The Samsung Galaxy S is not getting the full Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update, but it is still getting updated with some of the ICS features in what Samsung calls a "Value Pack Update" or VPU. Moire rumores dates for the Nexus S 4G Android 4.0.4 update are coming up. Today, we have a leaked ROM for the Nexus S 4G. This one will update your phone to Android 4.0.4, bringing all the features that other Nexus S users have been enjoying for months, along with some improvements to the WiMAX reception, due to the updated baseband.
Google recently started rolling out the Android 4.0.4 update to the GSM versions of the Galaxy Nexus and the Nexus S but few users have actually received the update so far, with most choosing to simply flash it manually. This leaked ROM will be going live OTA very soon!
This is exactly what we all would like to see from our carriers, not just rumors and speculations dates that the update is "on the way", but an actual list of Android 4.0 updates with an ETA for every device involved. Bell Canada showed its Ice Cream Sandwich update plans.
The list only has 7 devices on it though. If the list is correct, the Samsung Galaxy S II and Samsung Galaxy Note are first up for the ICS update, which should hit in April. May only has the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 update there. June is a big month with updates for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 LTE, HTC Sensation and HTC Raider. And, the LG Optimus LTE rounds out the updates in July.
Finally, Samsung starts Rolling out the first Value packs Updates (VPU) to the Samsung Galaxy S I9000 devices.
The Update is currently Available for Europe and Korea through OTA or via Samsung Kies and will Roll-out to other countries soon. The Value pack will make your Galaxy S Faster, smoother and uses some Android 4.0 features adapted inside it, such as the Facelock.
