HTC unveiled the long rumored M8 Ace for a worldwide audience and under a simpler name HTC One E8. That's right, consumers will have to pay attention to the stuff in brackets or they risk getting a rather different device.

The One E8 has a plastic unibody instead of an aluminum one, but has the same elegant dual curve as its metal sibling. The dimensions are about the same except the plastic model is a bit thicker (9.9mm vs. 9.4mm), but lighter (145g vs. 160g).

The One E8 is powered by a Snapdragon 801 chipset. It's not clear if it's the same chipset as in the One M8 with a 2.3GHz CPU or the one from the One Vogue Edition with a 2.5GHz CPU. Either way, there's 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage expandable with microSD cards of up to 128GB.

The HTC One E8 has a 13MP main camera with a BSI sensor, f/2.2 aperture and a single-LED flash. The front-facing camera takes 5MP selfies with a BSI sensor of its own, both cameras are capable of 1080p video. This is essentially the same setup as the One mini 2 and Desire 816, rather than the 4MP Duo camera on the One M8.

HTC One E8 will come in Black, Red and White. The final major difference between M8 and E8 is that the new phone has dual-SIM connectivity. It takes two nanoSIMs, both with quad-band GSM connectivity. The second SIM will also do quad-band 3G with HSPA+ (up to 42Mbps downlink) and 4G LTE. The LTE connectivity will only work on Chinese networks, though. The device will be on the market by the end of this month.
