The SID or Society for Information Display Award is one of the most prestigious awards in the industry and thanks to their brand new quad-edge flexible OLED display technology, Samsung got it this year. Samsung had earlier won the Display of the Year Award from the SID back in 2013 and 2015 for its Super AMOLED display technology. The award was given to the South Korean company because of their technological prowess and the feature set which they displayed with the quad-edge flexible OLED display.
Although LG still maintains that curved displays are fragile and uncomfortable to hold, the SID award was given largely to Samsung because of the fact that the award winning curved displays are easier and more comfortable to hold than flat panels. Given the popularity and the apparent opinions of the experts, I think LG might need to rethink their decision to avoid curved displays. In other news, some rumors are predicting that the Google Pixel 2 could feature a curved display as well and we all know about the iPhone 8 OLED and its rumoured futuristic design.

It is now official, all iOS devices will be getting Google's latest AI powered voice assistant. It looks like Siri's days of monopoly are finally over for iDevices. No date was confirmed but the news was made official at the I/O earlier. It would have come as a complete surprise, had it not been for an earlier report by Android Police which hinted at the same. According to Android Authority, "it will "likely" combine its voice command features with the chat functions found on the Google Allo version of Assistant." It would be interesting to see how they implement it on the iPhone.
Microsoft Cortana is already available on both the Google Play Store and the App Store, but till date, the Google Assistant had been exclusive to certain Android smartphones only. It looks like the competition is about to get really hot for AI assistants on both platforms sooner than we previously thought. If only Bixby (outside South Korea) had a bit more to bring to the table, things could have been even more interesting.

They already have had the necessary FCC certifications and rumors are predicting that both the smartphones will be made official by Samsung anytime now. While the Galaxy J5 (2017) and Galaxy J7 (2017) will not be phones which will ever enter the US or European markets, they are a huge hit in the emerging markets of India, Pakistan and South Africa. On that note, let's take a look at what Samsung has in store for the fans of the series this year.
The design visually reminds us about the Galaxy A (2017) series. Of course, it will have more modest hardware specifications as compared to the mid-range A-series. If you are wondering what those specifications are, your guess is as good as mine. Nevertheless, let's hope that the 1080p display won't be exclusive to China this year around. Don't expect any AMOLED displays though as those are reserved for Samsung's higher end phones only.
