Xiaomi's Newest Foldable is Finally Here

Just this year alone, Xiaomi has launched a multitude of Android-powered smartphones for different price brackets, although a lot of these are admittedly aimed at developing markets or consumers on a budget. With that in mind however, the company finally launched its newest premium device, the Xiaomi Mix Fold 3.

Designed to compete with the likes of the Galaxy Z Fold and Honor Magic V series devices, the Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 comes with some design upgrades including a slim 10.89mm profile when folded, in addition to an all-new hinge design that's 17% smaller, allowing users to unfold the device in 45 to 135-degree angles.

Running inside the phone is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset alongside up to 16GB RAM and 1TB storage, powered by a 4,800 mAh battery with support for 67W wired charging speeds, as well as 50W wireless charging speeds. The phone ships with Android 13 onboard, although it does come layered with MIUI.

In terms of display technology, the Mix Fold 3 comes with a main 8.03-inch LTPO panel with a 1,960 x 2,160px resolution and a 120Hz variable refresh rate, Ultra Thin Glass, and HDR 10+ support. Meanwhile, the external 6.56-inch LTPO OLED display features Gorilla Glass Victus 2 and gets bright at up to 2,560 nits peak brightness.

For optics, the Mix Fold 3 features a quad camera system that Xiaomi says was developed in collaboration with Leica. The main camera module consists of a 50MP Sony IMX800 lens, a 12MP ultrawide camera, a 10MP telephoto lens, and a 10MP periscope camera.

Pre-orders for the Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 for buyers in China are open, with sales beginning on August 16. Starting at around $1240 for the base model (when converted), the phone is currently exclusive for Chinese markets, with no international availability announced at the moment.
