Last week, Redmi launched Redmi Note 9 series in China that includes three phones - Redmi Note 9 4G, Redmi Note 9 5G, and Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G. And now we have some rumors claiming the variant of this smartphone is expected to be launched in India the mid of December. According to reports, the company will rebrand the Redmi Note 9 as Redmi 9 Power. So far, Redmi hasn't said anything related to the leak. If this tip is correct, we will see an official launch date in a few days.
Redmi 9 Power will be the next smartphone in the ever-popular Redmi 9 series. This phone series made its debut in March earlier this year. As per Mukul Sharma, this device will be launched on December 15, if Xiaomi doesn't change its plans. Apart from this phone, the company is also expected to launch its first QLED Mi TV in the country. We also don't have any official launch date for Tv as well. We may see both items in the same event which might be 100% virtual like many other smartphone and tech events held this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Coming back to the story, the upcoming Redmi 9 Power is codenamed as lime for India. It will bear the model number M2010J19SI. According to the leaks, the phone will be available in two memory configurations - 4GB RAM /64GB internal storage as well as 4GB RAM/128GB storage. The phone will be available in three colors - black, blue, and green. The phone will run on Android 10, MIU 12 on the top. The device will be powered by Qualcomm SM6115 Snapdragon 662 (11 nm). Redmi Power 9 will feature a triple camera system with 48MP as a primary camera, an 8MP ultrawide camera sensor, and a 2MP depth sensor. You can shoot 8MP selfies with the front camera and HD videos at 30fps. For connectivity, it uses Wi-Fi 802.11 and has a 6,000mAh non-removable battery with 18W fast charging and 2.5W reverse charging.

Samsung has now made an official announcement that they will issue an update in the United States for the Galaxy Note 7, which will make the smartphones useless. Once the OTA file is downloaded and installed on the Note 7 (automatically), users won't be able to charge the devices anymore, which will eventually, turn it into an expensive brick. The update will go live on December 19 and it's yet another attempt by the OEM to bring the rest of the potentially dangerous smartphones which are still operational in the US, back to the company. More recent reports are indicating that the same move will also be taken in Europe.
Verizon on the other hand, has officially declared that they will not be issuing the update on their network as they do not want people to lose contact with each other or the emergency services during the holiday season.
"We will not push a software upgrade that will eliminate the ability for the Note7 to work as a mobile device in the heart of the holiday travel season. We do not want to make it impossible to contact family, first responders or medical professionals in an emergency situation."

Today Google released the December report of its distribution chart for the Android platform which is targeted for the developers (it can be seen in the image below). This primarily tells us about the progress it has made in terms of market share in each month when it comes to the different Operating System variants. The newest flavour of Android is version 6.0 Marshmallow, which now powers 0.5% of devices out there. There is an increment of 0.3% in the last month. Also in the same time period, Lollipop's market share has gone up to 29.5%, which is almost 4% more than what was in November.
With 36.6% of the market, KitKat's share has decreased slightly and the three Jelly Bean releases altogether are now at 26.9%, around 2% less than last month. Both Ice Cream Sandwich and Gingerbread have lost some market share, and for some unknown reasons the historic Froyo OS is still stagnant at 0.2% share. It is also evident that the devices running on older variants of the OS are not included. It is expected that Marshmallow's share will increase in the first half of 2016, owing to the upgrade of the devices bought in 2015.

Thanks to Vodafone Australia, we now know that Android version 7.1.1 is coming to all the eligible Nexus and Pixel devices on December 5 - 6. According to the Nexus 6P update advisory by the carrier, the first rollouts of Android 7.1.1 for the 6P (NMF26F) will begin on December 6 (Australian Time). Android Central even specifies the starting time as noon PST, December 5.
The report is in sync with what Google had declared earlier when it stated that Nougat 7.1.1 will be ready for release in early December. Also, as carriers usually have access to OEM updates before their official release in order to customize them for their customers, there is no reason to doubt the authenticity of the report. Additionally, the OTA file will also contain the SMR release from Google for the month of December. This one will be the first big update for the recently released Pixel phones and other manufacturers will finally be able to utilize Android 7.1.1 for upgrading their own smartphones.

