Phonebuff recently conducted a drop test comparison to see if the Galaxy S7 Active really is as rugged as the manufacturer makes it out to be. There were five rounds involved in the test and they were the back-drop test, the bottom-drop test, the side-drop test, the face-drop test and a bonus durability round which involved continuous drops by the test team.

The S7\'s glass back gave way to minor damage on the very first round when it developed spiderweb cracks after the back-drop test. The S7 Active on the other hand, developed only a few negligible marks on its rugged back. The second round saw no clear winners but the S7 once again showed signs of injury on the side-drop test, while the Active was completely protected by its rubber casing. The S7 got completely destroyed in the face-drop test as its display shattered and cracked painfully after the drop. The Active version, confirmed Samsung\'s claim of the device sporting a shatter-proof display (from 5-feet max) by not showing even a scratch, post the face-drop. The team gave up when the S7 Active remained \"active\" after dropping it about 50-times from a considerable height during the bonus round. In fact, it could still make calls without any issues even after such a shocking ordeal!

The Tougher cousin of the S7 proved that you are not going to pay the higher price of $795 for nothing, should you choose the S7 Active. It is exclusive to the US and can only be bought from AT&T. The hard-hitting device is available in Sandy Gold, Titanium Gray and Camo Green color options.

We have good news for our readers in India because Samsung has decided to bring Android Marshmallow to even the entry level Galaxy J5 Original this year. In fact, the 874.17MB update has been rolled out to the J5 even before the J7 Original, which will receive the update soon as well.

Once you download and install the update (preferably via Wi-Fi), the build number on your phone should change to J500FXXU1BPF and the base Android version should now show 6.0.1 Marshmallow. You will need to take a good look at the change log to see all the changes that you will see on your J5, post the upgrade. We think that the "New TouchWiz" should be particularly interesting to experience for the first time. You can also expect features common to the Android M OS to now become a part of your smartphone, like customizable app permissions, better battery life with Doze, Google Now on Tap, etc.

The update will take time to reach every smartphone in the country via OTA, but you can always check for it from Settings > About Device > Software update on your device. Did you expect your J5 to receive the Marshmallow treatment? They did take their sweet time with it, but considering the fact that Samsung isn't really known for providing major updates to its older entry level phones, this is good news indeed.

If you own the international version of the Samsung Galaxy S6 with the model number G920F, then you have probably already received the Android 6.0.1 update, but the question is do you want to try something else? If you know what you are doing and would like to experience Android M on your S6 with a slightly different twist, you can try out the XtreStolite custom ROM.

As per reports, the Android 6.0.1 based firmware is stable and offers an experience that has been "deodexed and debloated." Basically, it's the same stock firmware update from Samsung, but without all the bloatware and Samsung-ish tweaks embedded into it. There's also support for call recording and new quick settings options are included.

Provided that you want to check the XtreStolite ROM out on your S6, just make sure that you have the G920F and not some other version of the smartphone. This is a relatively complicated process for a newbie, so be warned that you may brick your device completely, in addition to removing it from warranty in such a case. As is the scenario with all custom ROM builds, it is advised that you back up your data first with the help of ClockWorkMod or TeamWin Recovery Project. You will also need the help of your PC to complete the procedure. Check out the link below for detailed instructions.

Martin Hajek has just released some beautiful 3D renders of the iPhone 7 in color and we think that it indeed looks very pretty. Of course, these renders are based on the designer's own interpretation of rumors and leaked renders of the next iPhone, but they are probably as close to the real thing as it can get right now.

Hajek had three things to work with and base his conceptualizations on, and they are as follows.

1. The recently leaked renders and schematics that allegedly pertains to the iPhone 7.

2. The rumor that Apple might not be changing much about the iPhone 7 in terms of design, thus sticking to the same basic design elements as seen with the iPhone 6s.

3. The American OEM might be retiring the Space Grey color variant and could be replacing it with a shade of blue.

The results are gorgeous and he even managed to do a photo comparison with the Space Grey iPhone 6s to show us the similarities, as well as the changes that we can expect from Apple this year. We love the shade of blue that he has used for his concept phone and can only hope that Apple will be able to replicate something similar, or even better.

PhoneArena just published a leaked image that was supposedly taken from an upcoming official Samsung teaser and sent to them by one of their anonymous sources. Provided that the leak is bang on, the image reveals two things to us. Firstly, it seems like Samsung will indeed be calling the next Note smartphone, the Galaxy Note 7. Apparently, this will be done in order to avoid any chances of the consumers thinking that it is behind the Galaxy S7 or the upcoming Apple iPhone 7, in terms of technology. Although it isn't written in text, one can see the "7" clearly in the image. The second revelation is quite self-explanatory as the leak contains the text, "WRITE ON THE EDGE OF SOMETHING GREAT." This of course, signifies the dual Edge display that we have been hearing about for a while now.

If this report is proper, then both popular theories about the Note 7 have turned out to be dead on, as per the trend with tech-rumors these days. The release date for the Galaxy Note 7 is expected to be set in the first week of August, but the unveiling will probably happen by the end of July.
