Acer Iconia A700

We had heard about the Acer Iconia Tab A700 before but this is the first time we are seeing actual images of the device. Well, not of the actual device because what you see below is just a dummy but that is basically what the A700 will look like when it will launch.

As we had heard before, the A700 will have a 1920 x 1200 resolution display, the highest on any tablet so far and will be powered by the same quad-core Tegra 3 processor ticking inside the ASUS Transformer Prime. Other features include 5 megapixel camera with LED flash and HD camera on the front, Wi-Fi 802.11n, Bluetooth 3.0, micro USB and micro HDMI port for connectivity and a SIM card slot for 3G.

Acer Software Update

Good news if you own the Acer Iconia Tab A500 as Acer is pushing the new software updates for its 10.1-inch tablet as we speak.

Do not expect the Ice Cream Sandwich though this is rather a maintenance update that will make your Iconia A500 snappier as well as bring the latest version (3.4.4) of the Android Market app along with a number of performance and stability enhancements under the hood.

Acer Iconia

In response to the rumor that Acer will withdraw from the tablet PC and smartphone markets, the company founder, Stan Shih, has said that although Acer tablet operation has not performed well, it is not time to give up the business.

"He said experiencing frustration is an unavoidable the process, just like Acer encountering troubles when it entered the notebook market."

Acer has clarified the rumor by stating that Acer has no plans to quit the tablet PC and smartphone business operations or downsize related personnel but will made optimal adjustments to decrease the number of product models for selective and strategic input of operational resources. If the adjustments lead to success, Acer will expand tablet PC and smartphone business operations, the company said.

But people have been replacing the official Kindle Fire software with custom versions of Android almost as long as the tablet has been available and now the tools are available for anyone to install an early build of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich on the tablet.

Developer JackpotClavin has released a very early build of Android 4.0 for the Kindle Fire. It is based on CyanogenMod 9 and right now it is very buggy.
