HTC is getting ready to launch a universal USB charger that will allow select handsets to be powered up 40% faster than with regular chargers. Called HTC Rapid Charger 2.0, the accessory uses Qualcomm's Quick Charge 2.0 technology which debuted last year on the Snapdragon 800 SoC, and is obviously included in newer chipsets.
While the HTC Rapid Charger 2.0 is compatible with all HTC smartphones, there aren't that many which can benefit from its faster charging abilities. For now, HTC is listing the following models: HTC One M8, HTC One M8 Harman Kardon Edition, HTC One E8, HTC One remix, and HTC Desire EYE. It's not clear if the HTC One M8 for Windows is also included here.
At the moment, HTC isn't saying exactly when the Rapid Charger 2.0 will be released, and neither how much it's going to cost. Anyway, it's probably safe to assume that its price will be roughly similar to the one of Motorola's Turbo Charger, which is currently sold for $34.99.
