Samsung Smartwatch SIM card

According to a Wall Street Journal report, Samsung confirmed to be working on a new Smartwatch that will NOT require a Smartphone to pair with, instead, it will have a standalone network connectivity with a nano-SIM card slot, its a step forward from being just a notification device to a fully functional phone.

WDJ report say that Samsung's standalone smartwatch will be running Tizen OS and will be able to make and receive calls, and send emaild, all without the need to be tethered to a smartphone. It may not be named the "Solo", but it is certainly part of the Tizen-powered Samsung Gear lineup, rather than the Android-powered Galaxy Gear brand. The device will have other functionality that we've seen in the Gear line including GPS, Bluetooth, a camera, and a heart rate monitor.

Supposedly, Samsung is already in talks with wireless carriers in the US, South Korea, and Europe to help bring the device to market; and, Samsung is planning to announce the device in either June or July with a release possible for sometime over the summer. No word yet on pricing or specs.

Motorola's Moto 360 smartwatch was unveiled back in March along with Google's Android Wear OS debuted. It's the only smartwatch from a big phone manufacturer to come with a circular screen and it's certainly the prettiest one yet.

There is no more information on the specs besides the showcased design with a single button. Google's I/O is coming on June 25 and that's when Motorola is expected to detail the Moto 360.

The latest report on the Moto 360 confirm that its retail price will be €249 and it will launch in Early July. Note that Moto 360 isn't able to take pictures or make calls but the smartwatch should be more capable as it will interact with the entire Android OS and its Google Now services.

A Samsung device with a model name SM-R710 has been found on Zauba a web site that tracks parcels going in and out of India. Judging by its description, the gadget can be used as a mobile phone, Samsung Gear 2 Solo could be its official name. Besides, the model name fits Samsung's scheme for naming wearables, as the Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo are also known as the SM-R380 and SM-R381 respectively.
