Dell has launched the spiritual successor to the now defunct Adamo series. The new XPS 15z is claimed to be the thinnest 15-inch laptop on the planet and packs in some serious hardware for the price.

For starters, the body of the XPS 15z is made entirely out of anodized aluminum and magnesium alloy. The thickness is just .97-inch and it weighs in at 5.54 pounds. Now here’s the funny part.Although Dell claims the XPS 15z to be the thinnest 15-inch laptop on the planet, the MacBook Pro 15-inch is actually .95-inch in thickness. However, no where else did we find the mention of this claim on Dell’s website apart from the above link, which means someone has realized their mistake and quickly pulled the claim.

The XPS 15z packs in a 1920 x 1080 FullHD display within its 15.6-inch frame. The backlit keyboard has a chicklet design and there is a traditional trackpad below. Around the sides you will find two USB 3.0 ports, USB/eSATA combo port, HDMI, MiniDisplay Port, Ethernet, headphone/microphone jacks and a slot-loading optical drive. Dell missed out on a Blu-ray drive and has put in a simple DVD writer.

It will come with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit pre-installed.

Dell has leaked some specs to go with their leaked roadmap from February. The Dell tablet family is getting some new additions each with its own different personality.

The 10-inch Streak Pro should be released as soon as this June, sporting Android Honeycomb, Dell Stage 1.5 UI and an Nvidia Tegra T25 chipset along with 2 mics and 2 cameras. Following up is the larger 13-inch Latitude EX-3; a convertible lap-tab that comes with the option of an i3, i5 or i7 processor, 4GB of RAM, support for full 1080p output, a various slew of peripheral options and all on Windows 7.

The third and final tablet to join the party is the Latitude ST. This 10-inch tab can boast some Intel Oak Trail goodness (clocked at 1.5GHz) 2GB of RAM, a 128GB SSD, full 1080p output, an approximated 8 hours of battery life and all running on Windows 7. Price is still nowhere to be seen but we don’t have long to wait at least for the first tablet to grace our presence.

Craving for that sweet Asus Eee Pad Transformer tablet, are we? Well if you live in the UK, get that credit card of yours ready as the slate has just become available. Comet has it in store and despite being a few days early it does not charge a premium price for the Eee Pad Transformer its still the expected £380.

The bad news is that the keyboard/docking station is still not available so you will have to wait a few more days to get the full set. Still you now get your chance to experience the Tegra 2 prowess on a Honeycomb tablet on a price thats not prohibitively expensive.

And there is more good news for the Transformer fans coming from the Modaco forums. Apparently users PaulOBrien and BumbleDroid have already managed to root the Eee Pad Transformer. The solution is npt publicly available just yet, but that should happen sooner rather than later.

ipad 2

Dell, probably the most boring personal computer manufacturer on the face of this Earth, is going out on a limb and saying that Apple iPad will not take off in the enterprise space. To quote Andy Lark, Dell Global Head of Marketing for Large Enterprises and Public Organisations, he says: "I could not be happier that Apple has created a market and built up enthusiasm but longer term, open, capable and affordable will win, not closed, high price and proprietary. Apple has done a really nice job, they’ve got a great product, but the challenge they have got is that already Android is outpacing them. Apple is great if you have got a lot of money and live on an island. Its not so great if you have to exist in a diverse, open, connected enterprise; simple things become quite complex." If that isn’t a burn, we do not know what is.

Now of course the new types of computing paradigms offered by tablets will prove beneficial to various industries such as health care and logistics, but are those firms willing to invest high up front costs when they can instead opt for a cheaper solution from the numerous Honeycomb tablets hitting the market this year? Lark admits that while Dell has traditionally been a Windows player, they do plan on releasing a Honeycomb tablet. He fails to mention specs, timelines, and a price point, but those knowledge gaps will be filled with time.

dvp uk Dell Venue Pro finally available in the UK for 459 GBP

Dell Venue pro is finally available in the UK from Dell own website. No carrier has picked it up yet meaning you will have to pay the full price to own the sexiest Windows Phone 7 device. And that price could be a problem the American company is asking for 382.50 GBP without taxes and shipping. Add taxes to the figure and you come to 459 GBP which is almost $750! Thats super steep even for a smartphone as awesome as the Venue pro. Hopefully some carrier will add it to its portfolio and offer it for less on a contract.

Specs wise, Dell Windows Phone 7 device comes with a sliding QWERTY keyboard, 4.1-inch WVGA capacitive touchscreen, HSPA and WiFi connectivity, Bluetooth, GPS, tons of built-in storage and all other "standard for a modern smartphone" goodies.
