Samsung Progress on Android 5.1 Lollipop updates for High and Mid-range devices

Android Lollipop


Samsung is working hard on bringing updates to all its devices, both High-end and Mid-range handsets. The Korean giant released many Lollipop 5.0 Updates and working on the Android 5.1 Lollipop updates for some devices, Here's the progress so far...


Android 5.1 Lollipop Progress


Galaxy S6 5.1.1


Samsung is confirmed to be developing Firmwares based on Android build 5.1.1 Lollipop for various devices such as Note 4, Note Edge, Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge, Grand Prime, Mega 2 .


So far, the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge 5.1.1 Lollipop firmwares are out of Testing and ready to start rolling-out by Next month (June, 2015). Galaxy Note 4 Android 5.1.1 Lollipop Firmwares still In-development and expected in the next 3 months if everything went smooth.

Samsung hasn't confirmed any plans to update the Galaxy S5 or Galaxy S4 to 5.1.1 yet, but it's highly expected that both of those device will get the new build in the upcoming months, we can't put timeframe for any undergoing development.


Mid-range Updates Progress


Grand Prime


As for the Mid-range devices (such as Mega 2) their Lollipop 5.1.1 firmwares has just hit the "In-development" status, while the Grand Prime Lollipop update is ready and should start rolling-out very soon, the Android 5.1.1 update will bring lots of performance improvements including a fix for the Memory leak bug that affects the device's performance on a long run, (Screenshot below of Gran Prime runnig Lollipop 5.0.2).

So far, Only the Grand Prime and Mega 2 are confirmed to get this new build, no information regarding other mid-range devices yet. Note that Samsung may release 5.0.2 update for those devices first (as the are still running 4.4) followed by 5.1.1 update later.
