s10-edge

The Galaxy S7 Edge was Samsung's last device to sport an "Edge" moniker because from the Galaxy S8 onwards, both devices in the S-series started to sport curved displays, making the moniker useless. However, if a statement by MobileFun is to be believed, they have heard from a reliable source that one of the devices in Samsung's upcoming S10 series will once again be called Galaxy S10 Edge. As MobileFun has stated that the source is none other than one of Samsung's own supply partners, the information probably has some truth to it. If you are wondering which model will be called the Galaxy S10 Edge, know that it would be the regular Galaxy S10 with a 6.1-inch display, as per the source.

If this rumor turns out to be true, then it is very likely that the Galaxy S10 Lite will have a flat panel, instead of the curved panel on the Galaxy S10 Edge and the Galaxy S10 Plus. The same source also claims that all Galaxy S10 devices will come with screen protectors pre-installed, not unlike what Chinese manufacturers like Vivo or Oppo had been doing for a long time.

samsung-loss-gartner-report-3

According to the Gartner report and multiple other reports that were recently released, Samsung Mobile has had a very disappointing show in Q3, 2018. When we say disappointing, what we really mean is the worst performance by the company's smartphone division in years, if not ever. While Samsung is still the global leader in the market with a 18.9% share, but that position isn't as dominating anymore as it was even just a quarter ago. Take a look at the following stats to understand what we are talking about here.

samsung-loss-gartner-report

There was a drop of 14% in sales for Samsung in this quarter, compared to Q3, 2017. The Korean giant managed to sell only 73.3 million units (18.9%) in Q3, 2018, while they had sold about 85.6 million units (22.3%) in Q3 2017. As you can see, Huawei (13.4%) is the rising star right now, dethroning Apple (11.8%) to take the second position after Samsung. It would be interesting to see if Samsung Mobile decides to do anything that might improve their situation, or if they continue to do what they are already doing, although that would be quite surprising, given the dismal performance.

s10-leaks

There is less than three months left in the Galaxy S10's launch and yet, we already know nearly everything that anyone might want to know about the device. Of course, most of it is based on leaks, rumors and intelligent speculations, but given the high rate of accuracy which the modern rumors and leaks boast of, we would say the following paints a pretty realistic picture of what is to be expected in February.

3 Variants of the Galaxy S10

s10-leaks-1

Similar to what Apple did with the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR earlier in the year, Samsung will likely release three variants of the Galaxy S10 as well, namely the S10, S10 Plus and the S10 Lite (the cheapest of the three).

Release Date

s10-leaks-2

A launch date in late February is expected, or more precisely, in between February 25 - 28, because that's when the Mobile World Congress 2019 will be held next year. Once it has been launched, we can expect the S10 series to go on sale somewhere in mid-March, with preorders likely starting much earlier.

The Cameras

s10-leaks-3

Depending on the model concerned, the number of cameras will differ, so take a look at the following to know what to expect.

·        Galaxy S10 Plus: 2 front sensors + 4 rear sensors

·        Galaxy S10: 2 front sensors + 3 rear sensors

·        Galaxy S10 Lite: Unknown

Although all the exact specifications are unknown, rumors predict that the primary camera will be a 16mp shooter, alongside a 13mp telephoto lens and a 12mp wide angle lens.

Infinity-O Display

s10-leaks-4

A nearly bezel-less design with just a punch hole cut out for the front camera sensors is what the Galaxy S10 will likely sport and that's being hailed as the Infinity-O display. Expect the display sizes to be 5.8", 6.2" and 6.44" but rumors have also suggested that a 5G capable, gigantic Galaxy S10 with 6.6" display might also exist. All panels will be Super AMOLED of course.

Price

s10-leaks-5

At this point, it is anyone's guess really, but even the cheaper Galaxy S10 Lite will probably start somewhere around the $849 mark, while the S10 and S10 Plus will likely start around $999 and $1199.

In-Display Fingerprint Sensor

The technology is quite old by now, but Samsung doesn't have any phone in the market that has the in-display fingerprint scanner yet unfortunately. The Galaxy S10 will change that for sure by being the first Samsung device to sport an invisible, in-display fingerprint scanner. However, the faster, ultrasonic scanners might only be reserved for the S10 and S10 Plus, while the S10 Lite will have to do with a comparatively slower in-display fingerprint scanner.

Others

The 3.5mm headphone jack will be retained thankfully and so will the Bixby button unfortunately! The international variants will invariably sport the 8nm Exynos 9820 chip, while American, Chinese and some other variants will have the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8150 to power them. At least 6GB of RAM is to be expected, with pricier 8GB RAM options also being present. Rumor also has it that the S10 Plus might have a variant with 1TB of internal storage, which is quite believable, give that the Note 9 does have a 512GB variant available already. Samsung's new OneUI will definitely be running on top of Android P on all of the three devices.

Do take a look at the linked videos and images to get an idea of what you can expect, but do keep an open mind because these are after all, still just rumors and speculations, until the device has been released officially.

infinity-o-galaxy-a8s

In case you have not heard about the Infinity-O display before, then let us explain what it is first. Apparently, Samsung is skipping the notch altogether and instead, the Korean giant will release smartphones with just a punch-hole on the display to house the front camera sensor. As you can see in the image, the hole looks similar to an O and that's where the name Infinity-O originated from. While there have been much speculation about which would be the first smartphone to sport it, it looks like we finally have an answer in the Galaxy A8s.

The Galaxy A8s will likely be a mid-range device, touting a 6.4-inch AMOLED panel, Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 SoC (or an Exynos equivalent for international variants), 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage with an expandable micro-SD card slot. The latest reports indicate that Samsung will wait until January, 2019 to launch it.

galaxy-s10

Although Samsung cannot exactly be blamed for copying Apple bluntly like so many other manufacturers do, there is little doubt about the fact that the Korean giant has started copying some of its biggest competitor's marketing strategies in regard to the Galaxy S line-up. In 2018, we saw Samsung clearly making the Galaxy S9 a inferior device to the Galaxy S9+ in the camera department by providing it with just one camera and reserving the dual camera module for the more expensive S9+. In 2019, Samsung would be releasing four variants of the Galaxy S10, similar to what Apple did with the iPhone XS, XS Max and XR this year.

As per reports from reliable sources, the devices can be classified as follows.

·        SM-G973x - The standard S10 (in the same tire as the iPhone XS)

·        SM-G975x - The S10+ (in the same tire as the iPhone XS Max)

·        SM-G970x - A low-end S10 (in the same tire as the iPhone XR)

·        A mythical S10 elite that has not been confirmed by anybody beyond speculation at this point

The rest of the three handsets have already received certifications in China and now the SM-G975x and the SM-G975F has also received their certifications in Russia. As per rumors, the S10+ will sport two front cameras and three rear cameras, a 1440 × 3040, 6.4" display and an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner inside the display.
