Google Drive

Google Drive is reported to be coming out next week. Today's Android Developers Hangout showcased an app with sharing features, giving us a quick look at the options on the developer's Galaxy Nexus. You can clearly see the leaked triangular logo next to a word "Drive" on the sharing Menu (Photo Above), Also there is a video below much more clear than this photo.

If this actually is a functional version of Drive, it certainly does not prove the service is coming to the rest of us any time soon. However, it does mean that at least Google Android developers have a version that is more than vaporware, and makes the many rumors about an upcoming launch seem a little more credible.

Google Drive is the Upcoming Cloud-Storage service from Google. It was first appeared on 2007, Google was planning to launch a cloud storage system named "Drive" that would basically be like Dropbox before it even exists . Then Google decided to kill the product despite it being almost finished. They had decided that their push toward cloud computing was best served by trying to move people past the idea of local files, to a usage model where all of your data is simply there in the cloud.

We knew the product was being tested it is already been seen by people for whom the service had accidentally been switched on. According to sources speaking to GigaOM the launch of Google Drive is now very close, the launch date is expected to be sometime next week. GDrive will come with a native client for easy syncing and uploading of your files. Google will reportedly be giving everyone 1 GB or more of free storage, with options to purchase more space.

It is no surprise that it will roll out for free. As Google is planning to start-up this new service with 5 GB of Free storage to all its users. Of course you can buy more, but 5GB Free is better than Dropbox's 2 GB that is included with every account and its not easy to get more free space on Dropbox, unless you are an HTC user.

Google Drive beta

Just as Dropbox, Drive will be available for both PC and Mac users and have a web interface, like Dropbox, plus a close integration with Docs and Gmail. Naturally, Android and iOS apps will be available at launch as well, which is firmly believed to happen some time next week.

What Google Drive Can do ?

  • Create and collaborate - Google Docs is built right into Google Drive, so you can work with others in real time on documents, spreadsheets and presentations. Once you choose to share content with others, you can add and reply to comments on anything (PDF, image, video file, etc.) and receive notifications when other people comment on shared items.
  • Store everything safely and access it anywhere - especially while on the go. All your stuff is there. You can access your stuff from anywhere-on the web, in your home, at the office, while running errands and from all of your devices. You can install Drive on your Mac or PC and can download the Drive app to your Android phone or tablet (Link Below). Google is also working hard on a Drive app for your iOS devices. And regardless of platform, blind users can access Drive with a screen reader.
  • Search everything - Search by keyword and filter by file type, owner and more. Drive can even recognize text in scanned documents using Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology. Let's say you upload a scanned image of an old newspaper clipping. You can search for a word from the text of the actual article. We also use image recognition so that if you drag and drop photos from your Grand Canyon trip into Drive, you can later search for [grand canyon] and photos of its gorges should pop up. This technology is still in its early stages, and we expect it to get better over time.

"Your Google Drive is Not Ready Yet!"

Here is a Workaround

1- Go to the Google Play Store on your Android Device and download the app.It will automatically log you in, and again give you the same screen stating that your google Drive is not ready yet.

2- Switch screens internally in the app (Switch to another account if you have more than one, or go into the settings of the app) and then press the back button to go back to the main Drive screen. you can also exit the app and open it again.

3- You will notice that once you go back to the app, the message is gone and you have full access to your Google Drive on your Android Device. This workaround gives you access on your phone
ONLY, The Google Drive website will still not be available until its ready for you.
