A teardown of the Samsung Galaxy S7

4 March, 2016 Samsung

As it turns out, T-Mobile has decided to ignore Samsung's official release date for the Galaxy S7 as the S7 and S7 Edge have already started to reach T-Mobile customers who had pre-ordered it. Chipworks have made a name for themselves by doing gadget teardowns and this time around they got their hands on a Galaxy S7. The revelations that were made after the disassembly are not really groundbreaking though because we already know most of it.

Firstly, the camera module is a 12 megapixel IMX260 Sony sensor with dual pixel phase detection autofocus. The thickness comes to 5.4mm and each one of its pixels measure 1.4µm. There is also a STMicroelectronics (K2G2IS) gyroscope for enhanced image stabilization. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 SoC is placed behind the Hynix 4GB LPDDR4 RAM module and the touchscreen controller is Samsung's own S6SMC41X.

It looks like STMicroelectronics also provided the S7's in-built barometer, while the NFC controller was manufactured by NXP. Chipworks also found the Wi-Fi module to be a product of Murata, the microphone manufactured by Knowles and the wireless power receiver brought in from IDT. This about sums it up, but if you are a techie who would want to know more, head over to their website.
