We have seen a few 5G smartphones recently but Vivo is missing from the 5G landscape till yesterday. As today, Vivo announced its 5G enabled flagship smartphone that is powered by a Snapdragon 865 processing chip. As you might have guessed it already from the name of the phone that Nex 3S 5G is a minor hardware upgrade over the Nex 3 5G that was launched by the company last year. The phone has a non-removable Li-Po 4500mAh battery that comes with fast charging at 44W.

The new Nex 3S 5G has the same 6.89-inch FHD+ waterfall display just like its predecessor. The device has a screen-to-body ratio of 99.6%. While the company hasn't changed much from the exterior point of view but it has upgraded its hardware specs. The old Nex 3 5G was using Snapdragon 855 plus, and the new Nex 3S 5G is powered by a liquid-cooled Snapdragon 865 processor, paired with up to 128GB LPDDR5 RAM and 512GB UFS 3.1 storage.

The phone has a triple-camera setup with a 64MP primary lens, a 13 MP ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 13MP telephoto lens featuring 2x optical zoom. For the front camera, the phone has a 16MP pop-up camera. It can create videos up to 2160p at 30 frames per second. The display is a Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen and offers 16M colors with a 1080 x 2256 pixel resolution. The phone comes with Android 10 with the company's own UI FunTouch. The phone is available in China starting from March 14. There are two variants for this device - 8GB/256GB variant is priced at $719 while the other version is priced at $762. For the time being there is no news about its global availability and we just have to see when it lands in India and other parts of the world.

Vivo V17 is almost similar to its Pro version that has almost similar hardware and software experience but the Vivo V17 is slightly cheaper than V17 Pro. The device has the same design as the Pro model. The major difference is the L shape rear camera set up inside a rectangular module. The Vivo V17 features a 6.4-inch super AMOLED display with minimum bezels. The device has a pop-up module with a modified punch hole that dies. The selfie camera is being placed on the right corner instead of the center. This does give users an almost full-screen experience but you will feel the cutout while watching videos or playing games.

The device is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 processor, which is good enough but not the best one. It can't handle heaving gaming or multi-tasking. So if you want to play PUBG on mobile, there will be a significant compromise on graphics. It has 8GB RAM with 128GB storage that can be expanded using a microSD card slot. For charging, it uses a Type-C USB charging port with 18W fast charging that helps to go from zero to 100 percent in less than an hour. The device has a 4100mAh battery whereas the pro version uses a 4500mAh battery.

V17 uses FunTouch OS 9.2 based on Android 9 Pie. The Vivo has a confusing interface and a new user may take some time to get used to it. The biggest hype around Vivo is its camera. The quad-camera setup is a perfect gift for photography enthusiasts. It can take stunning images with great detail and perfection under low light conditions. V17 has a 48MP primary camera with f/1.8, 8MP sensor with f/2.22, a 2MP sensor with f/2.4 for bokeh effect. The fourth 2MP camera with f/2.4 is a macro lens for macro photography. The night mode lets you take decent pictures even in a low light environment. There is a 32MP front camera that also has a night mode.

The Vivo V17 is great for the price tag Rs 22,990 and seems more attractive than its pro model but if you have you have to choose between Redmi K20 Pro and Vivo V17, it is hard to recommend V17. Realme X2 Pro is available at the same price or even less but with the same specs and bigger battery.

Vivo is ready to launch two brand new phones for its X-series. The two models are Vivo X30 and X30 Pro. Both of these phones have 5G network support and are the first mobile phones to be powered by the Exynos 980 processor. Both phones have a similar design with a punch-hole display at the top right corner of the panel for the selfie camera. The phones are covered in glass on both sides and have some shades. Both have a large 6.44-inch super AMOLED display with a 2400 x 1080 resolution. Under the display, there is a fingerprint scanner and a support for face unlock.

The phones are powered by the latest Exynos 980 processing chip with 5G modem integration which was developed by Samsung and Vivo in partnership. The octa-core processor features cortex-A77 cores and paired with 8GB of RAM on both phones with the option of 128GB or 256GB of storage. The processing chip has support for SA and NSA networks (n41 and n78 bands) and boasts up to 2.55Gbps in the download speed. For connectivity, both phones have support for Bluetooth, NFC, and there is also an audio jack for sound. Vivo ships both phones with a 4350mAh battery with support for fast charging via USB type-c.

