The Nokia N9 was only announced this morning, but previews have already began to appear online. The MeeGo smartphone has been absolutely loved by everyone who got a chance to try it and it appears that it will be worth its flagship position.

The Nokia N9 polycarbonate unibody is looking pretty hot as you can see from the photos and the performance seems good worthy of a flagship device too. Plus, the 3.9″ AMOLED of FWVGA resolution is reportedly looking as impressive as it gets. By the way here is an interesting piece of trivia for you this is the highest-resolution AMOLED on a mobile phone yet, even if it only adds 54 pixels on one of the sides.

Shortly after the announcement of the N9 images and videos of the phone started floating around on the Internet but the one we were looking for has just come out.

We are talking about the hands-on video of the device, where we will get to see how the phone actually performs outside of promotional content. We also have a video from Nokia where they talk about the design story of the N9 and how it is all based on one simple gesture: swipe.

Nokia just announced the MeeGo-based N9 smartphone and I must say it is the best thing I have seen from Nokia so far. But they did not stop at just the phone. They also have a few new accessories for the phone, two of which make use of the NFC technology.

Now the NFC tech isn’t something new. Google has been demoing it for some time now. But Nokia has gone ahead and dome something a lot more useful and practical with it by using it for pairing their Bluetooth accessories with the N9. All you have to do is take your NFC enabled phone and touch to an NFC enabled Bluetooth accessory and they will pair automatically. Touch them again and they get unpaired.

Nokia has now launched two accessories that use this cool feature. First is the Nokia Wireless Music Receiver, which lets you pair the device simply by tapping your NFC phone on it and then you can stream music from your phone to the device, which you can then connect to your audio system.

Nokia N950

The long awaited MeeGo device is finally a reality and it turns out it has a brother the Nokia N950 is a developer platform running MeeGo and packs a QWERTY keyboard along with similar specs to that of the N9.

The Nokia N950 is likely one of the leaked MeeGo devices that was rumored to be the official MeeGo handset for this year. The N950 is not a consumer device it comes with no warranty, beta software and overall may not work as well as a day-to-day device

Still, the N950 has an aluminum body, which is always a plus and the slide-out QWERTY keyboard will draw the eye of heavy texters. The screen is a 4" TFT unit with FWVGA resolution (rather than 3.9" FWVGA AMOLED).

The 8MP camera on the Nokia N950 has "very similar image quality" to the Carl Zeiss branded camera on the N9 but the camera units are different. The front facing camera is in a different location but the same module is used for both devices. Other differences include the lack of NFC module in the N950 and its digital compass isnot as accurate and the battery is slightly smaller (1320mAh vs. 1450mAh).

The software on the Nokia N950 is not finalized and will not get an Over-the-Air update. Still, MeeGo is a very flexible platform and we're guessing it will not be long until someone ports the software from the N9 to the N950. Nokia did not specify a release date or price for the N950 model. Still, MeeGo enthusiasts should be ecstatic about this two MeeGo devices even though Nokia promised only one.

Nokia N9 Back in the Game

Nokia has just announced the MeeGo-based N9 smartphone at Singapore in Nokia Communications 2011. This is the same phone that was leaked a while back.

The new N9 is the first smartphone running on the Linux-based MeeGo operating system, jointly developed by Intel and Nokia. It uses a brand new interface design that uses a lot of swipe based gestures. The homescreen has three panels that you can swipe through. The first is Applications, where you will find all your installed apps. The second is events where you have all your notifications and messages from social networking websites on one screen and third is where you will find all the open applications in a grid of windows. You can pinch and zoom to select the number of applications you see at a time and then tap on one to jump right back to where you left off.

All the navigation in the UI is done using swipe based gestures. You can just swipe from different sides of the screen to move back and forth between applications or bring forth the list of open applications. The N9 comes with a new web browser that is based on the Webkit 2 technology and has full support for HTML5. However, it seems there is no Adobe Flash support for now.

In addition, there is also a new version of Ovi Maps on offer, with free turn-by-turn voice navigation. The N9 will also have support for Dolby Headphone and Dolby Digital Plus built-in, a first for a phone. The phone will come pre-loaded with Angry Birds Magic (with NFC support), Galaxy on Fire 2 and Real Golf 2011.

On the hardware side, Nokia N9 uses a polycarbonate unibody design with a unique outward curved touchscreen display. This is the first phone to not have any key on the front surface and everything is done using the touchscreen and the swipe gestures. The display is 3.9-inch AMOLED with a resolution of 854 x 480. The protective glass is made from Corning Gorilla Glass.

On the back is an 8 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics, auto-focus and an LED flash that can also record videos in HD with stereo sound. It will feature touch to focus, exposure lock and continuous auto-focus.

Inside you have a 1GHz TI OMAP3630 SoC with 1GHz Cortex A8 CPU and PowerVR SGX530 GPU along with a generous 1GB of RAM. In the connectivity department you get 3G HSDPA, Wi-Fi 802.11n, Bluetooth v2.1, GPS, accelerometer and digital compass. The N9 will require a micro SIM, just like the iPhone 4.

The N9 will be available in three colors, black, pink and blue and in two versions, 16GB and 64GB. The N9 also comes with an NFC chip built-in. Nokia demonstrated it by pairing the N9 with an NFC-compatible Bluetooth headset simply by touching it to the phone. Touching it again unpaired the headset.
