The Nokia D1C was largely revealed when it first made an appearance onto Geekbench a while ago, and now the smartphone has appeared on AnTuTu. This further confirms that Nokia is coming back to the mobile business, along with revealing that the phone will have a Full High Definition panel. It is always exciting for those that still have a soft corner for the Finnish phone company to get confirmations about Nokia's return. From what we can see here, the D1C is a low-mid range device and definitely not the higher end model that we are still waiting to get a hint of, via leaks. If reports are to be believed, then the company will make its comeback with at least one more smartphone, if not two. We will let you know as soon as more news turns up.

Nokia might have been out of the smartphone business for a few years now, but there are still plenty of us who have a soft spot in our hearts for the once great Finnish ruler of the bygone phone world. We cannot help but feel a tinge of nostalgia and quite a bit of excitement each time a rumor or a leak shows us that Nokia is coming back into the business. However, it is almost certain now that Nokia is indeed coming back with a few Android smartphones and tablets in the last quarter of 2016.

The Nokia branding will be continuing under HMD, which is constituted largely with major ex-Nokia employees. As we have now officially entered the last quarter of the year, a snapshot of the Geekbench test result is showing us the performance of a certain "Nokia D1C." The handset scores decently in all the five trials with its Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 octa-core processor (1.4GHz), Adreno 505 GPU and 3GB of RAM, running on Android Nougat 7.0 apparently. We are sure that there will also be higher-end devices, but for now, the fact that Nokia is making a comeback into the business is quite exciting in itself. Apparently there has been a business arrangement made in between Nokia Technologies, Microsoft, HMD Global and Foxconn that will see Nokia come back into the smartphone business under HMD Global, a fellow Finnish corporation. However, Nokia will enjoy significant control over the handsets manufactured and branded under its name. Nokia will also become a board member within HMD, in addition to setting "mandatory brand requirements and performance provisions." If you are a Nokia fan, we have more good news for you because Arto Nummela will become the head of HMD as a result of this arrangement. Nummela currently holds the position of VP at Microsoft, but hails originally as an executive of Nokia back in the day.

Nokia was the pioneer and at one point, had enjoyed the number one position in the phone business for years at a stretch. Customers used to (many still do) trust the company for quality, innovation, service and durability and it would be interesting to see if this joint venture can bring the same things to consumers with their upcoming Android smartphones. Since HMD Global is basically run by ex-Nokia executives, the chance of that happening seems good right now. Things aren't looking good for Microsoft though as this news once again shows that the mighty software giant is almost on the verge of giving up on their smartphone business.

2016 is the year that has given the hopes to the Nokia fans owing to its return to the smartphone arena. As per the terms of buyout by Microsoft, the Finnish giant's mobile business could not compete with Microsoft and hence didn't manufacture any smartphone under the Nokia brand. That agreement became void on December 31, 2015 and the fans can quite excited by the sheer imagination of what could happen in the future. One probable smartphone for a 2016 release came into limelight in leaked images before a few weeks and now once again different set of pictures of the same device have found their way to the internet.

If there is one sure shot information that can be told about the design of the smartphone, then we'd say that the device is quite boxy. This is not in a negative way, especially taking into account the all-metal body, crossed only by a pair of antenna lines on the back. Other device controllers that can be spotted on the phone are a volume adjuster on the left side and a power button below the device. On the other side, we can see a well isolated cover, most likely a space for the SIM tray and microSD card slot. That can mean IP rating, but let's not go overboard.

It is also quite compelling to see that the newly released pics of the phone seems to be from different unit, as doesn't have prototype marks of the first one. This actually adds to the genuineness of the leak and eventually would mean that the smartphone is essentially one of the three new Nokia smartphones going for a release this year.

Rumors about Nokia coming back to the smartphone market is confirmed. It's True, Nokia will make a strong return to the Market with a line-up of Android smartphones Next year (2016).

Nokia sold its device business to Microsoft a year ago and it signed a non-compete clause preventing the company from producing smartphones under the Nokia brand until December 31, 2015 and feature phones under the Nokia brand for a decade.

Nokia used wisely these non-compete clauses and outed the powerful Nokia N1 tablet early this year. The N1 is designed by Nokia, including its Z Launcher for Android, but the rights for the branding, manufacturing, marketing and distributions were licensed to Foxconn.

The President of Nokia China confirmed Nokia is working on Android powered smartphones, which will be probably manufactured in factories in Sichuan, China and will be launched in 2016. He also sheds some light on company's future the Nokia's R&D center will permanently relocate to Sichuan, China.
