-inch full HD+ AMOLED display screen with 2400 x 1080 pixels. The device is equipped with the latest network technology to support 5G connectivity. It has an in-screen fingerprint scanner that is fast enough to give users a smooth unlocking experience. The phone has a quad-core rear camera system with a pop-up front camera that tucks away when not needed without making any mechanical sounds. It also features a 3.5mm headphone jack that is often missed by flagship smartphones.

The device comes in two variants: one model has 6GB RAM and 128GB storage that is roughly cost around $540. The other model features 8GB RAM and 256GB internal storage that cost around $560. Both of these models operate on Android 10 and went on sale starting Tuesday through Chinese E-commerce sites. The company also has a plan to sell it on Amazon and other international big websites including its official website. The phone support dual-SIM, a popular feature in many Asian countries.

The phone is powered by Qualcomm's flagship octa-core Snapdragon 865 processor, with Adreno 650GPU. The company also claims to design the largest vapor chamber to support liquid cool in any smartphone. This technology helps to keep the device cool even when a user is playing graphic-intensive games such as Fortnite and Pubg on the mobile phone. The phone has a 64MP camera by Sony as a primary lens, with a 13MP ultra-wide lens, a 5MP macro, and one 2MP depth sensor lens in the camera system. The selfie-camera is housed in a pop-up camera casing. The front camera can take pictures up to 20MP. The rear camera system is capable of recording videos in 8K resolution at 24fps and 4k at 60fps. The phone is available in Neon Blue, Electric Purple, Cyber Grey, and Phantom white colors. The battery is 4,700mAh with support for fast charging and ships with a 33W charger in the box.

redmi

There is a good percentage of mobile users prefer to play video games when they have to kill their time. And knowing while mobile is better at games can be its selling point. Redmi Note 8 Pro series is known as one of the best performing mid-range devices of the last year. The Redmi Note 8 Pro features a very powerful processor MediaTek Helio G90T which is specifically made for gamers. The latest price for the pro model is around $184 for the 6GB RAM and 128GB internal storage variants. What special about this phone is that it beats one of the very expensive Galaxy S20 Plus in gaming tests that came out as a surprise for many users.

The test was performed by YouTube Chong Li who posted a video on the gaming comparison of Redmi Note 8 Pro Vs. Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus. He played a top-tier game PUBG mobile which is a graphically intense game for mobile devices. He ran the test for 30-minutes and results were completely unexpected. The Redmi Note 8 Pro uses the MediaTek chip whereas the Redmi Exynos 990 struggle to maintain a stable 60fps for more than 10 minutes and dropped to 50fps. The drop is caused by overheating and throttling caused by game processing for a long time.

Here it is important to note that Galaxy S20 plus is available in Exynos 990 and Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 variants. Although the Snapdragon is only available for the USA and South Korea. The Exynos version is aimed at Asian countries. Although Exynos isn't too bad as well but can't compete with MediaTek processors. The latest Exynos 992 is 1-3% more power-efficient than Snapdragon 865 and its predecessor and we expect better work in the future as well. We may see Exynos 1000 chipset that will be made in collaboration with AMD.
