LG

LG is preparing to reveal some new devices in Las Vegas CES 2013 event, the new devices will include a 5.5-inch phablet Smartphone and a 7-inch Tablet.

The 5.5-inch full HD phablet could be the Optimus G2 we've been talking about in the past. It's apparently going to be LG's flagship device for 2013, competing with Samsung's Galaxy Note II.

Finally, we may see a 7-inch tablet from LG. What will make this device unique is its screen with 1920×1200 pixels resolution. That's 324ppi pixel density that will effectively make it the most reader-friendly 7-inch tablet out there.

LG Optimus 2X owners in Europe can finally breath a sigh of relief! After nearly half a year of unconfirmed info about the update, the former LG flagship finally started receiving its ICS 4.0 update.

The firmware version of the update ROM is V30a. It brings the Ice Cream Sandwich sweetness, garnished with the latest LG launcher. You can get it from the LG update tool right away. It seems, though, that the carrier-locked Optimus 2X versions will have to wait a while longer to join the fun.

LG 2X ICS

LG Optimus 2X users must be getting sea sick of all the back and forth LG committed to upgrading its former flagship to Android 4.0 ICS nearly a year ago, then there was a delay and then LG Canada tweeted that the update just won't happen.

LG 2X ICS

There was always the possibility that that LG Canada's statement was meant for Canadian 2X phones only, which seems to be the case. The tweet from LG Korea confirms that the update is in the works for Korean phones at least and is already undergoing testing. However, LG didn't specify when it will be ready for release or which regions will get it.

Official LG Press Release

LG Display Develops World's First Full HD LCD Smartphone Panel

5" Full HD display, creating perfect cloud computing environment

Seoul, Korea (May 28, 2012) - LG Display [NYSE: LPL, KRX: 034220], a leading manufacturer of thin-film transistor liquid crystal display, introduced today a 5" Full HD LCD panel for smartphones - the highest resolution mobile panel to date. Allowing smartphone users to view Full HD content in the same quality as on TVs and monitors, LG Display and its new panel significantly advances the cloud computing experience widely considered the next major internet trend.

LG Display's 5" Full HD LCD panel is a step forward past existing mobile display technology. The LCD panel based on AH-IPS (Advanced High Performance In-Plane Switching) technology features 440ppi and 1920x1080 resolution, providing for the first time Full HDTV quality on a smartphone. With 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio, the panel is also 0.5 inches larger, 2.2 times denser in pixels, and 1.3 times more advanced in ppi than the preceding 4.5" panel at 329ppi and 1280x720.

"As smartphones become increasingly valued for how well they do multimedia and with the rapid growth of LTE enabling faster large file transfers, our new 5" Full HD LCD panel is certain to prove a significant asset to the mobile market," said Sang-Deok Yeo, CTO and Executive Vice President of LG Display. "With the world's highest resolution smartphone display, LG Display continues to remain a step ahead in developing the most innovative in display technology products."

The display solution of choice for smart devices, LG Display's AH-IPS is the technology behind the new Full HD LCD display. With the high density of AH-IPS, the naked eye is unable to distinguish between individual pixels. AH-IPS panels also express the original color of images highly precisely, and feature a wide viewing angle as well as stable display image and rapid response speed when touched. Finally, with its brighter light transmission and lower power consumption, AH-IPS is ideal for use in outdoor settings.

The 5" Full HD LCD panel from LG Display is expected to be released during the second half of this year, and will be on exhibit for the first time at SID 2012 Display Week in Boston starting June 4.

LG Vu

LG Officially launched the Optimus Vu in Korea and we have some photos and specs too.

Due to the 4:3 aspect ratio, the Optimus (90.4mm) Vu is wider than the Galaxy Note (83mm), which will make it even more difficult to handle. It is marginally thinner (8.5mm) than the Note (9.7mm) but that is not going to matter much when you hold it in your hand.

Other than that the Optimus Vu has a dual-core 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8660 processor with Adreno 220 GPU, 32GB internal memory, 8 megapixel rear camera with auto-focus and LED flash, 1.3 megapixel front camera, LTE, HDMI, DLNA, Wi-Fi Direct and T-DMB and a 2,080 mAh battery. The phone will launch with Android 2.3 Gingerbread but will soon be upgraded to Ice Cream Sandwich.

LG Miracle

The LG Miracle Windows Phone 7.5 is by now no secret to anyone who follows tech blogs even from time to time, since it is been leaking like a rusty pipe in the last couple of days, but now we even have another video of its pre-production version, thanks to the guy who bought it from a tester.

Said to feature a 4-inch NOVA display with the obligatory WVGA resolution, 1GHz Snapdragon, NFC-support and 5MP rear camera, it is apparently not meant to wow us with specs, but rather positioning itself for the affordable category.

LG Optimus 3D 2

We just got the first photo of the LG Optimus 3D 2 that will be the Upcoming 3D phone from LG this year and we expect LF to show it on the MWC this Month. The LG Optimus 3D 2 will, reportedly, be using a higher resolution IPS screen than its predecessor. Given that this will be the company next flagship, we are almost certain that it will feature the HD AH-IPS display we know from the LG Optimus LTE.

The Optimus 3D 2 is also said to be considerably slimmer than its predecessor at 9.8mm and at least 20 g lighter. Given that its chubby body was one of the main issues with the original Optimus 3D, this can only be good news for the LG Optimus 3D 2.

LG X3

LG new ICS Android phone, the X3, likely to be shown off at Mobile World Congress later this month. That device and one more are probably the source of a pair of certification filings in the Universal Plug and Play database, a set of standards for wired and wireless networking. The phones in question are the "LG-P880" and the "LG-P700". The former is of the most interest to spec hounds, and it probably the model number for the X3.

There is not a lot of information on either phone available, but a few nuggets can be found. Digging around in the GSM filing for the P880 reveals a resolution of 1280x720p and the P700 has a 640×480 resolution found mostly in second-generation Android phones. Oddly, the P700 is listed as an "ICS SmartPhone", not the P880.'

LG

This week it is time to get serious about quad-cores, LG X3 is the device you see in the image above. This device has the fabulous NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core processor inside, working with a 4.7-inch 1280 x 720 pixel resolution display, and all the while working with a profile that is under 9mm.

This device is set to be running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich right out of the box as all good 2012 smartphones coming with Android should, so says the source leaking this image and the details that come with it. The rear facing and front facing camera sizes come as no surprise at 1.3 megapixels and 8 megapixels, and storage inside the device is said to be 16GB. Inside it also got a 21Mbps HSPA for connectivity along with 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0.

LG

LG has previewed its Cinema Screen LCD HDTV design, ahead its official CES launch, slimming the bezel of its big-screen TVs to a mere 1mm as well as using 3D tech to allow two 2D gamers to play at once. The company is describing the new frames as down "to negligible levels" and talking up the similarity between movie theater screens.

LG Smart

As for the twin gamer appeal, that is LG Dual Play: with two gamers each wearing special glasses, they can see a different full-screen view at the same time, rather than sharing a portion of the screen. It is something we have seen before on Sony PlayStation 3D Display, but likely to be considerably bigger on LG sets.
