Galaxy S5 & Galaxy S4

On May 11, Samsung's current flagship Galaxy S5 will have been available on the market for exactly one Month (launched April,11th). We do know that the first day sales of the Galaxy S5 were significantly higher than the first day sales of Samsung's last year flagship, the Galaxy S4. At the same time, the launch weekend sales of the device also beat the ones of its greatest rival, the Apple iPhone 5s.

S5 vs. S4

In this line of thought, it is quite curious to compare the overall adoption rates of the two devices, the S4 and the S5, for a bigger amount of time and see if the trend is still present. Luckily, the folks at Chitika, an online advertising network, released a statistical report that gives us more insight on the matter. According to Chitika, the Galaxy S5 accounted for 4.3% of all Samsung smartphone web traffic in North America just 25 days after it got launched, from April 11 throughout May 5. which is more than Double what the Galaxy S4 had 2.0% only in one month after it released.

The Galaxy S5 will undoubtedly be one of the hits on the smartphone market this year, but Samsung's rivals won't stay idle on the contrary, their smartphones are going to fight tooth and nail with the Galaxy S5 for a bigger share of the market.

Samsung

Samsung is no doubt a mobile powerhouse, the latest IDC quarterly update gives us a look into just how much of a powerhouse the Korean manufacturer is. 30.3% of total smartphone market share is controlled by Samsung, which is about 85 million units, in Q1 2014.

All "other" smartphones account for 40.5% of the market share, but these are hardly the bigger players that pose a threat to Samsung's current market dominance.

IDC predicts that smartphone shipments will reach 1.2 billion units, total, for 2014; a 200 million increase from last year. This is due to growth in the smartphone market and the constant spread of new models entering the market, especially low-range handsets.

In line with the earnings guidance from earlier this month, the Korean giant posted a net profit of 8.5 trillion won which is about $8.2 billion from total revenue of 53.68 trillion won about $51.8 billion of revenue in the last three months.

The company's net profit took a 3% dip compared to the same period last year. Samsung attributed the second straight fall of quarterly profit to a weakness in the market for flat-screen panels and maturing high-end smartphone segment.
