Samsung is going to start mass production of 1080p Super AMOLED HD displays at some point in 2013, according to several reports coming from the far east. A panel like that would have a resolution of 1920 by 1080 pixels, which would translate into a pixel density of over 440ppi depending on the screen's size (5-inch). Super AMOLED Technology, despite being known for its broader color gamut, deep black tones, and shorter response time, still does not allow production of displays of such high resolution.

What is also interesting is that Samsung was being offered to use 1080p LCD displays made by LG Display or Japan Display, according to the report. The offer was made in case Samsung had troubles manufacturing AMOLED displays with such high pixel density. The company was even given samples to examine and possibly consider using in its future devices. But Samsung refused.
