Moto X+1

When we first heard about the Moto 360 smartwatch, Motorola said that it would be released in "late summer", a release window that was echoed during Google I/O. The general thinking has been that the 360 would be released alongside the Moto X+1. Unfortunately, another new rumor is pushing back that release until late September.

According to a source for DroidLife, Verizon is expecting the release of the Moto X+1 on September 25th, which you may notice is not "late summer" at all, but rather "very early fall". Of course, there is always the chance that the 360 would be released beforehand, or that Verizon is getting the X+1 later than other carriers. But, either way, it seems like we're going to have to wait quite a bit before seeing what Motorola's next flagship looks like.

Moto X

Punit Soni, Motorola's VP of Product Management, has confirmed over Google+ that the Motorola Moto X will be getting the latest Android L release.

The Moto X was one of the few devices that was released under Google's brief ownership of Motorola Mobility, but has still been very quick to receive Android updates, as was the case with Android 4.4 KitKat.

The Moto X turned one year old this month, but it's still one of the more stylish droids thanks to its compact 4.7-inch display covered in Gorilla Glass 3. For more on the X, check out our comprehensive review.

Moto G

The Google Play Store version of the Moto G already received an update to Android 4.4.4 KitKat and now the company announced it's time for Verizon users to start getting it too. The OTA update should be seeding now to Verizon Moto G phones starting today.

Motorola confirmed that the Moto G and Moto X are in line to receive an update for the upcoming Android L-release. Presumably, aforementioned update should also launch for the LTE version of the phone, but Verizon doesn't offer that version of the phone.

Moto X Android L update

Motorola smartphones have mostly pure Android and get very timely updates now Moto customer support is claiming that the Moto X and Moto G will definitely be getting the L update. As for the entry-level Moto E the support team has no information yet.

Customer support isn't the most reliable source of information the decisions to update a phone or not are made higher up and only after in-house developers have had a good look and evaluated the possibilities. Considering Android L isn't even final, it may be too early to be talking of definite updates let alone time frames.
