The Galaxy S8 has been an iconic smartphone for Samsung due to multiple reasons and those reasons are not only limited to the design language. The S8 marked Samsung's first foray into flagship territory after the infamous Note 7 disaster and a lot rested on its success. It did turn out to be a success as reports are coming in now to indicate that the S8 might be selling five times faster than the S7! Then there's of course the design language with its huge yet surprisingly manageable 18.5:9 bezel-less display and removal of the Home button to make it possible. However, it has not been all good either.
The Galaxy S8 has been plagued with criticisms for its smallish battery size and weirdly placed fingerprint scanner to begin with and then it was followed up by a series of problems like the red tint issue, the restarting problems and a whole bunch of other small yet disruptive bugs in the software. Even the famed iris scanner turned out to be quite easy to fool and Bixby was half-baked (to say the least) at release.
The good news is that Samsung has eventually taken care of most of those problems and will continue to take care of them with software updates as and if more pop up. The latest of those updates solved an issue with the S8/S8 Plus where the smartphones restarted themselves while playing audio via Bluetooth. While it can be argued that the S8 seems rushed and you would not be wrong to think so given the circumstances, it is also true that any more delay would have surely hurt the sales and it would have been very hard for Samsung to stay on schedule for the upcoming Galaxy Note 8.

The month might almost be over, but it isn't over just yet. So, in a way Samsung is on time with the May security update for the Note 4 and Note Edge. As per the source, the update is only available to European users right now, but it's only a matter of time (which hopefully won't be too long) before the same goes live in all regions. This news concerns only the unlocked versions, so if you have one of these two handsets on a carrier contract, you will have to check with your carrier for details about the SMR.
The Galaxy Note 4 is being upgraded to firmware version N910FXXU1DQE2 and the curved Note Edge will be receiving its update with firmware version N915FYXXS1DQE1. There isn't much to say about the May security update than the fact that it addresses 54 Android vulnerabilities and bugs this month. Samsung has bundled in its own set of 11 fixes with the OTA update as well. Let us know if you see anything new.

The Galaxy S8 is back on the top of our firmware list today, so if you had been waiting to try out a different firmware, here's your chance. Do check the tutorial on how to flash custom ROM with Odin3 before proceeding though.
It took a while for Samsung to start sending Android 7.0 Nougat out to the Galaxy Tab A 10.1 (2016), but now that it's finally rolling out to the tablet from last year, the OEM has decided to also bless it with the latest Android SMR update. Do you own the version with the S-Pen or the standard variant? It doesn't matter really because the same update is making its way towards both the devices simultaneously.
If you own the standard Galaxy Tab A without the S Pen, you should see firmware version T580XXU2BQE4 arrive on your tablet and provided you paid a bit extra to get the S Pen variant, you will be receiving your firmware in version P580KXU1BQE6. All the essential and latest bug fixes from Google will be included in the update, along with some of Samsung's own. We are not sure how much of a performance improvement this will actually bring to your device, given it's only a minor monthly update, but if you experience anything positive or negative, do let us know in the comments.