Now, you must be wondering that if the specs are the same for both phones, why there are even two models? Well, the phones have different camera specs and price tags. The Vivo X30 has a triple camera - a 64MP f/1.8 camera with a 26.4mm focal length; an 8MP ultrawide angle camera with an f/2.2 aperture, 16mm focal length and a 112° field of view; and a whopping 32MP f/2.0 professional portrait camera with a 50mm focal length. The camera has a super night mode 2.0 to reduce noise and bring a brighter picture even at night.

The X30 Pro also has a 64MP primary rear camera with the same f/1.8 aperture and 26.4mm focal length. It pairs it with an 8MP f/2.2 ultrawide angle camera with a 122° FOV and also has a 32MP professional f/2.0 portrait camera with a 50mm focal length. Vivo then rounds it off with a 13MP periscope lens with a 5x optical zoom. The Vivo X30 is priced at ¥3298 (~$472) for the 128GB version and ¥3598 (~$515) for the 256GB version.

A few years ago, there was no existence of Vivo but now, it has become the fifth-largest smartphone manufacturer. When the world is adopting the 5G with slow pace, the company has already released two 5G-enabled smartphones in China, including the NEX-3. Vivo has plans to bring 5G to its budget-friendly consumers as well as its premium flagship buyers. In this year, almost half a million units were sold in China, developed by different smartphone makers. Vivo holds up to 54.3% of these numbers according to IDC. 5G networks may not be available yet, but Vivo is preparing customers to be connected as soon as the switch flips.

By next year, there will be 5G support by major telecom companies and Vivo is focusing on making the rollout for the Asian market as smooth as possible. Vivo is looking forward to launching more 5G-enabled devices and applications to keep the transition smooth. The company is also bringing the affordable versions of 5G-enabled phones to keep the most of its consumers intact. The internet expense for 5G isn't too expensive that means more and more people will be switching to 5G by the second quarter of 2020. 

Vivo is working with its technology partners such as Qualcomm since 2016 to join the 5G revolution as soon as it is introduced to the public. Vivo has revealed technologies like AR glass and the 5G cloud game powered by its partner at MWC shanghai 2019. Both tech giants have been working in unison ever since their first 3G collaboration in 2011. Think about that: Vivo and Qualcomm have been together for three generations of connection. That's a great initiative and may bring positive change in the telecom industry.

The Vivo NEX 3 is available in Hong Kong, Singapore, and Taiwan. It is unlocked on Amazon and Vivo Mall. It features a massive 6.89-inch display and a triple camera with a 64-megapixel main shooter. It's powered by the Qualcomm 855 Plus, and it even features a 3.5mm headphone jack. The days of the headphone jack don't have to end quite yet!

Vivo officially teased its upcoming smartphone with 5G network support in a video. This will be called the Vivo x30. The device is teased to be released in December and is now confirming some of its specs though various video teasers. The smartphone is expected to be powered by the latest processing chip by Samsung - Exynos 980 5G chipset. Vivo's big phone seems to have a long-range zoom camera. The company released two official teasers of the phone. A still in the video teases a focal range of 16mm to 135mm, as well as a variable aperture range of f/1.8 to f/3.0. The variable aperture values belong to the zoom lens. Vivo called the lens "super-telephoto" and the second teaser for the phone confirms its 60x zoom capabilities.

The video is in the Chinese language. It says, "Zoom in, then zoom in again. 60x super zoom, more than you can see". This would be a periscope-style camera that Huawei P30 Pro and Oppo Reno 10x zoom edition have already used. We don't know how the camera will be different from Huawei and Oppo but so far, this will be the highest zoom capabilities we have seen on a phone so far. The P30 Pro offers 50x digital zoom, while the Oppo Reno 10x goes up to 60x digital zoom. There is no official word on the optical or hybrid zoom values of the Vivo X30 yet, but it is likely 60x digital zoom as well.

The video shows a glimpse of the back of the phone that shows a stacked triple camera array and a separate rectangular camera, possibly the zoom camera on the side. The smartphone was previously tipped to sport a 64MP + 8MP + 13MP + 2MP quad camera setup. There's a Pro version also expected, with a 60MP + 13MP + 13MP +12MP configuration. Other noteworthy specs expected from Vivo's X30 series phones include 90Hz display, 44W flash charge, and a 32MP selfie shooter.
