Motorola's Defy Satellite Link brings satellite connectivity to your smartphone

As smartphone technology has peaked, smartphone makers need to come up with new and interesting offerings to tempt customers. In Apple's case, they introduced satellite connectivity with the iPhone 14, giving users a way of reaching out for help in the event they do not have cellular coverage.

That being said, not all smartphone makers have adopted the technology yet, but they might not have to. Bullitt has announced that the Motorola Defy Satellite Link is now available for purchase in the US. The device was revealed early this year at MWC 2023, but now it looks like it will be available for those in the US who might want to get their hands on it.

For those who are unfamiliar, the Motorola Defy Satellite is a little gadget that can be connected to existing smartphones, giving them satellite coverage as well. This means that if your current phone does not have the feature, then buying this device will enable it. The Defy Satellite is powered by MediaTek's MT6825 chipset and supports features like two-way satellite messaging over non-terrestrial networks, as well as connection to low Earth orbit satellites and geostationary ones.

The Motorola Defy Satellite is being sold for $150 which includes a year's subscription to the Essentials Messaging service for up to 30 two-way messages per month and SOS Assist. It will also be compatible with both iOS and Android devices, so everyone will be able to make use of it.