Bad News for UK Google fans, Amazon UK seems to be facing issues with getting the HTC Nexus 9 in stock, the online retailer has just pushed the Nexus 9 shipping date to December,15th. That's a whole month delay... as the tablet was supposed to be released on November,3rd.
Naturally, the slate is also offered on the Google Play Store. There, it is listed to start shipping on November 3, so the setback seems to be affecting only Amazon UK for now. There's no information if other retailers in the country are going to delay the Nexus 9 or if the problem is affecting other countries.
The HTC Nexus 9 Wi-Fi starts at £319 for the 16GB version, and £399 for the 32GB of storage. The Nexus 9 comes with an 8.9-inch 2,048x1,536 touchscreen, an 8 MP rear camera with LED flash, a 1.6 MP front snapper, and it's powered by an Nvidia Tegra K1 chipset, with a 2.3 GHz dual-core CPU.

LG announced its plans on Updating its Latest flagship LG G3 to Android 5.0 Lollipop. LG German Facebook account has revealed that they will be looking to get the update out at some point in the fourth quarter, which is just another way to say by the End of 2014, which hints to a late December release.
Of course, that doesn't mean anyone and everyone will have the upgrade by then. This is likely the estimate for unlocked versions of the handset. Carrier-specific models will no doubt be subject to a bit of a delay and might stretch the timeline for many of you into 2015.
LG also confirmed plans to bring the upgrade to the LG G2, though they didn't have a solid date or window of time to commit to you'll simply be getting it "later" than the G3 crowd. We haven't gotten a taste of what Lollipop life on LG's handsets would be like but we imagine we'll have a better look as we inch toward the end of the calendar year.

Since the official release of the Android 5.0 Lollipop, Google received many bug reports regarding issues with battery drain, instability and other bugs. One of the most critical bugs, is a Wi-Fi issue that disables Cisco Corporate Connection in Lollipop, whereby the device will not connect to Cisco WiFi access points running WPA2 with AES encryption.
Many users who already updated their devices to Android 5.0 Lollipop reported that their devices are unstable, beside some other minor issues that cannot be fixed with rooting or custom ROMs. Users hope that Google release a Hotfix to address all these bugs very soon.
Latest rumor suggest that Google will release Android 5.0.1 Lollipop Update to address all these bugs and performance issues later next month (December). However, this info is not confirmed and this much needed update may get delayed. We'll keep you updated regarding this matter.

The year 2016 is coming to an end and Samsung has just detailed everything about the final patch of the year. Google had released the December SMR a few days ago, along with Android 7.1.1 Nougat for select devices and had given OEM companies access to the firmware. If you are wondering when your Samsung phone is going to get Nougat version 7.1.1, we have no clue, because Samsung is still far from releasing the final, stable version of Nougat 7.0 yet.
The December patch however, is definitely coming to all the recent smartphones from the company's arsenal, as well as a few of the old ones. Apart from the multiple fixes and performance improvements from Google itself, the patch will also address 15 issues that are unique to Samsung smartphones. Fortunately, it will solve a problem that I have personally been bogged down with. The mobile Wi-Fi hotspot would turn on automatically sometimes on my phone and the password would simply be presented in the log!
When exactly your smartphone will receive the December patch depends on your location, carrier and of course, the model that you are using. Nevertheless, it shouldn't be too long now.

The December security update for the Samsung Galaxy A5 (2016) is now rolling out to handsets all around Europe. Hopefully other regions should start getting them very soon as well. The OTA file comes in at a surprisingly slim package of only 10.63MB with firmware version XXS3BPLA. The small package makes us curious as to if there are any changes or fixes from Samsung at all in this one. We know that the file contains the SMR from Google for the month of December, but not too many of Samsung's own customized improvements apparently.
However, strangely enough, some users are reporting that their units have been prompted for a 169MB update in the same region. It is unclear at the moment as to what's going on here. What do you see? You can check right now by going to Settings > About phone > Software update. Let us know the size of the file that you are prompted to download in the comments. Just in case you don't see any updates for your phone yet, don't worry, as the batches tend to take a while before reaching all the smartphones in an area.

We have good news for our readers in the US as the Samsung Galaxy S Active has finally started to receive the December security update. One can argue that we are already nearing the end of the first week of January, but then again, these updates seldom reach the intended handsets in time. Also, carrier versions of a smartphone usually receive their updates a bit later than unlocked variants, as the file has to go through an additional layer of customization from the carrier.
The OTA file is landing on handsets with an AT&T connection only, which isn't surprising of course, given that the Galaxy S7 Active is exclusively available on AT&T. The 45MB firmware package has the build number MMB29M.G891AUCS2APL1 and brings with it everything that Android has fixed and patched in the month of December. That is it though; it isn't the Android Nougat update some of you might be waiting for. Then again, you cannot really expect the S7 Active to receive the latest from Android even when the regular S7 and S7 Edge haven't! Nevertheless, we did here about a Nougat based firmware update being released for a very few select S7 series of handsets yesterday.
